2. Guns N' Roses - 'Appetite For Destruction'

Few debut albums in rock history have been as explosive as Appetite For Destruction. Guns N' Roses emerged from the same Sunset Strip scene that produced M?tley Cr?e, Poison and other hair metal bands, but GNR were an entirely different breed of band. Their songs were gritty and menacing, and they portrayed their city as a violent urban jungle populated by pornographers and drug-addicted thugs. Appetite sold millions and turned them into one of the biggest bands of the decade, though within a few years they made virtually every mistake a band can make and completely imploded. Still, they remain immensely proud of the disc. "When I was a kid, there were these be-with-you-forever albums that represented something in your life," Slash told Rolling Stone in 2007. "Whether it was the background music of your childhood or your puberty or whatever ? Dark Side of the Moon or Sticky Fingers or Aerosmith's Rocks or Led Zeppelin IV. And we made one of those records, which is all I could ever have asked for. It gives me goose bumps. That's something no one ever can take away from me."

This was even voted ahead of 'Thriller,' which came in at number 3.  Go GNR!

I like U2 and I agree that The Joshua Tree is/was monumental. Having said that, I really believe AFD is a better album. I also think Thriller (and BAD for that matter) are better than The Joshua Tree.

I'm going to steal a line from Chuck Klosterman here. and although he was referencing Nevermind at the time...I think it still works here:

Joshua Tree may be the more influential album, and it may have more artistic merit and all that... But I know which album everyone and I mean EVERYONE would reach for when it was time to play something that KICKS ASS.

This is a great honour for GN'R, Number 2 is nothing to be sniffed at. I obviously would put it at number 1 without a thought, I really do feel it was more influencial than The Joshua Tree.

I said this before, but GN'R not only influenced people musically, but they also changed people's lives. You had people wearing bandanas, who were so inspired by Axl and the band, that it was kind of religous.

I still think Guns N' Roses are overall more influencial than U2, but we have discussed this before.  :P

How the fuck doyou make it cool because their Irish? Cool that they come from Mars, maybe, cool because they build their instruments from driftwood and sound like nothing ever made by the top makers in their class I'd get, but 'cause their Irish meh!

If we're gonna do this...

1 - Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
2 - Faith No More - The Real Thing
3 - Mother Love Bone - Shine EP
4 - Michael Jackson - Bad
5 - Michael Jackson - Thriller
6 - Metallica - Master Of Puppets
7 - Soundgarden - Louder Than Love
8 - Metallica - Ride The Lightning
9 - The Replacements - Tim
10 - The Cure - Disintegration

But realistically, nobody's ever going to get their personal favourite top ten when it's voted for by so many people. Bearing that in mind, they did pretty well.

It should be number one.

I never cared much for U2, but I guess The Joshua Tree is pretty good...that said, it's nowhere in the same ballpark as Appetite.
