Title: Glastonbury show
Post by: The Wight Gunner on June 21, 2023, 11:28:29 AM
It seems that on BBC2 on Saturday Guns n Roses will be shown (live?) but they've allotted a viewers window of 10pm-2am GMT . Looks like there's gonna be a truly great quality transmission of a show.

Yep. It's on the sky planner and TV guides so hopefully it's nailed on. Setlist times say 9.30 to 11.45. So maybe shorter than a usual GnR show. let's hope for a good, quality show.

This is the big one all eyes will be on Axl and the band to see if they still have it and knock it out of the Park ,I wonder will they open with Jungle as the setlist will probably be a lot shorter than usual due to time slots and TV schedule ,will be interesting to see what they play on the night as on this tour they've added some rarer songs they haven't played in a while so it gives them a lot more options for a strong setlist.

Yeah I'm interested by how much BBC will actually show,.hopefully all of it but reckon we won't get the full show. They'll definitely play DOTF as it's on a farm!

Title: Re: Glastonbury show
Post by: AXLRIVERS on June 22, 2023, 02:48:10 AM
Yeah shorter set hopefully means a strong setlist and weaker songs like Absurd bumped. Well, you never know with Ax.

Glastonbury curfew is 12.30, so Guns should be able to do a fair few songs. The whole concert should be live, remember the red button

Any guest spots do we think?

Title: Re: Glastonbury show
Post by: martyngnr on June 23, 2023, 02:35:59 PM
BBC always show the Glastonbury headliners on a delay of between 30-60 minutes.

Last year the Paul McCartney set started on TV an hour after it actually began.

Don't stress, we'll get to see it.

Yeah Glastonbury website has GNR at 9.30 - 11.45 so hopefully they'll show all of it on BBC as it's on the listings as 10-2am.

No idea. Paul Mccartney is dotted about, watching Foos. Maybe he could do Live and Let Die. Dave Grohl, friend of the band. Metallica members are about. Flea is about rhcp. Lots of potentials

I’m excited to see if they treat it as ‘just another show’ - that’s not an insult they have been in top form in this tour. Or if they see this as a special gig. They have already been talked about on BBC News this morning, nothing negative. It’s fair to say the eyes of the UK are on them. I’m sure whatever happens it’s will be awesome and I can’t wait to watch later.

I reckon they're going to pull it off and good sign that BBC showed the whole of Arctic Monkeys set last night. Also cool to see Duff and Slash at the side of the stage for Foo Fighters and Grohl reference Slash.

It's gonna be special. It's Glastonbury.

And, the set time kinda dictates a shorter set than previously on this tour.

For reference, the show in Oslo was just under three hours.

Guns N’ Roses join British indie rockers Arctic Monkeys and a soon-to-be-retired Elton John as the festival’s overall headliners.

The band will begin performing on the Pyramid Stage at 9:30pm on Saturday (24 June). The set is scheduled to last for over two hours, until 11:45pm.

For those unable to attend the festival, the set will be broadcast live on the BBC, and will be available to stream afterwards on BBC iPlayer.

Looks like they won't be live on Iplayer.

i would agree with that, what's on tv is cringy at times, but I suspect the show its self is better than being broadcast. Some angles work better than others and the audience are enjoying it,  on that basis I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that it's better than we are hearing. But would like to hear the views of someone there, watch back on iPlayer and giving their verdict.

his voice is completely shot. Since 2018. We all know that (even if someone denies to death and still in 2023 talks about ‘livestream, yt etc suck live is better…but this works for axl only obviously). Non fans opinions set the truth, they generally don’t like these performances. And ofc it will never be the same, he’s not getting younger and he’s giving his 100%.. as fans if we don’t have anything good to say it’s better to say nothing. It will never change anyway, that’s why my last gnr concert was imola 2017. After 7 years (but I would say 15 years) we are still talking basically about the same old performance and his voice. hard fans will keep saying it’s getting stronger, great performance etc while is the opposite. It’s annoying and it’s not worth it. They gonna tour forever with these standards, like it or not. I personally like the fact that finally he chose to pick lower songs, the show flows better with less weak points.. The rest, again, it is what it is and it won’t change.

General consensus from the people that were there seems to be that he sounded fine, not as strong as before but that being understandable due to being in his 60s, the only actually critical review i've seen of the performance so far was complaining about too many guitar solos

I've seen a few videos. The band is tight, Axl is in a happy place, enjoying himself and the crowd seems to be having a blast.

He's not 32 anymore, the guy's 60 plus. He still moves and sings well.

Not strange at all…issues with Nirvana were surface level issues…probably had no problem with most of the band…Izzy and Axl go way back so any fracture of the relationship probably cuts much deeper on both sides.

I managed to get very near the 2nd rail. The whole show was amazing, everything sounded great and everyone I spoke to thought it was fantastic.
We figured that a lot of lizzo fans would leave after her set and it proved correct and basically, picked a route through the middle to get where we were.
In patience I did the 'bullshit' line and everyone around me gave me bad looks. Then had to explain that it's from a live recording in 1991 or so and the guy said 'we weren't born in 1991'

Jesus Christ, find something else to worry about.

I thought it was a really good show. It was a stellar start, and that carried them through. The crowd looked like they were enjoying it, and there's alot of positive posts on Efestivals from people at the gig.

I had friends there.  They had a blast and thought it was a great show.  They recognized there were some mic/PA issues in the second half, but said the vibe and crowd was great, and the band "played on" (which wasn't something you could have been sure of 25 year ago!) and were having a good time.  And honestly, how the people at the show feel has way more weight to me than what "reviewers" might say.

I think the press reviews are meant to drive clicks so tend toward the sensational and bombastic.

Does Axl sound the same as he did when he was in his late 20s and early 30s? No.  I think expecting that is unrealistic, especially given his vocal style.  I think saying "He doesn't sound like a note perfect AFD era Axl at this stage" is a fair and accurate criticism.

But I think you're overstating if you say he's unlistenable, he sounds absolutely horrible, or that people should avoid shows because of his current singing.  Bullshit.  That's taking the piss just to take the piss, IMHO.  It will certainly get views/clicks...but it's hyperbole.  It's taking a fair assessment and making it an unfair one.

"too many guitar solos"? everyone has their own tastes I suppose.

Quite frankly when I saw them at Spurs last year if Slash's solo was still going on now I wouldn't complain... fucking hook me up to an IV and leave me watching it indefitely ..
Man's a legend.

I could watch (and listen) to that man jam and solo endlessly.  It's just fun to watch where his musicality goes, and how he uses his technique to get there.  And it sounds fucking bonkers.

So unconcerned about what the critics would say, it took them almost a week to notice.   :hihi:

Axl is hanging out even with Dave Grohl, and they were foos  :hihi: in the past.
But Axl can not solve and clear out his situation with Izzy, that is strange.
Any chance you could stop shitting up every thread with chat about Izzy please.

One review with an agenda….look at the videos and the reaction of the crowd…look at reviews of fans there…different view of the show.

The journo is an Arctic Monkeys fan, and they got mixed reviews on Friday night, so GNR were just an easy target

You guys are giving that review more consideration that it deserves.  That was a good GNR show.

The ones with the negative reviews are clearly doing it for clickbait. We can all debate Axl's vocal ranges and abilities at his age but to say the things they were saying in those reviews were way off base and probably have not been following the band since they got back together.

Never got into the critique every second of the show.  People do it.  Guess that's how they have fun but I don't get it.  As the Dead say, we're going to try to get this perfect for you.  They're lying, we know it, they know it and we all go about having a good time anyway.

Just saw the show. I think it was brilliant as the british say.

Perhaps 2023 has the band playing their best shows since atleast 2017.
They really are on a roll.
