Title: The yearly GN'R for the Super Bowl Halftime Show....
Post by: johnreed3344 on September 20, 2017, 03:15:17 PM
Well apparently Jay-Z turned down the Super Bowl Halftime Show (thank God) So here we are again with "GNR should do it" I think it would be awesome? After November there is nothing planned right now it would be cool for them to play the show in Feb. then could launch another leg of touring or even a new CD! I don't believe the reports that this is it for Axl and GNR too much good things going on. What you think?

Much deserved but not gonna happen. NFL is more interested in booking artists in the pop music genre the last few years for the halftime show.

If ever, this is the most realistic time. The popularity of the band has been through the roof these past two years.

Not that they really need it at this point, the exposure I mean.

Can't see any advantage to them doing it at all.

Isn't the rule now that the performers need to lip sync the show? Want to say I heard that last year.

Not on my wish list. I just don't think it's a cool event.

I just don't see any point in them doing it. A fifteen minute race through truncated versions of the hit benefits no one. They're above that level.

Will Slash and Duff be compelled to make any GNR commitments after December 31, 2017?

That's the million dollar question isn't it?  Considering Axl's apparent apathy regarding new music  I'm not sure there's going to be much interest once the upcoming tour leg ends.

Also, even though the novelty of seeing Axl belt out AC/DC tunes has largely worn off, Angus buzzing around the shows over the summer likely bodes for...well...more of that in 2018.  :-\

I think they all go their separate ways in 2018.

Not on bad terms, and certainly not without at least some expectation they might do this all again.  But "this" is another tour.  Not new music.

Put another way, whatever Axl, Slash, or Duff do in 2018...my money is on none of the 3 of them doing anything Guns N' Roses related.

Haha! it actually IS a 'million dollar question'  I imagine, given their earnings this year!

Right...making a fuck ton of money becomes less of an incentive when you just made a fuck ton of money.  IMO, there needs to be something else to keep this group together.  The answer is staring us all in the face, and I think it just boils down to whether Axl wants to.

Absolutely. "See you in three years folks".

Even a touring powerhouse like the Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney need to "rebrand" their touring machine in the form of a new album.  No idea why Axl is seemingly so adverse to this idea.

I'm of the mind that the situation regarding new music is likely a tangled web and a complete and utter mess.  Axl likely is emotionally attached to whatever else is "finished" from the Chi Dem eras.  But I'm sure those songs have 9,000 writing credits many of which involve members who aren't on great terms with Axl, i.e Chris Pitman and whoever else.  The only soundbites we have on the subject of new music is Axl saying he played some stuff for Slash & Duff last year and "they like it". Not sure the label would be crazy about putting that stuff out with input from Slash & Duff, nor do I think said members would be all that crazy about doing that.

I'm sure they'd opt for a more "organic" and completely new album once the touring ends this fall.  But boy, if that's the plan then it's the best kept secret since the Manhattan Project. I'm of the mind that, yes, they all go their separate ways in 2018, however unfortunate.

Axl is lazy.  Why do we dance around it?

Now, the kneejerk apologist will tell me how lazy people don't do 3 hour shows.  Yet that is :

- never what I said
- doesn't address the point of this topic
- a desperate attempt to change the subject

When it comes to creating and putting stuff out, Axl Rose is the laziest man in the business.  It was mentioned upthread about the Stones "rebranding" before a tour.  It's true.  But the last few times they did that, it was via literally 2-4 total songs.

And Axl can't be bothered.  Not because of that evil record company.  Not because the universe is against him.  Because he can't be bothered.

Just say what it is.  We are all grown ups here.  Allegedly.

they would be forced to lip sync who in the hell would want this

Truth is the truth hurts, don't you agree?

There really is no other feasible explanation...just excuses that somehow don't affect other bands (IMO).

Looks like Justin Timberlake is doing this, if rumours are to be believed. We're off the hook for another year!

My prediction , which is based on absolutely zero evidence........

Supernbowl not gonna happen.

Axl takes first half of next year off and then tours with ACDC. Slash gets back with Myles. Duff chills for awhile.

Gnr reconvene in 2020 , new greatest hits package with 2 new songs. Tours for 2 years and 2nd leg celebrates 30 yr anniversary of UYI albums.

I'd say that's likely......apart from the 2 new songs.

It's usually acts (if not all) who have a big worldwide tour to sell (Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Coldplay, Madonn etc.). Guns just finished one in February. So chances are  pretty slim to none, as Live Nation always brings the artists that are going to perform.

I saw a comment about lip syncing, but Lady Gaga sang live this year so that's not entirely true.

Oh, how I wish GN'R would hit the studio sooner rather than later..

I'd take later over not at all though.......

If we heard they'd gone into the studio (and let's not kid ourselves- we'd hear if they did, one way or another) that would be enough even!

Of course. I'm just thinking of the future, and the amount of music they potentially could produce.

For sure. I often think about all the years that have been wasted so far. I fear there may be many more to come however.
