Probably, he's out hyping their new album. ;)

Well, can't wait for their new album, the 1st was amazing!

what does it means?

I just listened to the interview, and I don't think it means anything.

On DJ -- "He's with Guns N' Roses, went to South America...he's kinda filling in doing that thing right now." (2:57)

I took the "filling in" comment to mean...that's what he is currently doing outside of Sixx: A.M.

LOL@ u guys

filling in is in no way shape or form a positive thing.

Hopefully Nikki is mispeaking like Paul STanley was about the managerial thing with Doc

if DJ is filling in, that means he is doing the tour and is then back to Sixx AM.

that doesn't sound very positive to me.

Dj replaced Robin.

Maybe Nikki wants it to look like Dj's main band still is (Nikki's band) Sixx:A.M., and not GN'R....

And before any of you write any news stories based on "the rumor", that's just my personal guess.

I don't think I actually care too much anymore. What I mean by that is this.

I really loved GN'R... real fucking big old school gunner from back in the day. Loved Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff. But then there was the new version, and against all fucking odds I fucking dug them too. I really love Buckethead, and Tommy and Fortus are cool. Brain was great, and I dig Frank. Far better drummers then Steven or Matt. Frank is just fucking cool.

I dig Ron Thal. He is cool and talented as hell. I was thinking. He is BumbleFoot and is one of Satriani's prodigies whatever. Satriani is currently touring with this dude named ChickenFoot. I assume it is not all coincidence.

Anyway, Robin was cool (I am a NIN fan so...) But then he left and this Ashba dude. I just don't think I care anymore about following who the fuck the new Axe man is or who the fuck will replace him. I will leave that to Axl. Axl doesn't make it a habit to work with subpar musicians.

I am really hoping Bucket will feature on future albums and would love him to make an appearance at a future concert. There is just something so cool about him and Axl. It was a sweet pairing. It was so great that I didn't give a fuck about Slash anymore. That says a lot. Ashba, yea not so much. I think Nicki Six, Motley Crue, Poison... these fuckers suck and I always hated them. I was a GN'R fan and damn proud of it. You want Ashba Nicki? Who the fucck cares, you can have him. Yea he is a good player. He wouldn't be working for Axl if he wasn't. There are apparently a lot of talented guitar players with only a few who have that extra something special. Like Slash and Buckethead.

I am probably in the minority with all this but if Ashba leaves, I just don't care. He is no Buckethead so why should I? There will be someone else, and they will play all the parts just fine I am sure.

Yeah, I think that's right.  Nikki is out promoting the new album, so his focus is on DJ and Sixx: A.M.

DJ and GNR have said they want him to write material for them.... DJ said that GNR was the closest band family he's ever been apart of

Then you get vince neil and nikki sux shooting off their mouths, about something they have no clue...

I too think that this is just Nikki trying to use words to his favour. But I don't like how he talks as if DJ's not part of GN'R and that he's just a fill in. What also makes me think, is that what happens if Sixx Am want to tour within the next year?. I'm certain GN'R will keep touring for quite a while yet, even as long as next summer. What happens if in between that time Nikki wants DJ to commit to Sixx Am, whether it be touring or promoting their album?.

In this case, I'm guessing Axl may ask Robin if he's willing to tour the album. Which would make sense, since Robin is still apart of the GN'R family.

I love DJ, but having another commitment like Sixx Am, worries me slightly. Because sooner or later, DJ might need to invest a substantial amount of time with the band.

This, it's something to do with Nikki... not DJ.  Anyway DJ is in GN'R and no matter who says what "It don't really matter" they will find out for themselves

DJ is a good replacement for Robin but the "fill in"  comment might have more to it.  Sixx AM is what DJ was known for and he might have loyalty to them.  I respect that.  But as history has it, band members in GnR are in and out.  I wouldn't be surprised if he were to leave.  DJ is awesome and I hope he stays and that Sixx is just talking trash.

As the off topic goes... There is a special feeling you get when you see a consistant, stable, lineup.  With a solid lineup, it is like seeing THE band.  With rotating members, it feels like a bunch of stars making Axl shine.  Please forgive me but it is like Slash and his latest album.  A bunch of talent making Slash shine. It is just how I feel, just an opinion.

DJ is gonna get a better paycheck with GN'R touring than SIXX AM, even as a 8 piece compared to a 3 piece.  That makes a difference.  And also, it all depends on how active Guns remain.  If they take an extended break after the current tour than DJ can tour with Sixx AM.  If it came down to touring with Sixx AM or making a new Guns record, I think he'd stay with Guns and record.  Axl gives his band plenty of time to pursue other interests so DJ will probably be able to work both bands for awhile.  No way he quits in the middle of a Guns tour to tour with Nikki.

Nikki will say things to promote his current project, it's not a big deal to me-I kind of soured on Nikki and Motley after they put out what is their 6th or 7th greatest hits album-if I'm not mistaken, though, DJ co-wrote the last Motley album and will probably have songwriting credits on this, so how could he turn down projects like this

IMO it's pretty clear what DJ status with GN'R is. It was posted a long time ago before the tours on the band's official website.

Sixx is only trying to steal some of DJ's and GN's heat to promote their next effort.

I agree with you. I liked Buckethead, I liked Robin and so far I like DJ too (I haven't seen him live yet). Axl seems to pick the right guitar players for his band, so I don't worry about this. Personaly I don't think DJ will leave GnR soon beacause he reallly seems to love being a part of GnR.

About Nikki Sixx:  ::) (attention whore, nothing to worry about)

I also would love to see Buckethead on stage again with the band, even if it was only for a guest apereance. There was indeed this specaial connection/electricity between him and Axl.

Guns have had so much down time in the last few years that they are like the "side project" for the members of the band.
Robin was always more into NIN and im sure DJ will be tempted as well.

The big question is, if he had to choose...  its kind of similar to the whole VR and Duff JA thing.  Or the Robin NIN thing.
Its tough to juggle.

Maybe Nikki wants it to look like Dj's main band still is (Nikki's band) Sixx:A.M., and not GN'R....

And before any of you write any news stories based on "the rumor", that's just my personal guess.

The question is: Is Ashba replacing Robin permanently? or is it just for this tour and then Robin comesback? Honestly i love both, but i do prefer Ashba, so im hoping SIXX AM will be just a side project.
I see Ashba as the new Slash in GNR. And its easy for people to identify with him since he has a lot of charisma and is very nice to the fans!

It seems to be just that, a side project. I think that's how Nikki looks at it too. He said they weren't obligated to tour with the material, but could if they wanted to. It's probably more like if "schedule allows" them to do it.

The difference is VR was/is dead in the water, so the choice was real easy for Duff to join JA.  Same could be said for Robin with NIN.  Although things picked up for GNR soon after he left.  DJ would have no reason to leave GNR right now while they're out touring and Sixx AM is not.  I'm sure the GNR tour will end eventually and he can then focus on Sixx AM.  Motley Crue is playing Ozzfest this summer so it's not like Nikki is completely focused on Sixx AM.  Many guys are in 2 bands these days and they don't necessarily have to choose one over the other.

Why do you need to bring VR into this?  :P

Things aren't similar at all.

Robin joined NIN, and then when GN'R started up again, and even though the NIN tour was over, he didn't re-re-join GN'R.

I guess the Robin fans are taking Nikki's comment as some kind of validation that Robin might be back. I have no idea about that.

All I know is that Dj is in the band, he's touring with them, he's awesome and that's all that matters....

I dont see it that way at all.  Dj REPLACED Robin, as in done deal.  Robin out, DJ in.  Thats how I take it, I dont really see how you can take it any other way.  Look at DJ's website, and the amount of GNR related material on it, doesnt seem to be a "touring" musician to me.

Couldn't have said it better myself.  Ashba is "just a guy" in terms of what he brings to Gn'R.  ...Bucket and Robin (and to a lesser extent Thal) bring intangibles to the band that are hard to replace.  ....Axl would be foolish to re-record Bucket and Robin's parts for a new album imo.

Just the thought of fucking Ashba re recording anything Buckethead had already recorded makes me want to smash my head against a wall. The audacity of that is maddening.

Look. Ashba might be a nice guy. I haven't heard anything to the contrary. But his connection to fucking shitty Nicki Sixx is a big red flag. Did I hear someone defend Ashba and say something like "Well, Ashba was wearing a Top hat before he was in GN'R?" Was fucking DJ (Ugh) Ashba wearing Top hats before Slash did? Its just one of those things guitarists should just stay the fuck away from. Its a look synonymous with Slash. Its been that way awhile. It will always provoke Slash's image whenever he wears is so why not just be original?

The only solace I take in this is that Ashba is not, at all, involved in the greatness that is Chinese Democracy. And it is greatness. Not knowing all the particulars in Axl and Buckethead's relationship, I would love Bucket to step back into the touring fold and for Ashba to go back to Nicki Sixx or Bret Michaels or Vince fucking Neil or Bon Jovi, or whoever the fuck this dude is in bed with. I just don't care.  [goes back to work while listening to Chinese Democracy]

I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion, but could you explain what the intangibles are that Robin brought that D.J. doesn't? As far as stage presense goes, in my eyes he has more than replaced what Robin brought. From a song writing  perspective we haven't seen what DJ is bringing or will bring to GnR, but we have seen what he was able to do with prior projects. We really didn't have a huge body of work from Robin prior to GnR, for the most part he was a touring guitarist (NIN, Cirque, etc...). So are your intangibles based on 'Better'?

I also wouldn't put down Ron's 'intangibles'... Just listening to some of the early demo's (which isn't completely fair) and the finished CD product, Ron to me was the glue that brought some of those tracks together. His work on the title track alone was huge. To me the early demo of that song is littered with way to much dead air and seemed very weak... Ron fattened it up and really made it rock (which was one of his points in that recent interview).

Anyway... The band is who the band is. Whether you are a Slash, Izzy, Gilby, Bucket, Robin, Ron, Richard, DJ, or even a Paul guy... they each put their fingerprint on this band and the current members (possibly future members) will continue to do so. There is no reason to devalue a former or current member, you wouldn't have anything from Welcome to the Jungle to Prostitute and whatever else is comming down the pipe without each of them. It's probably healthier to look at it as none of the former members are coming back... Axl has fileld those spots with the best possible replacements, and if someone else chooses to move on to what they think is a better opportunity, Axl will plug that hole. Just look at that list of guitarists... Styles and personal preferences aside, that list is amazing. There aren't many bands out there who have a better guitar player than anyone on that list, over the last 20+ years some of us have seen the best guitar work rock has to offer. So I say be happy with whats up there because it could be worse... we could be Creed fans...

Well, everyone has their own opinion.  Personally, I always thought that Buckethead looked way out of place onstage with Axl.  And the stupid nun--chucks (sp) thing he did during his solo was ridiculous.  Even after the first VMA performance, I had friends calling me asking who the hell was that on stage - and they didn't mean "who the hell was that - this guy rocks!" It was more like "Axl went from Slash to a guy who is wearing a mask and a bucket on his head.  This is embarrassing."

To me, DJ fits in pretty well, both musically and with the image of the band.

You didn't read the press release when he joined?

You didn't see any of the Youtube clips or photos from the current tour?

I mean, I didn't ask him for ID, but it sure as hell looked like that was Dj Ashba on stage with Guns N' Roses....

I think it's obvious that Nikki used words to his advantage here.

Obviously people are getting worked up over the way Nikki treats Ashba's involvment in GN'R. Guns N' Roses is our band and I think it's only natural to get angry over people using spin on their words to get the upper hand, so to speak.

But it's clear DJ is in the band and having an awesome time. So lets treat Nikki's comments exactly how they are, altered slightly to fit his own agenda, nothing more.

Nothing. Someone made a remark about Ashba re-recording Buckethead parts - I thought it was worth pointing out that Ron would be doing that, if anyone. You asked why people are talking about musicians who aren't in the band. I responded, perhaps not clearly enough, that people are concerned about Ashba's status in the band because of Nikki Sixx's recent remarks. As far as I can tell, all of that has an immmediate relation to the current status of Guns n Roses. Hope this helps.  :)

I guess from what i gather is, people are just worried, that once the GNR tour ends, DJ will go back to Sixx AM and won't continue with GNR.

So yeah, DJ is in GNR right now.. but is it just for a touring commitment or is it permanent? I sure hope it is permanent cause he fits GNR perfectly and brings a chemistry and awesomeness to this lineup that makes it even more amazing than it was.

[goes back to work while listening to Chinese Democracy]

well DJ is a friend of Slash's and I think its awesome how he throws a little tribute to Slash with his tophat, guitar style and hell down to running through the crowd during PC which is a Slash trademark. I think he perfectly bridges the old fan with the new fan.

If that's all it takes, here goes:

I know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy in Guns N' Roses. They said DJ is infact in the Band and is very happy.
I also know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a girl who slept with Tommy Lee... and she says Nikki is bitter about losing his guitar player.

I hope that clears it up for everyone who likes to hear it directly from the horses mouth  ;D

This is totally derailing the thread, but since Eddie Van Halen was smoking cigarettes on stage constantly, should I think of him when I see Slash doing the same?  Or when I think of a guitarist playing a Les Paul I think of Jimmy Page......

If the "intangibles" were based on Better then they would cease to be intangible wouldn't they?  There is a certain artistic integrity that I perceive w/ Robin and Bucket that I don't perceive w/ DJ.  Simple as that.  That's just me tho, and I certainly don't expect everyone to agree with me.

If DJ "does it" for you then, great!  He just doesn't "do it" for me.

Its amazing to me what the release of Chinese Democracy has done. It solidified this new version of Guns N' Roses. Everyone involved in it gets my full respect. Ashba has done nothing... NOTHING that has proved he belongs on the stage with the artists instrumental in creating Chinese Democracy. If any of you talk shit about one of the artists involved in Chinese Democracy, just know that there is a fan out there that wants to beat the shit out of you.

Bucket was absolutely essential on this album. You can hear his abilities right there on these masterful tracks.

And to the dude trying to educate me on who replaced who... go fuck yourself. You are a Johnny come lately. Bucket could step in easily and play everything he did and everything Robin played better than even Robin could... and I dig Robin.

Axl in my opinion got real lucky with Ron. He is great. And his contributions to CD are fantastic. DJ on the other hand still as to prove he is worth his salt. And that isn't going to change unless I hear him on a follow up CD.

Its a funny thing how DJ's association with Nikki and Motley Crue makes some of you believe he has no integrity.  Its ridiculous when I see Motley Crue fans pissing on Poison and Guns N' Roses fans pissing on Motley, and then you get Metallica fans pissing on Guns N' Roses and Nirvana fans pissing on Metallica., and so on.  I mean, who cares.  Its just music.

Title: Re: Nikki Sixx comments on DJ Ashba's status with GNR
Post by: Buddha_Master on May 04, 2010, 06:38:08 PM
Its just music. What does that mean? Its just movies, so who cares if they hire Gabby Sidibe to play Catwoman in Batman 3.

Music means a lot to me. Guns N' Roses helped me get through some really hard times when I was a teenager. Motley Crue, poison... bands like this gives me douche chills. They always have. If someone doesn't like Axl Rose or Chinese Democracy... fuck them. Yea I am a little protective of this band. I take GN'R personally. They mean a lot to me. A lot of things mean a lot to me. GN'R is a big part of who I am. Its just music.... NO its Guns N ' Fucking Roses. Clearly you and me aren't on the same boat with this.

I guess I am with tippasaurus on this. I am not feeling Ashba. maybe I was in the minority with the new GN'R. I thought it was so fucking cool how crazy they looked and not fitting in with the typical Rock/Metal scene. Robin looked nuts, fucking Buckethead, Alternative Tommy, and motherfucking Axl Rose. No one looked like this band, and that is/was very appealing to me. Some trip the fuck out when things don't look "Normal" but, that was interesting as hell to me. s time goes on the band has become slowly more "Normal looking" and people seem thrilled about it. I admit, Axl looks fucking cool as hell these days, but it no longer looks like a psycho circus, as it did back in the early '00s. I will always miss that. I just think sometimes different is cool, when its the right kind of different which I think that was. Regardless here we are, post Chinese Democracy.

And my love of GN'R is at a really big high point. I could not love this album more. Man, it is weird how much this band keeps changing. Now that I think about it, that is cool too. In time maybe I will grow to like Ashba like many of you seem to. Maybe there will be that "moment" you know? I hope so.

I realize a lot of GNR fans have trouble getting over certain things.  Whether it's how they feel nobody can replace Slash, Bucket, Robin, etc.  And since DJ is the "new kid on the block", he gets his fair share of flak.  I get that.  But I think he's done just about anything and everything he could so far to show his dedication and devotion to the band and the fans.  No offense to Robin, but DJ has had more fan interaction in the last hour than Robin had in 10 years from all I can tell.  I realize that's not everything.  But I think people are way too critical of DJ and fail to see all the kick ass things he brings to the table.

And thanks to DJ for clearing up this "comment".  Again, just like with the Paul Stanley comment.  Let's not believe everything we read about GNR from outside sources, or through the media.

Its a funny thing how DJ's association with Nikki and Motley Crue makes some of you believe he has no integrity.  Its

Well to clarify, the "lack of integrity" that I perceive...  let's just say that DJ is following a muse that I don't derive much enjoyment.  So if I were to re-state my original thought I would have probably said I resonate w/ the muse that Bucket and Robin follow more than DJ's muse.  If that makes any sense...

With that said, certainly a hat tip is deserved w/ regards to the effort DJ puts in when it comes to interacting with the fans.   : ok:

Not much. He's a working musician in a business that's pretty hard to break into - he deserves some respect for that alone. As for comparing him to Finck of Buckethead, that's silly. He's not on any recorded material yet, so it's impossible to say what he might bring to the table in that context. He's definitely more consistent on the Slash stuff than Finck (who I have nothing against) in a live setting.

D.J. ASHBA: I Am Not Just 'Filling In' With GUNS N' ROSES - May 5, 2010

D.J. Ashba (GUNS N' ROSES, SIXX: A.M.) has shot down reports that he is just "filling in" on guitar with GUNS N' ROSES while he is preparing to release the sophomore album from SIXX: A.M.

In an April 2010 interview with Meltdown of Detroit, Michigan's WRIF 101.1 FM radio station, Ashba's SIXX: A.M. bandmate, M?TLEY CR?E bassist Nikki Sixx, stated about D.J.'s involvement with GUNS N' ROSES, "He's with GUNS N ROSES. [He] went to South America [with them]... and he's kinda filling in doing that thing right now until we get the? With SIXX: A.M., it's interesting. We're songwriters and producers and we just? we make this music and we do whatever we wanted to. We don't ever really plan on touring. We did tour with Cr?e Fest. I don't know what we'll do with this one. Maybe we'll do something. But the music's Number One."

Responding the fan speculation regarding his status in GUNS N' ROSES in the wake of Sixx's remarks, Ashba wrote in an online posting, "I can assure everyone that I am not just 'filling in.' I am very excited about the upcoming concerts and my future with GUNS N' ROSES and I'm honored to be a part of such a legendary band. God only knows the destruction we're planning to do. I hope this clears shit up."

Ashba joined GUNS N' ROSES in March 2009 following the departure of Robin Finck. GN'R frontman Axl Rose stated about D.J.'s addition to the group at the time, "D.J.'s a gifted, energetic guitarist that GUNS N' ROSES is proud to have on board!! We're very excited to have the opportunity to work together. GUNS' radar has silently been aware of D.J.'s presence for quite some time. He brings a fresh approach to our particular brand of mayhem expanding the tapestry of GUNS N' ROSES live. Once D.J.'s name was in the hat, the hat disappeared!!"

Blabbermouth picking this up this quick just backs up what GN'R have been saying all along, which is you have to watch what you say and only say it when it's certain.

Bumblefoot was right when he said, everything you say online is a personal statement and that's why you sometimes cannot talk about certain things.

So DJ, thanks alot for coming online now and then to chat, and to dispel rumours.  :)

If at this point we as fans don't realize that much Bullshite is spread in the name of G N'R then we never will. People love to hate these guys, thats why they are my (our) band. Just because its for different reasons than the old days don't matter, its that same identity of doing what you want and feel is right and apologizing to no man, woman, or journalist afterwards.

like i said, people simply pulling words apart. nikki prolly ment nothing by what he said, if anything he probably ment filling in because he's not a founding member. dj is very honest about things, I remember when he parted ways with BC 9 yrs ago or so and all the rumors about that and they were squashed. sometimes I wish our media wasn't as available as it is.

While we're doing the check in, is Beta on for the European tour?  Don't leave us lady.

 I see another thread for this coming up..

As for DJ.. love his playing. Even if this is DJ's first tour with GNR, he seems to feel at home on stage and well..pretty much with everything. Axl made a great pick with this one ! Thanks El Gordo !  :peace: That is not to say that I would think any less of Robin or Buckethead (or any current member of the band) . They both (all) are great players as well and I do appreciate everything they have given to this band. And as for GNR vs. Sixx.AM..forget about it ! DJ is not the first musician who has multiple projects (bands that is) in works simultaniously. That's normal. I see it more as a richness than a threat, because it makes exploring new music for us fans much easier. I had never even heard of Sixx A.M. or DJ before he joined GNR.
