Title: T.W.A.T. or There Was A Time
Post by: Prucc on July 17, 2006, 06:39:57 PM
How do you think the song will be titled on the CD?  What do you prefer?  I'm really curious about this.

you really think Axl would risk making a joke out of one of this favorite new songs?

c'mon.. do you really think hes going to abbreviate it. thats ridiculous man. its not like he named it there was a time because it made an acronym for twat.

I don't know about that. Certainly the lyrics/meaning should have been the driving force of the song writing, however, Axl's a writer and an artist...plain and simple. Being able to spot/use subtle nuances and wordplay is all part of being a great lyric writer. 'There Was a Time' might be a perfect phrase for telling the story of the song, but there are plenty of ways to do that. Why choose 'There Was a Time'...maybe BECAUSE it's acronym also serves as an ironic title for a very ironic and twisted jilted 'love song.'

That's my take anyway.? ;)

...and of course, let's not forget the anagram for the man's name, "Axl Rose."   :hihi:
It should be referred to on the album as There Was a Time.  I think that's pretty obvious.  Until we hear Axl calling it TWAT, There Was a Time will do.....that song just kicks ass so hard!  Damn I love that new intro.
...did I mention I agree with Sinshine?  :peace:

yeah sinshine... you could be right. the more i think about it, the more i tend to think you can be right. it can go either way, and i'm sure this question will be answered by axl soon, or eventually.

There Was A Time, the song is too good to be called twat, although i admit when typing i use twat, but if someone asks i say there was a time

TWAT is a horrible name. Seriously.

Doesnt mean it wont be called that finally, but it does suck.

Maybe they should just rename it " Sweet-Ass Lead Guitar Playing" 8)

My vote: There was a time...doubt Axl refers to it as TWAT on CD

T.W.A.T. is the name of the song, right? I don't think it'll change. In the title's abbreviation lies half the song's meaning.

hopefully it appears as There was a time - TWAT sounds puerille

I too vote for There Was A Time, though I believe the double meaning was intentional but will remain subtle

btw, talking about this song, I've been completely hooked to the Madrid live version lately.. I think it sounds amazing live, there's something about Robin's solo live that is more powerful, he plays certain parts slightly different and I love those little changes! though Ron changes his solo a bit too much IMO and I like bucket's solo in the demo more... but it's a great version, what did you think of twat live?

T.W.A.T. (There Was a Time)

or

T.W.A.T.

It's obvious what the initials stand for when you hear the song, so it's not really necessary to put the full title on the packaging.

I haven't heard a Madrid version. I thought the song was only performed once at Hammerstein on the 12th? Could you send me that, would love to hear it. I think it's a very hard song to perform live, such a big song. Try singing it over the instrumental, I guarantee you'll get out of breath! Also I don't think anyone can pull off Buckets solo like the man himself, Robin does his parts perfect though.

There Was A Time is my fav of the new songs and I think that is how it will be named on the album. Didn't Tommy or one of the guys say they just call it TWAT in rehearsals? Like it's a little joke between the band and obv it's easier than saying the full title.

I think it's gonna be a permanent fixture in the CD setlist after the album is released. Probably just Axl holding it back till then. But I'm only guessing, would definitely love to hear this song played live, I'm sure the band will do a top-notch job of it!

I'm hoping it will be There Was A Time.  TWAT is not a nice title for a great song.

Thanks, man...just got around to looking up this thread again.

And I also realized that I didn't really answer the main question here, but I think it will be labeled as T.W.A.T. (There Was a Time).
