Hey gang, I have a quick question about getting to the show. Is the train running for concert?

 I'm flying down from Halifax Nova Scotia for tomorrow's show and I just read that the train only operates during Patriot games.

I'm looking at the MTBA web site and having no luck.  So I thought somebody here might know  ;)

No train tonight. It doesn't usually run for concerts.

I'm surprised they don't run for concerts, that seems pretty lame...

Yeah I just spoke with the Train line call centre and there is no train.

It's only for the "NFL" so basically it only runs for I'm guessing 8 to 4 times a year.  ::)

I'm guessing I have take the train to Walpole and bus it over.

My parents are going tonight at 70 years old.  Now that is true GNR fan!

Dad went with me.  He's 68.  He was the outlier in our section.

The night before, we saw Bob Dylan, which is his GNR.  Guess who was the outlier in that section?

No worries, all is good.
 I mapped it out and the station is only 4 - 5 miles to the stadium, so I'll cab it.

I was worried that the station was going to be  10 or 20 miles away and cost me a fortune in cab fair. I'm bringing my 5 year old son and my wife  and I really didn't want to drag them around Foxboro.
 
My wife and I got lost once in Detroit when going to see Velvet Revolver.  We got off off at the wrong exit but a nice gentlemen at the gas station gave me directions for a small fee  ;).  The man was nice but the neighbourhood we ended had seen better day days.  I didn't want that to happen again especially with my son in tow.

Anyhoo  all is good now, I can't wait until tomorow.

You might want to rethink this.  Two issues here.  The Stadium is out in the burbs so Taxis are not nearly as prevalent as you might expect.  Second issue is that getting out of the stadium parking lot is a nightmare.  The entire area is one big traffic jam.  Getting a cab ride out of there could be extremely difficult.  I would recommend downloading the uber app and give yourself plenty of extra time to wait for it.
Then, when you leave the stadium after the show, I would walk north on route 1 a half mile or so to the gas station or market on the corner of route 1 and north street and get an uber to pick you up there.  If you get an uber or cab at the stadium you could be in the parking lot for an hour or more with the meter running.  For real.  I posted this here in case others were thinking something similar.  Good luck!

Slash and Duff are at the stadium, apparently I know someone working backstage area...  He offered to send me pics, I'll see if I can post them here.

I think folks who are coming from a ways away and don't know the area think Gillette is in the middle of a big, built up, "urban" type area.

It's not.  It' s basically in the middle of the woods.  There's a bit of build up right around the stadium, but cabs, uber, and other "normal" city infrastructure just isn't there.  Nor, really, is there good traffic handling in the area.

After the show, your best bet is to either jump on a bus (along with a crap ton of other folks), or try to get a bit further away and call or book an uber.  And be prepared to wait a bit.  And realize there are a CRAP ton of other people doing the same thing in an area that is NOT equipped to handle that kind of use of mass transportation.  It's bad (though better, cause of the train) even after NFL games.

Honestly, if you could rent a car for the day, and pay for parking...it might be worth it vs the alternatives.

I've seen a couple people talking about taking the train...dont. It will take a cab a while to get you back to Walpole/Mansfield, and there is no late night service. You will be waiting till 530am.

Edit- I should also add that it can take an hour just to get out of the parking lot. If they play till 11:10 you are not catching an inbound (boston) train.

I can't for the life understand how they can have this concert at gillette but have no train service.

Luckily I was able to cancel my hotel ( one that was a stone throw away from the t train ) and we are now staying at the Red Roof Inn :hihi:.

At least it's only 5 miles from the stadium. I was hoping I wouldn't have to drive or rent a car but what can do. I just literally drove from Edmonton to Halifax ( that's nearly 5000 km or 3100 miles) with 2 kids and a dog so I should be able to handle another 5 miles  :hihi:

It's been an addition to the main set the last two shows not replaced anything. Unless you count the two shows they played both OTGM and MM with Steven. But nothing they're playing regularly has been dropped for it.

I'm pretty sure that they will perform every song from CD until the end of this tour.

I wouldn't be surprised by that if they do.

Dont think so. It never prevented the track to still be included on the CD and other digital releases. Also, they used it without that intro on Rockband 2. They could have played it live without much trouble.

Yep. Not sure if was a mistake or not, but they had it for sale at the stand outside by the main entrance - and I didn't see it anywhere else. Same artist and theme, but just more of the skeleton soldiers. I think there were four or five as opposed to one.

Thanks man, it was indeed better than the other ones. There were some people periscoping, but at least two or three stopped recording after some song.

Quick question: You bring an extra battery charger in with you and do you get any grief for it if you do?

I've got a Galaxy S6 and MIGHT try to do some scoping Saturday. But I know it will chow my battery down quick. I have an external charger that holds like 10 charges that I could hook up to and drain that, but I don't want to deal with hassle at bag check.

I brought my charger to the show in DC and it's about the size of a magic marker, didn't get any grief for it bringing it in!

Mine's a bit bigger. It's about 6 inches by 3 inches (and heavy as fuck).

It wont replace the need for an extra battery charger, but you could try to periscope with the energy saving settings on. Also, dim the brightness level down and close every GPS and data consuming app you don't use.
But I have a feeling you already know those tips. :)

Yeah, I know the saving tips.  But typically about 20 to 30 min of scoping will drop my battery by almost half (35% or so).  The charger I have I can pretty much power the phone for scoping (or PokemonGo-ing) for 6 to 8 hours. ;)

Just got the kids out the door to summer camp etc... I am exhausted, but what a night last night.

Lenny was great, he even made a quick comment before Always on the Run saying I wrote this with a high school friend of mine. While Lenny was onstage I got to meet Jarmo and hang with him for a couple of minutes (great guy). Then settled into the first row of the 100 section just left of the stage (not my actual seats), but the owners never came so I upgraded myself a touch. It was a pretty cool seat because it had a great view of the back stage area. All night I saw people like Del, Opie, Caram, Kat, and Jarmo bouncing around the stage and pit.

I had on my Nightrain shirt, and right away a girl in one of those limited tour jackets (she was very easy on the eyes BTW) came over thanking me for being part of the fan club and handed me a Duff pick.

The show itself was flawless, I had friends that were out at the back of the floor in the 100's and they said Axl was very muffled sounding and hard to hear, but from where I was (not sure if I had the benefit of the stage monitors and the speaker towers at mid field pointing back at the stage) he sounded amazing. Slash sounded as good as I've ever heard him. The rest of the band was amazing too... I will say Mellisa really stands out more vocally in person than on any bootleg I've heard so far.

I'm dealing with a medical issue with my oldest daughter so I'm not sure if I can go tonight, but I'm going to try like hell to make it work. I've only been home for 7 hours and still can;t hear anything out of my left ear, but I will say now that it is by far the best show I have ever seen

That was a good review in the Boston Globe.  This tour seems to have had a really good reception.  Can't wait for the circus to roll into town this side of the pond.

A friend I went with took and I put it in my pocket. They didn't care that I had it. It's prob 6 by 3 like u said. But I never used it cuz was able to periscope  only the last 46 mins. Plus I went in with 100%..

They were pretty lax (all things considered) entering Gillette. They just made you take out your cell phone and walk though a metal detector, if you didn't have a bag or set it off there was no pat down that I saw. My friend brought a mid size micro usb rapid charger and they didn't bat an eye.

When Guns N Roses played this last night for  only the third time with original members Slash and Duff McKagan, I was trying to figure out if Axl Rose was projecting it towards them or us.  And by us I mean the bitchy skeptics who over the past 20 years have been pining for Axl to get over himself and get the band back together.  The doubtful masses who suffered through the "Scabs N Roses" version of the band going on three hours late if at all.  The fans who were continually fed a steady stream of "never", "No comment", and "not in this lifetime".

When I heard that Slash and Axl had made nice and were being coaxed out of their hole, ever so delicately, like Punxsutawney Phil on February 2, I took it in with a grain of salt.  The mix of ego and animosity, to me, would make that train derail once somebody looked at someone the wrong way.  But much like the Trump campaign, at first I laughed, then I wondered, and then the overriding emotion was disbelief.  Especially after Axl taking on the impossible gig of filling in for Brian Johnson in ACDC and kicking ass.  It seemed to only make him stronger.

It never mattered how much we moaned about it.  The guys were going to make it happen when THEY were ready.  After seeing their show at Gillette Stadium last night, they were more than ready.

They were on a f***ing mission!  AND ON TIME!

My biggest doubt was with Axl and his voice.  I was embarrassingly wrong.  From the menacing proclamation of opener "It's So Easy" to the grand pyro filled finale of "Paradise City" Rose's voice easily wrangled the entire spectrum.  His scream during the intro to "Welcome To The Jungle" made the hair on the back of my neck stand up as well as frighten away any wildlife in a 20 mile radius of the area.  He tore up scorchers like "Out Ta Get Me" and "Nightrain" to the vocal gymnastics involved in "Better" and "You Could Be Mine".  Any doubters were laid to waste.

Slash's fingers moved like a tarantula on meth up and down the fretboards of his many guitars.  Feeling out the groove for the right notes which came fast and furious and slow and easy when needed.  His reading of "Speak Softly Love(Love Theme From The Godfather)" was sadly sweet and the segue into "Sweet Child Of Mine" was seamless. 

My GNR rule has always been, "Anything over seven minutes sucks".  But I have to admit,  the epic "November Rain" was incredibly powerful especially with the instrumental second half of Derek And The Domino's "Layla" as an intro and reference point.  There were many acknowledgements to the classics during the show with covers of "The Seeker" by The Who, a touch of "Voodoo Chile" by Jimi Hendrix at the end of "Civil War", the instrumental take on "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd, and the little acoustic jam of "Angie" by the Rolling Stones before going into "Patience". Bassist Duff McKagan also got some spotlight time with his cover of The Damned's "New Rose". 

I was amazed.  It was a phenomenal show.  Their mission was accomplished.  They spent two and a half hours telling bitches like me to shut the f**k up.  I'm sorry Guns N Roses.  I was wrong.  I am very happy to admit that.

Some cool things:

The hired guns can wail (in 99 percent of the bands on earth, Richard Fortus would be the lead guitarist). But Slash is sublime.

This band is in fighting shape. It?s time to put them in a room, give them a month -- no more! -- and force them to make a record.

Really seems like every town has gotten a great show.  Guys really bring it every night.

Axl, Slash, Duff and even Fortus are all seasoned pros at this point, seemingly at the height of their powers on this tour.  It's such an incredible joy to witness, and to say that I caught them twice on this tour. They may continue touring for years after this, and maybe even shock us by collaborating on new music, but this initial reunion tour will always be one for the books.

My show will be almost impossible to top.

But I'm damn sure buying a ticket if there's a next time.  And I bet I have more takers on who else is in.

My buddy who went with me and I are both longtime die-hard GNR fans.  A GNR reunion was always at the top of our concert bucket list, but was always followed by "Yeah, but that'll never happen..." whenever brought up. After the Chicago show, we walked out joking about how we can't go to concerts anymore because we basically just saw what in our minds was the "end all, be all" of concerts.  How do you go and catch, oh say, Aerosmith or Def Leppard after this?  :hihi:

Still in recovery mode after that epic show last night. Can't really add much more to what's already been said. It was awesome seeing Slash and Duff back with the band, it really did add a special feel to the whole experience. I thought they sounded great all night. I LOVED hearing The Seeker, yes that's right. In part because I knew they were up against the curfew when the encore started. I thought we might only get 2 songs, but once I heard them start The Seeker I knew we had another song to go. I just didn't want the night to end.

My only gripe would be, the last time I saw GNR in 2011 I paid $90 for pit tickets and was 10' from the stage. Last night I paid double that and was 250' away from the stage. I understand the reason why obviously, supply and demand. But I enjoyed the previous lineup, so that experience was fantastic and much easier on the wallet. I would've loved to have been in the pit last night but I'm not sure I could've convinced the 5 friends I went with to spend $300 or whatever they are. Not complaining, just laying it out there. Ultimately, my seats were pretty good considering. We were near midfield in the lower section. I bought 2 tickets during the presale and sold those to a friend after we were able to get 6 tickets together during the general sale. Those 2 tickets were on the opposite side of the field, a little closer to the stage. She said the seats were great and absolutely loved the show.

All fans I spoke to had nothing but rave reviews. A couple critical notes from some of my friends who are casual fans. These are there views, and I honestly don't agree with any of them, but I figured I'd share. They thought the lack of interaction onstage between Axl and Slash was telling. They probably had those thoughts heading into the show, so since they didn't hug or high five each other, they still sensed some friction. I told them that they have had their warm moments at previous shows, so I wouldn't read anything into that. The CD songs were not as well received, though they did get a good reception, just not as good as the classics. But that's to be expected. They did like the jams like Layla, Wish You Were Here, and The Godfather Theme. Coma got a thumbs down from one of my friends. Too long for him. I get that, but it was a highlight for me and most fans. Lastly, a few of them commented that they felt Axl's voice got weaker as the night went on. I didn't notice this. I thought he was very strong throughout. I'm a little biased though, so I'm not sure if anyone else noticed that last night or at other shows. One more thing I forgot to add. They felt the pacing of some of the songs were sped up. Now this I do agree with it, and I know it's been a big topic of conversation as to who/how/why. I think it's planned. I know some people like to blame Frank, but I honestly feel that's the pace they want to play the songs, not that Frank is mistakenly speeding up the pace and screwing everyone up. Last night, they felt Paradise City especially was sped up. I didn't notice it, but it's quite possible that they were up against the curfew so they tried to get through it as quick as possible.

All in all, it was an awesome night! I had to keep telling myself that it wasn't a dream. It's just amazing too see where the band has come over the last few years. Go see them. It's well worth the price of admission, if you can swing it.

Just a suggestion:  You might want to use the charging wire that came with your phone to tether to the external battery charger.  They're usually between 3 to 4 feet long so there won't be a need to actually hold the charger.  Another suggestion is to wear a belt so you can secure the charger between the belt and the outside of your jeans/pants.  I would NOT suggest placing the charger in your pocket while in use in case it gets very warm/hot.  We don't want our pilferk to get burned!!!  :)

They were right up against it! When Axl walked up to the front of the stage just before Nightrain, I looked at my watch and it was like 11:05. When the final fireworks blew it was 11:21 by my watch... so even if my watch was a little fast, they cut it pretty close (and Axl made a comment about the time near the end).

Slash and Duff just make everything better...  I wish Axl hadn't rolled up in his car at the last minute and walk right to the stage... But he nailed it...  Great show...  I'm still recovering and I didn't even have much to drink, 2 beers?

At that point of the show I was about 100% deaf in my left ear, so he really could have said anything at that point :)...

I think there was concern because Axl was late and that was his response...  The state police didn't even have time to search his car (they did while he was on stage)...  The band was all standing to the right waiting, Axl came in, they mic'd him up really quick and he went right out.  He didn't have time to even talk to anyone.

I can understand a casual fan not being into Coma. That's always been a favorite among the hardcore fans.

Clear case of "Profiling"...the dreaded word associated with racism and bigotry thanks to decades of misuse by our liberal media. You see, Springsteen fans generally tend to be older, calmer, and less likely to cause problems based on his touring history. You can bet your bottom dollar if it was Streisand,  they'd give her till 2am - not that anyone would make it past 6pm...you can also guarrantee that a hip-hop act is not only going to be refused an extension, but will probably have additional restrictions on liquor sales, etc.

For someone who is (probably...oops im profiling) not a fan, if you step back and look at the whole GnR picture, a reasonable person is likely to be cautious when granting anything to "the most dangerous band in the world"

I'm not sure if you're trolling of trying to reinforce my opinion that nobody takes seriously - but your linking of 'profiling' and 'bigotry' are exactly the misuse I was pointing out.  Whatever word you use, stereotyping, assumptions based on past performance...etc...clearly the Foxboro town council is using a formula to determine - in their eyes - the likelihood of problems from a particular group...that would be forecasting...but I intentionally misused the word 'profiling' and pointed same out. 'Profiling' is a technique that allows you to better narrow down a search for a suspect - an overweight 40-50 yr old male with light skin is a 'profile' which helps you eliminate the 19 yr old, the woman, etc from consideration in an investigation. The misused term has been linked to forecasting, or predicting the likelihood of someone committing a crime based on the profile of others who have committed crimes, because the profile is part of that equation, ie: assuming a young white male in an expensive car stopping in a predominantly poor black neighborhood is buying drugs..  Or more appropriately: assuming guns n roses fans will trash your town if the concert runs 20 minutes long.
Yes, in the misused sense, it can be well within the definition of bigotry.
