I would imagine since it's Duff's home town, I guess we will have to wait and see.  :)

I don't have the dates in front of me, but think he will still be doing his book tour, so I wouldn't hold my breath for that...

I was estimating they would be in Seattle around Jan or Feb, just kinda judging by the map, however when they added Vancouver, I thought it may be a possiblity they are not far apart, and what do you ya know, my instincts turned out to be right!!  My husband and myself and 14 other friends and family rented suite#5.  We have never done this before, but this isn't just any band, it is GNR at its best, must make the night the best of the best.  Looking forward to this night more than I can say!!  Glad everyone was able to get their ticks today at the presale.  Oh and by the way, while we were reserving the suite, the gent said "rumor has it"  Buckcherry could possibly be opening, and he repeated "rumor" has it, so who knows right?  Sorry this is so late, but Keyarena was also having a presale and it is still on until 10pm tonight the password is KEYARENA, I am hoping this is ok to do if not Jarmo can take care of this and I apologize...

Just bought my plane tickets. Coming all the way from Iceland. Hope to see Jarmo and co again. Hopefully we can meet prior to the show somewhere and listen to songs and drink beer.
Cheers.

Can't think of a better answer lol...  Have you ever been to Seattle? I have certainly not been to Iceland.  I completely get it,  we have traveled once to see them is Lisbon and it was a huge thing for us and I will never forget the experience, long way to go it was...  Jarmo, however has done all of the real traveling, along with a few others on this board.  What you do to see your favorite band lol..

True, it is not like they ever came to Iceland. Therefore I had to travel to few foreign countries to see them.  I have met Jarmo couple of times and hope to see him and others prior this show.
I have never been to Seattle before, really excited, especially since I am staying there two extra days.

If there ever was a "most likely gig for Duff's Loaded to play" it would have to be the Seattle show.
Very cool.
Have fun folks!

There's some cool places to check out in Seattle.  Obviously there's Pike Place Market, Space Needle, EMP Experience Music Project.  Where Gun's is playing the Key Arena actually sits in the middle of the Seattle Center which is pretty cool.  You got the Science Center close by and some places to eat.  Other then that hope you will have fun and enjoy Seattle and the concert.  Did you get General admission tix ?

Your right!!  Amazing they have not, hopefully someday that happens for you guys!!  I am confident Seattle will enjoy having you visit, and wouldn't it be the icing on the cake to see Duff as well.  I had the opportunity to see "Loaded" last winter at a small venue in Seattle, I must say I really enjoyed the show!!  There is a great Art Museum in Seattle that is also very enjoyable.

Last summer I had a member from the board come to visit.  We spent some time in Seattle.  She went Parasailing, we went to the open market and had the most tastey smoked salmon in the world, also while we were there, the gent behing the counter pointed out a spot where Axl hit his head trying to catch a big fish they had randomly tossed his way lol...  We also had a great time at the Art Museum, and ate some great seafood down at the waterfront.  I know I enjoyed it and I am pretty sure she had a good time visiting Seattle, at least I hope so....

When I was in Denmark and Norway last summer we got together at a bar prior to the show, I am talking perhaps 6 hours prior or so, and the bar only played GN?R songs. That day I was surronded by people like me and the best music ever. Is it possible to to something like that in Seattle. Best would be to have it close to the venue.

Would be nice to hang out with people at some bar, get the bar to play GN?R music to get us in the best mood.l
I wish I could recommend a bar but I am not from there so hopefully someone takes the iniative and organizes something for the rest of us.

Like I mentioned previous, gonna be in a suite this time round with 14 other family and friends.  Have an awesome room for the night less than a mile away, with the suite came parking passes and vip entry so no standing in line, and last but not least my best friend and her husband are flying in to share this special moment in time with me.  I thank the good lord above for making this possible, especially in such hard times.  On another note we were told "BuckCherry"!!  And on one more note, who ever is the most familiar with Seattle should establish a place to gather and meet each other, I think it is such a great part of the GNR/HTGTH experience....  Would really love to meet Arnarsi, after all the gent is coming from Iceland...  Regardless hope each and everyone of you enjoys yourselves to the max!!

I have twice been before on a HTGTH get together prior to a show. The first time was in Oslo last year and it was just simply the best day of my life, well except maybe when I became a father each time;) but seriously, we need to find a bar that will play GN?R songs and host us the before the show.
I am not familiar with the area so hopefully someone can take the iniative and set things up or else I will just find it hehe.

See you on Friday.

In case someone wants to meet up me and my buddy will be having some drinks prior to the show. We haven?t fully decided where but if you have any suggestions please put them here. In the meantime, via my google search I found cool places like The Funhouse at 206 5th Avenue North, Ozzie's at 105 West Mercer Street and a traditional irish pub called Ts McHugh?s at 21 Mercer Street.

So, here are some suggestions and if anyone is familiar with any of those bars please comment and we might find us a place to meet.

See you on Friday.

Just confirmed that Loaded is opening in Seattle and Vancouver.  http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/2011/12/its_official_duff_mckagans_loa.php

Duff McKagan's Loaded Is Opening for Guns N' Roses in Seattle (12/16) and Vancouver (12/17)

DUFF MCKAGAN Says He 'Was Reluctant At First' To Open For GUNS N' ROSES - Dec. 15, 2011

After weeks of speculation, it was confirmed a few days ago that ex-GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan's band LOADED will open two shows for the latest version of GUNS on that band's current North American tour. LOADED will warm up for GUNS N' ROSES on December 16 at the Key Arena in Seattle and December 17 at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

In the latest installment of his column, which appears on Reverb at SeattleWeekly.com, McKagan stated about the prospect of opening for his old band, "I was somehow reluctant at first to do this. I love that dude [referring to GUNS N' ROSES lead singer, and sole remaining original member, Axl Rose], but wanted to sort of stay out of the fray, especially after that whirlwind tour of the world we had just done. AND that damn book tour.

"But this fray is only a fray if I let it be. And now I am actually pretty excited to see my old pal. His band is the nicest bunch of fellas, and I will be home after all. The KeyArena will be rocking tomorrow night . . . and I hope you all show up.

"After all, it is just some dudes doing what they know how to do best: connect with the audience, that fan-ship that has honored us with their presence for so damn long. And THAT, my friends . . . is overwhelming."

McKagan made worldwide headlines in October 2010 when he joined GUNS onstage for four songs at a concert in London, England, marking the first time he had set foot on a stage with GUNS N' ROSES in 17 years.

GUNS N' ROSES will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next April in Cleveland, prompting speculation about whether the event could lead to a reunion of the band's original lineup.

McKagan admitted last month in an interview that he had a hard time imaging such a possibility, saying, "I can't. I can't picture it. Your guess is as good as mine. There is no picture."

In his latest SeattleWeekly.com column, McKagan addressed the upcoming induction, writing, "Music to me has never been a competitive sport. We do what we do, and if you connect with an audience and write the songs that feel good to you in the process, that is reward enough. Getting a Grammy or an American Music Award seems a little bit weird in this whole context. I mean, are you BETTER than all those other bands? No. You are just doing YOUR thing, and they theirs. It's not a competition.

"But it became very apparent to me that fans of GN'R felt very motivated for our band to 'get into the Hall.' All of those fans ARE very important to me, and thus getting this Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame nod was a victory for them. And so I am deeply honored and feel very good about this whole deal. Thank you all.

"I spent a lot of time revisiting my past in the book I just wrote. Living in the past, or just revisiting it, is something I hadn't done until I was in the process of writing that book. The process became personally poignant in how much I appreciated and loved most of the characters in my past, especially the guys in that little band from Hollywood that we formed just after I moved there in 1984.

"I've done my best to avoid doing any interviews that pertain to our induction, and maybe this column will serve as all I really need to say for now. I am a grown-up now, and hope that we can achieve some grace and class when that ceremony comes. But in the end, I am only responsible for myself."

except fully arena...last couple shows had a big atendance

I'm worried that there aren't going to be very many people there. As was previously posted, Jay Z and Kanye play in Tacoma (a near by city) tonight as well.

I'm super stoked, though! It'll be my wife's first Guns show. Any decision made on which bar y'all be attending to pre-funk?

Also - What time should I show up if I want to catch Loaded as well as Guns? If it was just me, I'd be in for the long haul, but my wife doesn't usually stay up past 9pm so I'm having her take a nap after work and be bright eyed for the show. Any help is much appreciated.

Not that it really has any bearing on this topic, but I actually think that Guns N' Roses and Jay-Z/Kanye West are pretty similar in that their fanbase is pretty much universal. It's not just rock/hip-hop fans that like them.

Pretty sure tonight's gonna be an amazing show, though.

Agreed as far as "hardcore" fans (for lack of a better term. I'm more thinking of the casual - just trying to see a show on Friday night - kind of guy or gal.
We'd all love it to be a packed house, and it still could be. I'm just saying that with the biggest concert tour currently happening in the US appearing in a neighboring town, on the same night - there may not be as many peeps there.

There's been a lot more interest since Loaded was added to the bill, that's for sure. Don't know if that's going to drastically affect the gate. Doesn't matter, it's still going to be a great show!

Jay-Z/Kanye could effect the sales of the Vancouver show tomorrow night as well.

I would go to that show if GnR wasn't playing the same night. No question. Unfortunately, a lot of people probably fall the other way.

I'm here solo tonight. I'll check back later and see if anyone is meeting up. Just down here for the night, from Canada.

I'll check back later as well. I wouldn't mind meeting a few like minded folks. If I don't hear anything we'll probably go to either Ozzie's, Floyd's or The Skybox (which I have never been to, but it's literally across the street).

Axl Rose, Duff McKagan on same stage again

Twenty-four years after it exploded out of the L.A. club scene with its major-label debut, "Appetite for Destruction," Guns N' Roses is still in the game. The band just learned it will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April and is on a tour that will bring it to Seattle's KeyArena Friday night. And while lead singer Axl Rose, shown here, may be the only original member left (for various, sundry and rock 'n' roll reasons), original bassist and Seattle native Duff McKagan will be there, too. McKagan just agreed to open the show with his own roundhouse punch of a band, Loaded. Who knows what happened, but we'll call it an early Christmas miracle ? and stay for the encore.

Wow. Crazy small venue tonight. Top half is closed off. 70 percent full and Loaded hasn't even taken the stage yet. Feels weird in here compared to the cavernous hockey rinks I saw them in during the 2010 Canadian run.

Notables:

- Tommy Stinson's solo: 'Motivation' off of Village Gorilla Head! Not sure if this is a first or if people just have said it was 'Sonic Reducer'
- both AC/DC covers
- Chinese songs: CD, Shackler's, Better, Sorry, TIL, Madagascar, Street of Dreams
- Duff on YCBM, which got off to an awkward start with Tommy being a little confused
- Start time: 10:29pm - Intro (!!!); My Way - Outro - 1:34am.
- Encore: Madagascar, Better, Patience, PC

Maybe he has rehearsed with the band during the soundcheck. It was not a spontaneous decision like 2010, where Tommy gave him his bass.

Wow what a great show ! would like to thank Jarmo for hooking me and my friend up with After Show passes.  Loaded kicked ass and was a great opener.  Axl and the band were on fire, Axl sounded perfect.  Estranged, Civil War, Better, WTTJ were some of my favorites.  The crowd was pretty lame and none of them hardly paid attention to the Chi Democracy songs.  Once Paradise City was over walked over to the rail and got to shake Jarmo's hand that was pretty cool.  After show chatted with DJ, Frank, Ron.  Talked to DJ about Ashba Swag and Frank brought in a case of bottled water, which was nice of him and I needed it after all that beer.  Here's some pics.

Guns N? Roses, Loaded set KeyArena on fire

It was classic arena rock: Axl Rose and Guns N? Roses ? plus former bandmate Duff McKagan and Loaded ? on stage Friday, Dec. 16, at Seatle?s KeyArena.

Face-melting pyrotechnics, numerous spotlight solos, five video screens and a split-level stage with a ?grille? of LED lights ? all done in a red, white and black color scheme that would have pleased Santa?s wardrobe department.

Seattle fans got a special treat when former G N? R bassist (and Seattle native) McKagan opened the show with his current band, Loaded ? then joined Rose and company later for a raucous version of ?You Could Be Mine.?

The Key was maybe 15 percent full at the official start time of 7:30 p.m., but filled to more than half capacity for the opening set by Loaded. By the time Rose and Guns N? Roses took the stage at 10:30 p.m., the arena was completely packed. G N? R continued playing into the wee hours of the morning, rocking and rolling through a long, loud, lead-footed show.

The boisterous concert opened with the theme to TV?s ?Dexter,? before exploding with a flash pot-enhanced version of ?Chinese Democracy? ? followed by ?Welcome to the Jungle,? ?It?s So Easy? and ?Mr. Brownstone.?

With more than 30 songs in the marathon set, the band charged through its songs like a grizzly bear on fire.

Classic songs peppered the show, among them ?Sweet Child O? Mine? and ?Paradise City.? Rose, wearing jeans, black jacket, black hat, dark glasses and several crosses around his neck, was in great form, commanding the crowd?s attention.

Even at 49, Rose still has plenty of sass and attitude, qualities fans expect from the veteran rocker and only original member of G N? R. He looked fit.

Band members playing solos included guitarists Richard Fortus, Ron ?Bumblefoot? Thal (on ?Pink Panther? theme) and DJ Ashba (?Ballad of Death?); pianist Dizzy Reed (?Baba O?Reilly) and frontman Rose, also on piano (?Goodbye Yellow Brick Road? and other songs). Among the instrumental jams was a powerful take on ?Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2.? And bassist Tommy Stinson was featured on the song ?Motivation.?

There were some other choice cover songs, too, among them Bob Dylan?s ?Knockin? On Heaven?s Door,? AC/DC?s ?Riff Raff? and ?Whole Lotta Rosie?; and Paul McCartney and Wings? James Bond theme, ?Live And Let Die.?

The audience clearly got its money?s worth from the marathon rock ?n? roll show. The current tour is a nice prelude to the band?s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012.

I just wanted to throw my two cents in regarding this show, and "this" band.

It's so easy to call them "The current lineup" but you know what? That's completely unfair and it doesn't do the band justice at all. Some of you may disagree, but I would go so far as saying this current group of musicians is more of a band than any group called Guns n' Roses all the way back to and including the Use Your Illusion tour.

In fairness, this was only my second Guns show ever. I saw them back in '06 in Everett (Seattle) WA. It was great show, and an amazing experience that I will always remember and always cherish. The show this past Friday night at Key Arena surpassed it in Every. Single. Way. I thought the setlist was fantastic. I thought the band was tighter and more cohesive than the '06 version I saw - AND although they seemed to have a good enough time together back then, I'd say it's even more true now. There's something to seeing them live that now matter how great a clip is, or a recording is - it can never, ever touch being there in person.

Speaking of something being different when being there in person - I want to say something about our main man Axl. A few months ago (the day after RIR) I watched a couple of clips and came on HTGTH and started a well meaning thread regarding Axl's voice. I was concerned, but I didn't  think I was being too negative. He didn't sound that good. I wondered aloud if it was the recording, if it was technical problems at the show, or if it even was the fact that Ax is getting a bit older. The thread was deleted - fairly or unfairly. I made a bit of a stink about it - but that's beside the point.

I wanted to say - I don't know whether it was because I was so excited to be there or if it's just the difference between seeing something live and watching a video over the internet BUT Axl sounded absolutely amazing to me. Truly. I remember in the most recent Trunk interview Axl made a comment saying that he "had a good night" singing that night. I wonder if how he would classify this one. Perhaps good. Perhaps great. Hell, to him it could have been average. Regardless, I was truly blown away. I'd go so far to say he may sound even better today than again anytime dating back to the UYI tours. I think he just takes better care of his voice.

- Anyway - all this to say that I was wrong. Totally wrong. His voice is in top form and he is still without a doubt the greatest front man alive today and possibly the greatest ever (to me, he is). If you are like me and having any worries or reservations that GNR live may not live up to your dreams and expectations this time around - go ahead and put those babies to bed. It was a truly special night.

Last tidbit. My wife came with me to the show on Friday. Although she likes guns (new and old material) just fine - it's far from her favorite. She sings along to the ballads and the hits, etc. She is also not big on staying up too late. Her bedtime is about 9:30pm most nights. Needless to say - those two factors had me a bit worried about how she was going to handle the show. I told her she'd have to take a cab if she crapped out, I was just hoping it didn't come to that.

It didn't. Not only did she have a great time, I quote: "I thought seeing Time Square and New York would be the coolest thing that I ever did, and I was wrong." Seeing this show tonight is now the COOLEST thing that I've ever done in my life."

Boom.
