Title: Axl and Slash on Rockline in 1994

Credit to Roses of Velvet, something ive never heard before, this could be possibly the last time Axl and Slash appeared on radio together for an interview. it was recorded in early 94 to promote the Spaghetti Incident (which I find weird cause, again, never taught the band promoted those albums)

some titbits to watch for
- Slash says they recorded every show they ever played
- Axl said they'd like to make a documentary movie and put out a soundtrack
- they dont think theyve done an interview together in a long time
- slash has just delivered his latest material to axl
- axl and slash seem extremely down to earth, not wasted or anything, seem very happy
- they have plans to release a live album
- talking about Charles Manson song, and pulling the song, and Axl says he doesnt have plans of pulling the song but a fan will sue them for 1Dollar for every album sold as of the date its pulled
- Axl says hi to 'Jennifer' on the air, when he realises a caller lives in North Carolina
- They actually PLAY 'Look at Your Game Girl' on the air!
- When Axl is talking about the Spaghetti Incident he refers to Izzy quite a lot, and doesnt refer at all to Gilby, which is weird considering at that point Izzy had been gone for 3 years
- Axl wants to put a SOLO album OUT!
- Gilbys album is finished ('Pawnshop Guitars')
- Izzy will not be brought back after Europe shows
- We may work with Brian May on a project upcoming, according to Axl
- Axl says he has never seen two guitarists like Slash and Brian together in his life, says it was magical (could you imagine what would have happened if Brian May replaced Gilby!)
- Slash addresses the UYI sound and said that it isnt a deaprture
- Axl addresses the trilogy and says they were going to make a different video to 'Estranged' if he'd stayed with Steph basically and that the book 'Without You' would be released regarding the story of 'November Rain'
- Regarding the next cd, Axl says compared to the direction of Illusions the direction will be shorter.
- Show was recorded in the first week of 1994
- Axl had the idea of putting Soundgarden and T-Rex together
- they dont know how or why the end of 'Since I Dont Have You' happened
- The video for 'Since I Dont Have You' was filmed after Jan 1994 and Slash is working on a 'Hair of the Dog' project
- Del James wrote a short story called 'Without You' and Axl wrote the song to fit the story called 'Estranged' (but could this be 'This Is Love') and had to change it, and write a whole new thing 'on something ive been living to make, and liked even more' so does this mean that 'This I love' was 'Estranged' (spent 2million dollars before even re-writing began)
- If Slash could change one myth, he wanted to change a myth that they wanted to control the media or people

Its 40mins of quality which EVERY single fan should listen to

Yes it's a great interview and sadly there last. It's ironic how the DJ says "next week we have STP on the show".

People think the band were "falling apart" during the UYI tour but if you were listening to that at the time you would never think there was anythink a matter in the band, they sound so friendly with each other, it's quite sad how things ended up going.

I taught the most disturbing thing about it, or the saddest depending on how you see it and realise what happened up to today, is the fact that Axl must have HATED izzy at that point because he's so happy to see him go...and poor Gilby must have been just no more then a hired hand, the luckiest bastard in the universe, but plucked from obscurity and simply asked to play in some elses shoes. I never realised because I actually met Gilby a few months back and he said to me that Guns N Roses was, for him, 'the greatest job in his life...but he only ever saw it as a job' and now i realise why

its also said the way Axl is talking about sooooo much good stuff, incl the solo album and everything, and none of that materialised. I also wonder what happened if they taped EVERY show on the Use Your Illusion Tour and also if Axl taped some solo material

All in all, it answers one question, whatever comes out with the name Chinese Democracy will be a small tip on the surface of a very large iceberg underneath the water

Also Slash just gave Axl the demo tape after that show. Which turned out to be Snakepit's first album. So it was really after Axl heard the tape that they had an arguement over the direction of the band.

One thing that happened (this was mentioned earlier in the thread) was that Slash gave Axl a tape of songs at this meeting which he considered the next Guns album and Axl passed. Then he did Snakepit with those songs and the relationship eroded quickly from there.

That is so frustrating to hear.  It sounds like these guys just needed more time apart, but as Slash mentioned in his book when he isn't doing anything that is when he'd pick up the needle.  Very sad.  It sounds like they had all kinds of plans that just fell apart.

Attack me if you want, but Axl sort of did do the solo album thing with Chinese Democracy.  That is not meant as a slight to Axl.  I really really wonder what he meant in this interview that he had some 'big top secret' thing for his solo project.  What the hell was he planning?

I loved Axl's comment about them writing for the next album.  Slash talks about how the group of them gets together and writes what they want at that moment and then Axl says "yeah then I throw a wrench in it" and he laughs!  Ugh, its such a travesty that these guys aren't working together anymore.

Yes.that's history right here. Those songs are rejected at first and then became the first snakepit cd.

Great interview...There's another one with Axl at Rockline Nov 1991 where he chats for quite some time.Slash calls in as Saul from Pasadena as a prank right after a rehearsal.Check that out as well,it's on yt.
