After 21 Years !@ Webster Hall reemerged on May 1, 1980 as The Ritz nightclub, and until its relocation in 1986, it was a leading venue for rock shows in New York City. The roster of Ritz performers included, Madonna, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, Prince, Sting, Guns N? Roses, KISS, among many others. In 1990 the building was purchased by the Ballinger Family from Toronto, and returned the Webster Hall name to the reborn dance club and concert venue which remains today. I think they may have had a bar up there as well. I've been there twice, and the last time was over 5 years ago so I don't remember just how hot it can get, but I've heard it can be stifling when very full. Might be better to stay away from the heavy crowd if possible, at least that's my strategy.
Anyone else here hanging out at Village Pourhouse or elsewhere pre-show? I was at Roseland and I walked in about 11:25 and the band came on around 11:30. Opener plays at 10. It is like they answered the call of the board and changed the setlist and Axl sounded AMAZING. The place was tiny and packed--almost impossible to be any more intimate in NY. Lots of crowd surfing which I found funny! Definitely good energy in there so we really lucked out with the extra long set!!!

Last night was truly incredible though. THAT was a club show. I loved seeing Axl have to literally squeeze between the riser and the wall to get to his booth and I believe him when he said he had a lot of fun last night. I haven't been in that place since the 90's so I really didn't remember how small it was. It really was like having GNR playing in your freakin living room.
Some of Axl's side commentary after he decides what song to do next is really pretty funny if you can hear him. It's really apparent he is in a good place now. I can't even stress this enough. Even when there are minor glitches and whatnot you always see that hint of a smile on his face and it makes me so happy to see that and know he is loving every minute.
