That is awesome!!  Are they selling tickets for tonights show at the box office?  If so, anyone in Vegas who was on the fence about attending, might want to try and snag the last few tickets available at face value, before a scalper get's them!

So what do you guys think?  Same setlist as last night. I don't see how it would be any different but you never know.  I would really like the to play TWAT again.  I won't be terribly bothered if they don't mix it up a bit, but it would be really nice.

Tbizzle

PS.  Last night I realized how cool this forum is and probably will be posting hear alot more.

Title: Re: 09/17/06 Update Thread
Post by: EFISH on September 17, 2006, 11:12:06 PM
I think they'll do something different. Most of the people going are the same people that went last night. They should prove to them that they don't do the same setlist. I'm almost positive that they're going to play Chinese Democracy tonight. They might try T.W.A.T again to just as like a nice little surprise for the die-hards

Either way, i won't complain, but the trolls will, it's as if they EXPECT something huge to happen at every show. ::)

Yea, I agree.  What really matters is if the people who paid to be AT the show had a good time.  It's great to get boots and stuff and updates, but if I didn't go to the show, do I really deserve it.  I was at Hammerstein on the 15th and the setlist was basically the same as last night and that show was a blast.  We should appreciate the fact that they're playing.

I jsut want a strong show and the new shit they play should be their best efforts of the night. And mixing up of the new songs they play. Like TWAT and all that shit.

It would have been cool to ignore these boards for awhile if you knew you were going to one of the shows.  How sweet would it have been to see the show and hear Better or IRS for the first time in a live environment?

I prefer to have the studio song (even if its a demo) just so I know it, rather than hearing it for the FIRST time live.. but everyone's a opinion is different I guess

AXL IS DOOMED IN THE STATES .

BTW  Mr Rose    just because you are a poser   doesn't mean the rest of your band was .    And last time i looked  Slash  wasn't white  .

No need for that here tonight.  We wont get a decent recording of these shows immediately.  All of the recorders are there again tonight and wont release it exactly 3.2 minutes after the show, even though some people here require that - as if they have that authority.

Secondly, considering the concentration of the shows in select regions, they've sold well.  With no promotion, its better than most bands do...

I'm getting so tired of this setlist. Come on, Axl. This is the third tour you've basically used the same songs on in the same order. Take away Better and IRS and it's basically 2002's setlist.

Yeah, I think in a weird sort of way NOT playing more of their back catalog really does make it seem like a Greatest Hits band...it's basically Appetite with a couple Illusions and a handful of new songs - sometimes less than a handful!

When you think of how many songs GN'R really have from old albums it's amazing they continue to only play these songs.

Back Off Bitch, You're Crazy [Acoustic], Civil War, Yesterdays, Estranged, Coma, Don't Cry - get with it, Axl!  :hihi:

It's been played consistently early in the sets since May..

I think it's a well-flowing set.  The die hard fans are just growing tired of the redundancy.  But, on the other hand, it's new to quite a few people.  :peace:

It's maybe on of the best sets that GNR can do, but ... like you said, for die hard fans we want something new ...
And Axl should know that playing 2 nights at the same place for a smale audience would be for diehard fans ... so they should try something new that would be well received ...

It'd be nice.  Historically, they won't.  Hammerstein was fairly consistent... a song here and there and, of course, the guest appearances on the 4th night.. but still basically the same setlist.  I think tonight will be consistent with the night before, but maybe a different song (we can only hope).

Good point - but they've got a more restrictive catalog to choose from (1 album).  They're best songs brought forth are by GNR and STP... I only really care for a few of VR's songs.  That's the epitome of redundancy.

GNR does mix it up - not much, but some.  It was extremely consistent from 87-89 and 91-93.... Its just a matter of "now we see it on the internet" regularly and it makes it seem even more redundant.  :peace:

It requests to much of his vocal capassity ...

What is going on with all the setlist? BORING! Boring in the sense that a ?new album is "supposed" to be right around the corner and these guys are more and more starting to look like a cover band. Also whats' with all the damn solos? Dizzy's doing solos now? Solos kill the flow of the show in my opinion. ?Whatever. how does the band sound tonight? anybody know? If they sound tight at least thats' a ?positive.

Now ... :
Trully ... AXL needs to change this setlist ... its totally predictible ...
THE 2 night were just the same ...
Its has no kind of reason to do this shows ...
At least i think that a warm up show would be teasting all the bands capassity for the tour

Anyway, I'm happy that AXL is still doing shows, and his voice is great
The band have always sounded great in 06'

I agree. It's getting really lame. Again though I suppose there's a method to all this. Maybe all this stuff is just a warm up for the "real tour" which starts October 24th. If nothing changes after October 24th than I don't think theres' ever gonna be an album. Like you said though the one positive thing is the band sounds good even if the shows are mostly a tribute to old Gn'R. ::)

Thanks for those who provided the updates. I greatly appreciate your patience and work to rely the messages to us.
I think the guys should of played some new material during the Vegas shows, maybe they are just freshing up and they will throw some new stuff into the cali warmups. I dont really want to bitch about the setlists because I am very happy that we have the honor to have this band playing live again. These warmup shows are going to mostly have the die hard fans in attendance and most of us already know what setlists have been played during the Euro tour, and during the Vegas shows, we are mostly the only ones bitching. However the general people in the US need to know Chinese is really going to be coming out before they support this band, and what better way to do that than mix in a couple more new songs. Keep the staple Guns songs and dish out some new material. This is a reason why the 2002 tour shows did not sell out. Most people need a product to support it. Again I am not bitching I am happy as fuck to have Axl and the guys back in the states playing music. I have supported Guns since I was 8 years old and I dont want them to fail they hold the potential to rule the world again.

We will not hear a previously unheard song before the release of the single/album. I strongly believe this. At the very least, tonight I was hoping to hear Rhiad with the new band and the restored voice or at least an Illusion song.

But it's all good since Axl is out and touring.

Saw '91 in Dallas, '92 or so in Seattle and Vancouver, as well as House of Blues 01.01.01 and Joint 01.01.02.

This show was REALLY good.  Thoughts:

- No Rocket Queen.  They did play "Used to Love Her".

- Axl seems much more comfortable then past Vegas shows.  It's great to see them after the European tour so they are at the top of their game rather than a true warm-up.  Axl had major sound difficutlites and bitched specifically about feedback on the right side.

- I'm pretty sure he mentioned that he asked Izzy to be there but it just didnt' work out so he sent his best wishes.

- I bumped with the crowd on the front right.  Not sure why people show up early so they can stand there and get pissed if you jump around.

- Two of the Hoob guys came down near the end to watch from the crowd.  They were mouthing the AFD lyrics and seemed awed.

- Most amazed that I was the only one in that section who knew lyrics to new songs.  I guess a Sunday night crowd is not going to be die-hards who traveled to be there, just locals.  (I came from LA.)

- Weirdest moment was hanging out near Steven Adler and his small entourage around 10:00 just outside the front doors.  (Guilty of no photos - sorry.)  They talked to some dude wearing a 'Pink Floyd' shirt who was trying to get them backstage.  It's weird to be so close to a legend, yet feel really sympathetic for him.

- Some guys on my side were throwing cups and flipping off Axl.  I don't get it??  Must be locals who squeezed in.  Security eventually caught up with them and dragged them out.  Impressive!! Axl dodged a highly arched cup and kept his cool.

- Chatted up a couple of random people.  Amazed that three of people I spoke to were huge '90's fans yet don't follow any website.  I plugged this HTGTH incessantly.

- For whatever reasons, was disappointed by the '02 Joint performance.  This one rocked so immenesly I was wishing I went the night before.

- Great show.  As Hammerstein and Hammersmith folks know, the small arena is an amazing experience.  I'm blowing off Inland Invastion and San Diego, hoping the pop up here again.

Hoping CD released soon!!
-K

Excuse me but I was in Madrid and TWAT was amazing. The reason why they won't play it is cause it's a long and difficult song for the crowd to get into... It's like playing Estranged back in 1991 before the albums were out.

How many shows have you attented so far in 2006?

For all the others that keep on crying about the same setlist. It's getting boring.

All you do is sit back at home, read the internet, and cry cause they won't change the setlist. You're not at the show.

Everybody who's going to the shows loves them. At least the majority.

I mean, GET REAL. Go to a show, if you don't like it don't go again.

But this constant whinning about the same setlist is annoying.

I've been to 6 shows on this European tour and they were all amazing, even though they played mostly the same songs at every show.

However each show was different.

Madrid: TWAT, CD, and let's not forget the soundcheck we got to listen before the show.
Lisbon: One of the biggest festivals in the world, Tommy broke his bass, amazing show
Athens: Pink Panther theme, Light My Fire and that moon, oh my God, that moon.
Wembley 1: Sailing, Izzy with the band and 2 other covers
Acoustic: Well, no need for any comments on this one
Wembley 2: You gotta move by Izzy and Del, Sebastian singing the last song and half of nightrain

I'm getting really pissed off at all of you who sit at your pc, read the updates and all you can say is:

"THIS IS NOT EXCITING, CHANGE THE LIST".

All I can tell you is:

YOU ARE NOT EXCITING, GO TO A FUCKIN SHOW!

Read this guy's post carefully and tell me he didn't get excited.

Get a fuckin ticket and go to a show, then cry all you want. But please stop doing it on the update threads while you're back home...

I think I know why Axl doesn't want to play TWAT ...
Its because in Madrid it was horrible ... and only because of his voice
It requests to much of his vocal capassity ...

Excuse me but I was in Madrid and TWAT was amazing. The reason why they won't play it is cause it's a long and difficult song for the crowd to get into... It's like playing Estranged back in 1991 before the albums were out.

Now ... :
Trully ... AXL needs to change this setlist ... its totally predictible ...
THE 2 night were just the same ...
Its has no kind of reason to do this shows ...
At least i think that a warm up show would be teasting all the bands capassity for the tour

YOU ARE NOT EXCITING, GO TO A FUCKIN SHOW!

exactly. I don't get the whining either. The shows are awesome and every show has it's unique specialties.  : ok:

In my previous post I asked you how many times have you seen GN'R in 2006.

I found the answer in the HTGTH fan survey.

You have not seen them once in 2006, yet you say how bad TWAT sounded in Madrid, and how boring is the setlist.

Check my previous post about the whinning. You're one of the people I'm talking about...

Look people like it or lump it this will basically be the going setlist until the album is announced or released, so get over it a lot of the people going to the show havnt seen GNR live so why not give them the old songs, its not like your not getting any new ones at all is it.

Two of the eight shows i went to only had 1 new song The Blues did you see me bitching and moaning no and i didnt see anyone at them shows moaning either Maybe confussion at Wembley. The only bitching seems to be people in threads that havent even been to a show. Try going to a show you might actually find yourself enjoying it.

Yeah.  I "watched" the East Coast and European shows from HTGTH - and "just watching" got boring and made me cynical.  Being able to stroll up twelve people from the front and hear some the best lyrics in the best rock voice is UNBELIEVABLE.  It's rock-n-roll, not brain-surgery.  Enjoy.

BTW - Forgot to mention a fellow-fan ran into Axl in the Hard Rock workout room about two hours before the show.  Amazing!!

BTW - This American thinks Europe has saved Rock-n-Roll.  Your passion and devotion are amazing.  Thank you!!

I think playing four or five new songs per gig is a pretty good number until the album is out, but they could really up the excitement of these gigs if they mixed up the oldies a bit. It wouldn't kill them to throw a Civil War or Yesterdays in there once in a while. I went to all the Vegas gigs in past years, but held out this time just because I knew it would be the same show.

I just can't understand the moaning about the setlist. Whether it changes or not is not even relevant.

Who are the shows/setlist for? The people at the concert, right? Surely we can agree on that! It's not for people sitting on the internet counting what's played where.

The majority of people who go to the concerts go to one concert and don't give a fuck, or even know what was played at the other concerts. Some people on here are so stuck in their internet world, that they forget the real one.

There was one sour puss next to us though: Fat guy, long pork chops, thick glasses, who paid 150 bucks so he could shout "It's not the same without Slash!". While Dizzy was playing he would scream "You suck, I don't care about you, I came here to see Axl." He screamed the same type of crap at Finck too..........why would anybody pay 150 bucks to scream "Slash" at this new group? I'd make a huge bet that he was a poster on this board, friggin 10-1.

I've never seen such a bunch of unappreciative crybabies in my life then on this board. Most of all are living in 1991, wrapped up in some internet fantasy world where they know what is best for Axl, what he should play, how he should play it. ::) Get a fucking life.

I totally understand the moaning about the setlists. I saw them at Hammerstein this year and while it was a great show in many aspects, it also had a huge deal of predictability.

Ill see their shows when they hit the east coast, however I really hope they start to do something new. The pre Illusion 1991 shows were so often changed it was crazy and they didnt give two shits about "pleasing the fans with hits".

I want to see what this bands capabilities are, if you are sitting on a goldmine of incredible songs, why not play them? Surely they will become the classics we all enjoy from Appetite.

I know they can nail Jungle and the rest of Appetite, and the new tunes sound pretty sweet, but you shouldnt have to play nearly 60shows of the same opening trio of songs. Its inexcusable.

Pretty Tied Up, Right Next Door To Hell, Perfect Crime, Welcome to the Jungle, Nightrain, Its So Easy, You Could be Mine, Out Ta Get Me were all used to open up the Illusions tour.

Give us some fun. ?: ok:

All the new stuff - updated setlists, album, single, video - will come to us in time. Just be patient and for those of you who are whining.......stop being selfish and appreciate the fact that you are seeing such an amazing band and an amazing lead singer in your lifetime and in your youth. Their are A LOT of things that are much more important to be complaining about like a little bitch.....CD will be in our possession in due time...... :peace:

There's no way Adler would be allowed backstage. He's always saying he wants a reunion and has been writing to Axl asking him to do it.
Can you imagine, Axl walks off stage and Adler is there asking about a reunion and trying to get his hands on some drugs.

Here, here. Well said.

If you are one of the ones moaning about the setlist but havent actually seen the band - shut up and go see them.
We are the hardcore here - if you know of GNR and arent necessarily a big fan i.e. a casual fan. You would want to hear all 'the hits'. They are such a huge band with well known songs that many are undropable. You have to play Jungle, SCOM, Nov Rain etc.

Axl aint here to satisfy the few of us borderline obsessives he wants the band to be mainstream popular. We are very lucky to be hearing so many New songs (yes that includes one's played at Rio/Vegas 01) before the album is out.

He aint going to rock up and start playing estranged. Get used to it.

You make a really good, correct point Greg. BUT I wouldn't make it seem too outta the question for Axl to play a song or two for the diehard fans. Many bands that are as popular as GNR play the hits plus a few for the diehard fans. It's not asking a lot from Axl and the band, but GNR will do things how they want and well, how they are used to.

Edit, sorry for making the point more based toward you Greg, but it's more just a general statement toward others. I know people have said the same things I have said, just thought I would say it though, just so it's not all kept in haha.

I re-discovered "madagascar", and "Chinese Democracy" is a strong Rocker. That song is under-rated among the fans i think.

Ok Guys, heres my review. I went to the Rainbow agian at about 5:30, started drinkin, didnt quit until 4am . Anyways, the show started and ended a bit later than Saturday. As you've already seen, same setlist, Used to love her instead of Rocket Queen. I skipped Hoobastank, went in about 10 minutes after they finished. Once Jungle started, got to the front pretty much right away. Robin was so wasted :) i got to hug him when he came down in front. During one song he sat down onstage and faced his amps and played for a couple minutes. At the end of patience, something happend, Axl ran of stage, I could see him yelling at someone, then right after that, and for the rest of the show, merck was running back and forth in front of the stage, almost like they were looking for someone. I was able to hear Axl a lot more tonight, he was way louder in the mix. At the end of Used to Love her, Axl said soemthing to the effect "We invited Izzy, he's off racing his truck in Mexico, but hes here in spirit" all in all, great show, I'm mad that the weekends over, oh well, I get to see them again in 2 weeks in bakersfield!!

Ok, the one moment that pissed me off.....I REALLY wanted the mic......Oh, and I noticed that Axl uses a different Mic for Paradise that he throws. Anyways, at the very end of Paradise, I moved back to the middle of the floor, where I saw the mic go the ngiht before. He throws it, goes rght over my head, I turn around, people are all jumping for iti saw it get kicked, and I jump for it....i was 12 inches away....ya know what happend?  Security was throwing people out of the way, and a security guard got it....that pisses me off...that is something for the fans, i was pissed, but oh well, nothign I can do about it, great fuckin show!!

What's wrong with the setlist?? I'm sure new songs will be added to the set when the album comes out.  I went to the concert with someone that has never seen GNR live.  The setlist they have been playing is perfect for new and old fans.  Oh and the band sounded awesome on Saturday and I don't see any reason why they wouldn't sound amazing Sunday.

The solos were fine and not too long.  Dizzy's solo actually kicked ass.  Although Slash's solos kicked ass, the old GNR had a lot more solos (bagged on as being boring in the day).  Maybe you miss the 15-minute Matt Sorum drum solo.

Do you guys that bitch at the setlist really believe that playing 10 CD songs, 4 or 5 which have not been heard, would be better for GNR??  The setlist now satisifies a greater range of GNR fans and not just fans like us who know every setlist since NY.  If you want to keep moaning about the same thing every concert, why not just wait for those special accoustic 5am shows.  But then again, you will still be disappointed that the setlist doesn't live up to YOUR expectations.

Title: Re: 09/17/06 Update Thread
Post by: chris75 on September 18, 2006, 02:36:12 PM
The set list lacks imagination for the ever fathfull followers such as ourselves but the reality is that the majority of the crowd will be experiencing new guns for the first time and also getting reaqauainted with the material after a long abscence. Also the new guys dont want to be burdend with learning more from the vast back catologue of material, the time is coming ever closer when they can display creations that they had a hand in and realy cement there prints on the guns n roses name. Dont get me wrong theres nothing that id love to hear more than civil war , estranged and dont cry, but the reality is it aint gonna happen. I would have major reservations about axl being able to do justice to these songs live even if he did decide to play to them, I am content to listen to the original\ recordings. Anybody who thinks axls voice is stronger than ever is seriously misguided, listen to knocking on heavens door from the freddie tribute in 92, the vocal histrioncs were the most powerfull of the day, there was a richness and textural depth the axl will never regain, the racous delivery that is so integral to several numbers is no longer there. The voice in general though is much better than 2002 and on the new songs especially better axl delivery is fantastic. The new material will complement axl 2006 voice and  we will get less and less old songs. This is a new band and one which is continualy evolving, I am excited and eager to hear` new material, great versions of old songs will not be enough to sustain this reincarnation of the guns n roses beast, only a relevant album which connects with a new audience will be suffice. Its not and never has been a case of winning over a disenfranchised fanbase, it,s winning over a fan base that is yet to be yours, that is the challenge. Yearning for old material while understandable is also myopic and counter productive to the goals of the band. Guns have allways given way to much time for solo meanderings and pretentious and pointless mastubatory solos, i am dissapointed that the new band is continuing with this course, its very spinal tap and utterly destroys any momentum that has been gained. The only solo i ever liked what slashs inro to double talkin jive, the godfather theme. By the way does anybody have any photos of pete Poslthewaite from the vegas show.

I bitch about the set beacause to me they show a total lack of progress and forward motion by this band. The sets are almost the same as they were in 2002.  I know that the "real tour" starts on October 24th so I'll keep a bit of faith that after that point things are gonna change. I also bitch at the lack of mention regarding CD towards the fans. If these concerts are in fact warm up gigs why not just say that. If Axl were to say that then there woudl be no bitching about the setlists I can gaurentee that.. Well almost no bitching

Well you can't lose what you lacked at conception ppbebe, Although your ignorance is still inexcusable. Im sure that many peoles minds on this forum have no reccolection what so ever pre 95.

Shockingly enough, there are people as well, or better informed than you that still don't agree with you - myself included. I'll spare you the accompanying digression on the mechanics of vocal technique. Also, as much as I could give a toss for post counts, do you really want to set the tone this early in your tenure here that you consider your comprehension of all things GNR superior to the average poster?

edit: not that I'm saying you're average ppebe.  ;)

Adler was there?!?! What a sight I wonder if Axl was aware.

was steven adler really there??

i don?t really believe it, but it would be nice anyways.... especially if he talked to axl...

did jarmo complain about the setlist by the way?  i mean he went to 10 shows (excluding the accoustic one of course - different setlist...)

i don`t think so.... yet people who didn`t even go to one show are whining about the set list....   it just doesn?t make any sense...

+1 It's so refreshing when someone actually makes a logical post.

haha what guides you into your judgement on his singing and on my ignorance? those lovely Boots?
Viva the ignorance!  bless you dude!  You don't seem to know a thing about singing in general. That would be fine if you didn't state your highly subjective opinions as fact.

Now ... :
Trully ... AXL needs to change this setlist ... its totally predictible ...
THE 2 night were just the same ...
Its has no kind of reason to do this shows ...
At least i think that a warm up show would be teasting all the bands capassity for the tour

I Agree with you ... in a show Atmosfear is completly different. I would go to as many shows as I could if they played next to me ... unfortunetly, i'm in Brazil, and i don't have the time neither the money to get right now in America to see them...

But now get my poiunt of view: I'm a fan ... it's natural that i always want more. GNR have one of the most amazing collection of great songs in rock n roll history, and i would love that they explored that... its just a point of view.
If I Said " BORRING " sorry, that was not what i was thinking ... The word is predictible , but EVERY SHOW has a UNIQUE aspect ( AND THAT is maybe why i get em all in the internet - all that i can).

About TWAT> I dunno, you were there ... and i was not. But for being too long ... its only 1 minute more than Better. But if you say so, you're right ... i wasn't there.
Why they don't release the album so?? :( I love this song ...

at the end : Congrats for been in allm those concerts in 06', they have been wonderfull.

I made the mistake of wearing a jersey...but it wasn't too bad by the end. Just at the begining it was pretty warm.

I'm disappointed with this show because this second vegas show is no different than any of the european shows which happened this summer. Because it's the same. The same show. disappointing.

Well, I was at both Vegas shows, I wasn't dissapointed at ALL. I was so fucking happy each night, and I'm going again in 2 weeks in Bakersfield, and even if it is the same setlist, I know I will be VERY happy, cause IM SEEING GUNS LIVE! ?Thats what shows are for!! ?Not for the people who want every single bootleg!!

why should Guns N`Roses play a different show in America, then in Europe? That makes no sence at all!
There is stil ALOT of americans who want too se a show, like the once in Europe.. where they play almost every
song from the legendery Appetite album. That makes perfectly sence... Remember this is still also warm up dates.
and a new album is still not out.. But we now knows it will be released very very soon! So be glad GNR is ?out there
doing things right... Everything points to many months with GNR out rocking.. and im sure we soon will be supriced
again.. its just a matter of time til a whole new era in GNR history...

Wear a tshirt, but depending on where you stay/park, bring a sweatshirt or something. Its been nice the past few days, but could be fucking cold after the show.

About TWAT. It's a long song cause of the long solos and the slow tempo. Not cause it's 1 minute more than better. It's also a bit difficult for fans to relate to a song that's bit slower when they listen to it for the first time.

About the "same setlist". You can't "want more" when you get none, meaning that you haven't been to a concert. It would be better if you at least judged from some bootleg instead of reading the updates on the internet (which would still suck, but at least it's better than reading about it)...
