I signed up for Premium and here's why;

t-shirts are $25 (to $40 if you buy them at a concert). You get a special Fan Club shirt I assume you can't get anywhere else. You're getting a bandana and a laminate, plus the ability to get in on tickets early. So if you add those things up, to me, you're not really paying much to access the site.

Is it a one time fee or is it a yearly thing you have to pay? Didn't see anywhere it said that.

I'm going to get the Premium package....the reason why?....because that's how I damn role.  :drool: :drool: :drool:

If there is anything worthwhile to pay 30 bucks, then I'll probably do it. Only, and only if it's a one-time payment. If it has a passage to live concert footage, streams, and even new songs, then I'll buy it in a heartbeat. If it's just for a forum (possibly heavily moderated) and a chat room, then I'll pass.

Besides, we already have countless GN'R forums on the internet, including this one, and their free.

It's kind of useless in a way to charge people to use a forum, I understand you can get the bandana and Fan club t-shirt, but your still paying for a forum.

I hope we hear more about this soon. Like will there be any benefits of being a member except a forum.

Oh yes, it's an option alright.  You don't get access to anything if you are not a paid member... not much choice here if you want to get to see something, have access to pre sales, etc... It was working fine up until now without a paid membership, why change it?  First the vips, now this.  Personnaly, it makes me feel like a bank.  I don't like that.

I do object to band charging for Fan Club access.  Any band that is, not just GNR.  Simply because it creates, how can I say this, a division between fans with money and fans who can't afford.  It makes it all become a money thing.  Why not give everyone the same opportunities? 

About the 80's Fan Club.  Those were pretty different from those of todays, IMHO.  Because of the internet, social medias, etc, more opportunites can be offered to fans and you wouldn't need to have them pay to get them.  That said, I have never paid to be a member of any Fan Clubs and I am certainly not one of those who asked for it. 

Why is it bad.  Well, as far as I am concerned, those bands that had VIP and charge money, I don't go to see them anymore.  Like I said in a previous post, everything was working fine, and I think every fan was on the same level here.  Why want to change that?  GNR has an amazing fan base.  Ok, not all of them, haha... but most of them.  One of the things I totally love about this band is that they are different from other bands.  They don't act the same way.  That just saddens me to see it will change.  It has changed.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be happy about this, we waited a long time for a new web site.  But right now I can't.  I am dissapointed.  Just like I was about the VIPs access.

So when a band play in an arena...they should charge the tickets the same price everywhere?  So everybody has the same chance of being anywhere!....mhhhhh....  So people on the floor pay the same price as the ones in the upper level of the arena.

But I've come to love HTGTH as a forum, so I can't see me posting there regularly as I consider this my home. But what makes me still want to get it, is the fact we get presales, and also I'm guessing there may be a few extra's here and there thoughout the year, whether that be info, footage, pics......so be it. I'm still in.... ;D

This is another of the ''take it or leave it'' things. I'll take it because, if you dont pay, you cant get access to pretty much anything there. I'm sorry for the immense under 18 fanbase without a job and a credit card who will miss EVERYTHING in that site, but i'll take it.

Evita's problem is that she is one of those fans that feels obligated to buy everything.  I've been there before.  You have to take a step back and ask yourself if its worth it for your personally. No one is putting a gun to your head.  I love GN'R and am considering getting the package but leaning towards not right now because the merchanise is not something I need right now. I think for the price of the fan club and considering what they are giving you its really not a bad deal.  But more me personally, probably not going to do it.  And thats ok, it doesn't make me any less of a fan and I can still enjoy GN'R!

It will be great to see more things to come!  I'll consider joining the fanclub, the price is alright. 

I have found with any type of pre-sale ticketing that the tickets tend be the ones that no one wants.  It is cool to see, in recent years, and on the upcoming tour(not a huge fan) to see how Iron Maiden helps fans to get the seats through paperless ticketing.  With paperless ticketing, only those who actually pay initially for the tickets will get into the show so scalping is generally avoided.  Just a thought..

I only half joke.  I think I may be one of the few who still have this card.  It has been in my wallet since I got it. 

Great to see this happen, finally a real website and a official fan zone. Hoping this doesn't stop here, lot's of other cool stuff like this still can be done and I hope it does.

As for the pricing, it's really simple - If you like it pay for it, if not just move on. It's not like $30 is a lot of money, it's not like you're a member of 58 other fan clubs and cannot afford this one. For one thing this entry fee should keep the trolls away and keep the forum real and clean of bullshit.

I pay the dues for the 10 club for Pearl Jam every year.  Sure I get a record in the mail and don't have a record player, but just having access to the tickets is the biggest plus.

With Guns you at least get some more perks besides the tickets.  I won't be joining for about a month since I'm going to 2 shows next week and my surplus cash is spoken for the Chicago and Detroit shows, but I will be signing up here very shortly.

Haha exactly... either you pay or don't.  This is not a requirement to be a fan of the band. 

I will probably hold off on this one though.  A t-shirt for me is not worth it as much as a record like the PJ club.  Plus I'd like to see a sample of the extra content made available in the section aside from the presales. 

The one thing I hope GNR doesn't do is what bands like Maroon 5 and Roger Waters are doing where they sell VIP packages that reserve the first 15-20 rows of seats at their shows.  They have made it so that if you want to be close to the band you must buy a VIP package that includes several extras which you may or may not want but must pay for anyways. 

Let me throw my 2 cents in here...

While I should say I am shocked that people are already bitching and complaining about a fan club, unfortunately I am not surprised.  Some fans are just never fucking happy, and I'll never understand it and I try not to even argue with them about it anymore.

This fan club is a fantastic idea.  There are so many cool things you can do with it.  This fan club already pays for itself if you take into account the merchandise you are getting when you sign up, never mind the fact that you have access to presales which in my opinion are priceless.

I have been a member of the Metallica Fan Club for years now, and its 50- 60 bucks a year and has literally paid for itself several times over.  I was in the front row at Yankee Stadium for the Big 4 show, how did that happen?  The fan club got me access to those seats.  I always have the best seat at every Metallica show because they give you a personalized password that is good for 4 tickets so the scalpers can't steal them all.  I could go on and on about the advantages of a fan club.  If this GNR club is half as good as the Metallica one it will be totally worth the money, and from the looks of it it will be.  GNR already gives you more merch at the sign up than Metallica does, so its off to a great start.

Also fan clubs are always changing, who knows what they will add as time goes on.  This is amazing news!!


In the past few years, GNR has released an amazing album, toured regularly, streamed shows for fans from all over the world to see and now started what looks like a kick ass fan club.  If you still aren't happy I have no idea what to tell you.

Jarmo, why does it offend you personally so much some people are against this? Why can't people have a different opinion without you jumping on every single post you disagree with? It gives off the vibe somewhere inside you think this is cheesy or bad as well so you have to defend extra hard to validate it to the others (as well as yourself).

Due to declining attendance at concerts and GNR having to maintain their lifestyle this club is certainly strictly for some extra cash. They didn't care to do things like the meet and greets (with members who aren't Axl) and paid online forums when concerts were selling out and the band was still hyped. Last ditch effort.

The positives? Some people will gladly pay this for a dollar store bandana, a t shirt, and a low traffic forum to support the band. Good they get to do that. Another positive is maybe all these things they're doing for extra cash is to fund another album?

Wow, good point about how they didn't use to do paid online forums when the band was huge back in 92.  Maybe thats because the world wide web was barely in its infancy then!!!

Disagree/critics is ok... erm...it's hard but ok IF you have some damn good arguements. In most cases the complaints are a bit childish and without any good supporting reason.

Forum is starting to pick up some activity.

A lot of stuff are still to come, like the points thingy. You gain points by adding friends, posting blogs etc.. then you can use those points for either physical or digital things. I'm excited about that one.

A fan club is a great thing the band is doing  FOR us!!!  I can't believe what I'm reading, they aren't forcing you to join the fan club it is a bonus.  Just like they don't force you to buy a t-shirt at a show, it is an OPTION for the fans.  I mean seriously, the cheaper membership comes out to $2.50 a month!!  GNR isn't worth 2 and half bucks a month to some of you?

That's for registering your account. You still have to sign up for a membership to be in the fan club.

For me it really depends on what the extras are.  If GNR are touring my area 1-2 times a year and there is GA available I feel pretty confident that I will be able to get those tickets with or without a fan presale.  If they offer seating only at future shows that might change my mind.  

But aside from presales I want to know what content is offered.  Are we talking exclusive interviews, streaming concerts, perhaps fan chats with band members??  The forum to me is alright, but not enough to make me spend money for a fan club.

I'd love to see these live streaming concerts the band have been doing go up on this fan club service instead of them being a la carte.  I am curious to see what those of you who have signed up say about the extras.  

I'm glad someone brought up Metallica as I was just looking up the terms of the Metallica Club membership yesterday.

Honestly, I wonder how many people who are reacting negatively realize that this is far from abnormal for band's to charge for fan club membership.

As has been mentioned, Pearl Jam and Metallica are just two examples.  And, please, considering how well those two draw all over the world, don't spew that bullshit that GN'R is doing this because concert attendance is down in the US.  If that were the motivation, then PJ and Metallica would have zero incentive to charge for their fan club memberships.

exactly!!  It costs money to run a fan club, the tshirts, bandanas, and technical support who run the site don't just fall out of thin air, they cost money.  Whoever thinks this is a cash grab is insane.

The Pearl Jam and Metallica fan clubs are 2 of the best fan clubs.  I have nothing but great things to say about the Metclub, and my friends have been in the Pearl Jam one since the 90's and also have nothing but great things to say. It is a perk for the diehard fans to have a fan club.  Metallica has played several shows in very small clubs that ONLY fan club members could attend.

I find it amusing how you go on about how everybody should be on the "same level" and make it a perfect world.

Look at yourself first before you make statements like that.

I don't really agree with most of what Jarmo says these days, but this is absolutely true.  This is something that people have been wanting for a long time.  Why would you want to deny people of something that they have been clamoring for?  Obviously there is an appetite for it and if some people want to sign up for it then more power to them. 

If money is the issue then how about you skip 1-2 dinners or lunches out this month and that will likely pay for the subscription.  This isn't exactly a big investment. 

I really don't understand your objections to this, and this is coming from some one who likely isn't even going to sign up for it. 

Every relevant band has a fan club which sometimes gets special access to stuff!  WHAT is the problem?  Sheesh.  

These clubs help to ensure that tix and whatnot actually wind up in the hands of the fans.  Perhaps you would rather pay the extra money to a scalper instead?  They cost money and manpower to operate.  

GNR updates their website frequently, Tweets, and Facebooks as opposed to a few years ago where they did NONE of these things.  This is pure awesomeness!

I saw GNR Last night for the 7th time since 11/17/11. Wouldve been 9 but gave tix away for free cuz I couldnt make it. I've spent over $10,000 on travel/hotels/tickets....whats $50?

I hope this works for them.  The digital community sounds really interesting but I'm not sure what that is.  I'm not buying right now but I would like the opportunity to look through the site before purchasing.  So, I would like the chance to see a preview, say 24 hour access before you have to buy to stay on the site.  I think Ron Jeremy gives you 3 days of free view--lol  I don't know that personally.  :-[

Consumers expect to be compensated for their expense. Personally, I am happy with the launch, but I need more return before I fork over my money. The 'digital community' piques my interest, if there are mp3s and videos. But right now, a tee shirt, a bandana, a laminate, passcodes, and forum access aren't worth $30 + Shipping for me.

I will be patient and let the content build. The website needs to establish consistency (esp after years of inactivity on gnronline) before I input a CC number.

But the thing is, GN'R are providing something for the fans that cannot be done on a mass scale, so they have no choice but to charge a fee. And that is fair enough seeing as members of GN'R are going out of their way, in an organised environment to meet and greet fans. This is something that has to be planned, so if fans want to pay to take advantage of the service, then that's why GN'R is providing it.

Axl's view on this may still be the same, but at the end of the day. If Guns did this for free, then everyone rightfully so, would want to be involved.....which is impossible to achieve. So the only logical way, it can be done fairly and on a minimal scale, is if people have the opportunity to pay for the service if they really want it.

So I don't see anything that's wrong with it to be honest.........if you want it, pay the fee, if you don't....that's fine too.

At least GN'R are going out of their way to make this available to people, who would never have the opportunity to randomly bump into bandmembers usually. Whether that is because they don't go to alot of shows, or they just don't hang around in the right places. This way Guns N' Roses have made it possible for them to live out their ultimate dream, of meeting GN'R in person.......surely that's a good thing.  :)

How is that related to the fan club membership? You're not paying for a meet and greet when you join the fan club.

The things is, you can't win. If you don't offer it, some will wonder why the band isn't more "fan friendly" by doing meet and greets.

If you do, you're being lame for charging for it.

And if you offer it for free, it becomes impossible to manage fast. Unless you select a few for each show, and then "it's not fair!"....

Just got the email about the free show.  It sold me on getting a membership in the fan club.  They are calling it GN'R's "re-emergence".  Too many cheesy references to GN'R lyrics, but aside from that I like the push they're making. Good moves Axl and the Lebeis!

Guns is doing more now than they have probably since the Illusion Tour. The site and everything like the streams are great. Guns is booming... I remember a few months ago when it seemed as if GNR had been done... Dead. Then the U.S. tour and rumors of a new album... WERE BACK!!

I think the only question is, if you don't like your favourite band enough to spend $50 on an annual membership to their fanclub, which most people would spend on a nice evening out... is Guns N' Roses really your favourite band?

They are giving you a free preview of the fan club in the hopes you like it and sign up for the year membership.  A lot of bands do this, usually with the purchase of something, like a new album, DVD or in this case the concert stream.  Its a good business move.

I'm just about to go to bed, but I have the day off work tomorrow so we all know what that means. I can finally sort some of my own things out, and number 1 on my priority is to purchase the premium membership for the best band in the world.  ;D

The same thing happened to me and for some reason I had to reset my password since I already had a free account.  Then after I did that it gave me the prompt to enter the 30 day free trial code and it worked.  Try that.  Hope this helps.

I can tell you why (maybe)

If you have a relatively long (I think over 8 character) password...whenever you go to your profile to make changes, and save them...it truncates your password back to 8 characters.  I ran into it the day I signed up....had to change my email addy after I signed up and couldn't figure out why my PW wouldn't work.

I do like the new band... not as much as the original band, but i do like them... i have liked any line up so far. They all had good moments and good things to watch.

I Just don't like FAN clubs... I like uncensored and unofficial websites instead. When you have a house and a car to pay, it doesn't make sense to buy a membership to use a forum... when you can have the same kind of thing for free... It's called being responsible, and not spending money in things that don't really have any crucial effect in your life. That's all...

And yeah... i think the Old band is much better than the new one in every way... so... sue me...

Just because something is printed and/or published doesn't automatically make it interesting or the truth. Just because somebody says something negative, it's gotta be true but if somebody says something positive, it's just somebody kissing ass. Funny how that works.

I have yet to sign up simply because, to anyone outside the US, shipping is pretty expensive. Because obviously you need to get the merch, sent to you from the United States.

I think that shipping was as high as the membership fee alone, so your paying double in essence. I will eventually sign up, but at the moment obviously I'm getting ready for the shows, and spending money on hotels, flights and tickets etc... So I'm waiting until, I know I'm sorted...

I have also noticed that alot of the people who have signed up thus far, are actually from the US........I think this is one of main factors why.  :-\

This is why I'm not an impulse buyer and wanted to wait and see what the gifts would be for becoming a member. As previously said, the merchandise is nothing new and nothing you cannot purchase from Ebay or other sites. And I've never been a patch enthusiast either.

Maybe they'll correct it and get it right.

So yes, they're using the AFD shirt they were sent by GN'R and in turn, Axl. Hopefully this is fixed as they're hinting in this post.

Axl depends on management to make the right decisions. In some instances, it seems he's had to be more hands on than he should, given lack of proper management and record company support.  But it this case, its just bizarre that those representing him would authorize an AFD shirt.  It looks very unprofessional.  This isn't complication stuff here. 

It's bizarre for sure.  I highly doubt Axl hand picked the items to be included in the package, but whoever did made an odd choice.  I don't own an AFD shirt, so I'll take it.  But that wasn't quite what I expected.  Even if it says something like "fanclub" on the back of the shirt, it's still promoting the classic lineup which is what I thought we were trying to move on from.  Mixed messages being sent it seems.

Yeah, I don't think sending out AFD shirts is the way forward... I would rather get a bootleg looking shirt with just an orange star on TBH. Anything that relates to the new era of GN'R, is what we must be seeing on the merchandise you feel, like those other items in the photo.

The worst part is that this was all advertised as exclusive and you can get all of those item's anywhere.

If that is the case, then it steps over legal boundaries in alot of countries, which is not good.

Oh good!! Thank you for that info. After you posted this, I went to poke around and saw the same response you're talking about. They didn't post any pics, but I guess we'll all know soon enough, seems like all the packages will arrive this week.

Much as I dislike being the bearer of disappointing news, I'm afraid to say that my fan club membership package arrived this morning and the items are exactly as per the photo on the previous page of this thread. I didn't have high expectations to start with but this has plumbed the depths, I mean, seriously, an AFD cross t-shirt?! Perhaps the merchandise contract should have been contracted out to ASHBA Swag, at least we might have received something slightly more interesting.

That's the right way to focus more on the new band  ;D

Don't worry, ground control said they'll be rectifying this situation and are in talks with GnR's management, so im sure they'll compensate those who paid for the premium package.

We will be getting CD shirts...someone dropped the ball here and it has nothing to do with the band.

Allow me to relay a story about GNR and Ground Control that is very relevant here.  First let me say that while I did not attend any of the west coast UCAP shows (sadly), I did attend the NYC UCAP shows and for the most part (in terms of what Ground Control's responsibility was) things went off without a hitch.  True, there was the uncertainty of whether or not you needed hard tickets, but in the end I think everyone was happy.  I also attended the Vegas shows on NYE.  And here we have issues.  Now I'm not sure if some fo the issues there were their fault or not so I won't go into them.  If you're interested in those other issues let me know.  But for now let's talk about the T-shirt that came with that event.  Now in all fairness to GNR and Ground Control, when you purchased the item on the site all it said was that it comes with a GNR shirt.  And in all fairness, I received a GNR shirt for each package I purchased (3 in total - went to both nights, had a guest on one night).  However one would think that at the very LEAST, the shirt we received for these packages would have the Vegas date on them since that was the events we were purchasing!  Not only that, but we were told by Ground Control staff at the shows that the shirts we were going to receive would be exclusive shirts designed for the New Year's shows.  The shirts everyone received were just regular shirts available at the merch stand that night.  True, some people received shirts with the Vegas dates on them, but these weren't exclusive or anything since they were available at the stand that night for anyone to buy.  I would have been happy with that, but I received shirts (also available that night) that didn't even have the Vegas dates!  I contacted Ground Control many times and was ultimately told that I got what was promised to me, which is technically true.  Not satisfied with that (and by the way I am not the only one who was not happy with all this) I contacted Fernando and Beta about it.  Well I heard back from Fernando, offering to rectify the situation.  I sent him my address but never heard back yet.  Now don't get me wrong, the meet and greet was awesome and the band fucking rocked as always, but still it would be nice if all these shirt issues get resolved.

Fernando informed me via Facebook that the shirt was a mistake.

And.... ? Is there any concrete info as to how and when this will be rectified?

But if this isn't fixed I am going too be pissed. lol Sorry gnr but this was a huge mistake. How the hell does something like this get past the powers that be? I would prefer a bootleg looking CD era shirt, with an orange star on than this Appetite artwork. I'm sure it's a genuine mistake, but it's thought provoking nontheless.

I do however love that other artwork that's shown in the picture, looks cool.

Being "Management" is a lot of work.  It involves requiring 3rd parties to get your approval before proceeding with their actions.  Its not end of the world or anything, but to me this is just a small window into why things are always getting fucked up. 

They should just take a look at the Metallica fanclub and do everything they do. Just replace the word Metallica with Guns N' Roses.

Then we'd have a great fanclub.

They're not out of the woods yet. I'll admit the shirt is awesome but the Fanclub still has a long way to go. What about the bandana and patch they claimed were going to be exclusive to fan club members yet, they are the same exact one's that were sold with the CD boxset? Well, atleast they're making progress.

Can't wait to get that shirt. It's probably the coolest GNR shirt I'll own. I still can't believe I didn't get any merch from the tour and went to 6 shows....and I promised myself after each one I'd get a shirt next time....facepalm. Wish I had gone to 06 shows so I could get the shirts from back then. They were fucking awesome as well.

That's BS. We shouldn't have to send back the AFD shirt and wait even longer because of their mistake. And are we going to have to pay for the shipping? Why should the fans have to wait any longer or pay more? Let us keep the AFD shirt and use it as a chew toy for the dog or something, and groundctrl can ship us the shirt seperately and cover the costs of their mistake.

You know, I joined the fan club with the primary motive of supporting the band and I'm just disappointed that it appears to have gone sour on them. I didn't have high expectations because I'm a member of another ground ctrl-run fan club and, quite frankly, they've made a pig's ear of that too. For the band's sake, I hope someone from the Guns camp can get hold of the management of this company and give them a good kick up the arse, then fire them, and find someone to run it who's worthy of being associated with the GN'R name. jarmo, how much spare time do ya have? ;)

I'll gladly take both shirts, and don't have a problem with an AFD t-shirt.  BUT, I completely understand people being upset for not getting what they were promised.  And with as much as we've been told over the years to look ahead and support the current lineup, a t-shirt with the likenesses of Duff, Steven, Izzy, and Slash left me scratching my head a bit.  Again, not that I have a problem with it, just something seemed a little off.  I'd love to support the band moving forward and have no issues with the cost if that's the end game.  Getting an AFD shirt didn't seem to be going in that direction to me though.

Haha I tried to join after TSI, and I never received anything.  My mom was pretty angry at me for convincing her to drop $20 on that fan club.  I always wondered who ended up getting that $20. 

With that being said, my prior fan club experience had nothing to do with my decision to not join up this time around.  I hope everyone who joins finds it to be worth their cash!

I can see why Axl and Co. Avoid doing this kind of stuff - its an administrative nightmare. Needless to say I wasn't overly excited to get the AFD shirt and now it's pretty much junk. Does anybody else notice their shirts being off center.

Completely agree with you. I'm a loyalist to the band and the brand. As such, I cannot see it as their fault and would understand that, historically, they have been mis-represented to the average fan by instances like this; and we all know that contrary to all the rumours, anyone that has anything to do with ANYONE in the immediate GNR camp has nothing but positive things to say. That's sorta what I devote my time and money to when supporting them and that...along with the Youtube Live streams and then making it available for free...I can tolerate a minor fuckup like this...and a few hours per show!

That being said, funny how there's a shitload of "Slash" ads on every GNR video these days!!!!

I too got my flag tee, bandana, buckle and patch today. Glad to get something for the 60 bucks I spent but damn, was really hoping for that new 'fan club t-shirt' that had been shown. I just don't get how it took this long and still can't get a  new shirt printed! I strongly support the band and know they have nothing to do with it at all. But those who do need to get it together and get the fans the updated tees on there at least the ones they sell at the shows. I just don't see why someone can't pull the trigger on these things, alas GNR fan for life!

Received a phone call from ground control today. They said they are all out of XL shirts and that has been the hold up. They are going to send out a Large plus a lithograph from the Up Close and Personal Tour. I already have one but I'll bring this to Vegas and hopefully get it signed by the band. I think not renewing the gunsnroses membership. The second t-shirt was nice. The forum was near unusable due to large fonts and layout. Overall, it feels like it's mostly about a 50$ t-shirt.

The whole concept could have been done better. Imagine buying web exclusive show videos, or streaming rehearsals. Interviews with band members with web members submitted questions.

I must of been one of the lucky first invites because I'm now in, got an official invite a few weeks ago. But I must say, the whole concept of this backpane thing I still don't get, I'm still just as clueless as to what it pertains to, to when I first signed up.

I noticed a few pictures getting posted on FB, which originally came from the backpane site, but what is the aim of the site?. I wish it would become more clear, and it might do in the near future but at the moment, I'm just waiting to see what happens.

Also had to do a questionarre a few days ago, in relation to what kind of fan I was, and that was kind of cool. But I still want to know more about this whole concept, maybe they are just getting started, we'll see.  :D

Having said that, I'm not really interested in another t-shirt, another belt buckle, and another bandanna.

I would be happy to renew, at a discount, and forgo the swag.  And I sent them that feedback.

I think the club was pretty good, for an official fan club.  It provided similar offerings to what other clubs have.  I don't think you could expect much more.

The problems I had with the club was the lack of communication from from ctrl regarding issues like the contest, points, merchandise etc.

I guess my expectations were high but I still think ground ctrl did a piss poor job at running that joint. As for the exclusive digital content, Kat would post all of the "exclusive" photos from the Nightrain to her Facebook page for the world to see. I couldn't give a fuck who sees what, but it kind of takes away from the exclusivity of the club.

If things change I will renew I a heartbeat.

I would have loved to have seen an exclusive video section on Nightrain. Pro shot Video from throughout GN'R history. Or they should have just sent us the HOB 01/01/01 DVD as a sign up present. haha.

Seems like a great deal to me.  Call me optimistic, but predict a tour in early 2014 which will make the exclusive presale invaluable.  Excellent news!!

It's pretty obvious the band has no interest in het fanclub and it's just another way to empty our pockets. If you like the t-Shirt, keychain, guitar pic and fake laminated pass, and you want to pay $40 for it, go ahead. But don't waste your money for the "exclusive digital content" or "video chats"!

When my membership ran out this summer I didn't bother renewing it because I didn't feel it was worth the money.
I'm happy to see that there's a chat scheduled with Bumblefoot and the $15 membership option is cool also, but I will wait and see if these interactions with band members and more exclusive digital content will acually happen. If it does happen I will be more than happy to sign up for a membership again.

I think the exclusive digital content is the forum and the photographs.

I think a lot more people would join if they could actually see a lot of great stuff going on there, but they don't. Some people will join for the sake of joining, but others need to see it being worthwhile, and I think a lot of people don't. Put it this way, I doubt they will get anywhere near the amount of "members" as they had last year.

It's also simply not hard to get tickets either...

Personally if I was worried about being shut out ...I'd be more inclined to sign up for the pre sale stuff

I mentioned a while ago that it would take a big change for me to rejoin the Nightrain. I know this stuff isn't the biggest of improvements but I do think it's headed in the right direction. I really dig the new members gear and the recent changes they've made so I probably will rejoin very soon.

I'm also going to join really soon, it seems to be a nice little extra in GN'R land to be in the fan club and all. I know you don't get the world when you join, but I feel paying the membership fee is worth it alone for just supporting the band. I mean they are our favourite band after all right, no matter all of the struggles we go through with them.

If so, are the moderators there saying anything about the plans for the fan club in 2015?

I think they started pretty good this year with video interviews with the band members, but after a couple of months nothing happened. Very disappointed with the whole thing I must say. Seems like the only thing the site is good for right now is ordering VIP concert tickets if GN'R happens to swing by your neighborhood.

I think everybody is enjoying a little break now. It's too early to make definite plans for the whole year.

I hope they update the fan club package so you get a new shirt when you renew.

Yes, I'm not talking about the band itself, but the fan club.

If they plan to update the fan club package, there should be some sort of plan for the year, not just a new t-shirt. The plan doesn't need to be in full detail, but give some sort of idea of what they're offering. After all, we're paying for this. I don't know if it's just me, but I think the fan club has been a huge disappointment, and they haven't lived up to a lot of promises.

^^If you were asking what the people that run the fan club are taking a break from, my guess would be jerking off. Hate to be like the guy that bitches about the set list but wasn't at the concert ( I don't pay for the fan club thingy) but from everything I've heard, they haven't really been making it worth anyone's while so far. That sucks because there's a lot of potential there considering how limited Guns' level of interactions with its fans is. I would be all over it if it lived up to its inherent possibilities a little more. Guns really deserves better as far as I can tell. I am of course only making assumptions. I don't really know the whole story and am going off of what I can deduce from what I have read about it so far. If anyone knows more than me and I'm getting it all wrong, please don't hesitate to fill me in.   

Well from my experience, most people that run fan clubs and fan sites do so Unpaid, so I am giving them a little slack..

As for the band, haven't they kept themselves pretty busy this year? If I didn't have this month long break after that last semester at ASU I'd be going crazy right about now.

MB 1 week, MB 2 weeks off of work......

My little children in school have had 2 weeks off and I took one week vacation from work as well.  But the thing is most people work every day to take this time off...

Sure the band may have been busy this year..    What a few concerts spread through out the year...   Ok...    But now how much time off do they need

Fortunately for them they have been successful enough in regards to their careers that they can choose to work at their own pace. Besides, being in a band like GNR is probably a little different from some of the more common occupations out there. It's like Dave Mathews (who I know you are quite fond of  ;)) once said, trying to make music when you don't feel like it is like trying to take a shit when you don't have any shit in you. From my experience, this statement is accurate.

So when do you think they should get back to this work

The band is on a break. Makes more sense to make plans once the band isn't on a break.

Work in general? Work on the album, a tour? Shit man, I don't know. Whenever they feel like it I guess. If I was omnipotent then I would pump so much adrenaline into their asses they would have a heart attack if they stopped working on the album. It would be like that shitty movie speed only they'd be making albums instead of driving a bus. If they don't feel like it then they don't feel like it, what more can I say?

Things like "we are working to provide more exclusive content for members to benefit from in the near future to make the site fully interactive, and solid for years to come".

Well, they started off good with lots of contests and video-chats with band members, but after a while the whole thing just died out. They have definitely not been working hard on keeping things solid. There are very long periods of inactivity on that site. If they want to keep members in the fan club, they should keep things fresh, otherwise people lose interest in the whole thing.

I did post a list of suggestions for them in the forum, but as far as I know there's not even a response to that (I haven't got access now, so I'm not sure).

The potential to make something special is huge, but I got a feeling of indifference from the group running that site. I don't know how involved the band is with that business.

Yes, I can agree about the chats. There's a little more logistics that needs to be in place and there's only so many band members. A video chat with Axl would have been cool though.

It is parceled out to a private, generic 'fan club' company. I forgot their name of the company but it is one of these companies which run a lot of different people's fan clubs/websites. It is not like Metallica's club where it was created and is controlled as an independent appendage of the band.

That's a no brainer right there. I would pay for the whole year long subscription for the video chat alone. Does he ever do those on the fan club thing?

Just remembered. Ground (ctrl). They also run Backstreet Boys's and Linken Park's fanclubs!!

Ah, I see. I'm not too familiar with the current limitations of technology and all that so thanks for clearing that up. If a video chat were not possible, at least some form of communication would be cool. But even then, chances are that so many people would be asking questions that yours might not ever be answered.


Now that's just sad. But before I criticize, I am curious as to if other fan websites are done differently? Does anyone know of any fan sites for other bands that are run exceptionally well compared to the GNR fan club?

The problem is that the fan club does't really offer you anything that is exclusive...

People will hear the reports of what they said instantaneously anyway...

and offering first crack at tickets.... well it's not really hard to obtain any ticket you want for GNR

So.. they are fighting an uphill battle...but that doesn't excuse the shoddy track record they have with the fan club over the years.

If an all inclusive video chat with Axl would cause the site to crash, maybe they could do a contest for one where only the winners could be involved in the chat. Even if it was only once a year, that seems like it would still be a rare enough appearance that he could still maintain his stealthy mysterious legendary Pokemon status. I don't blame him for not doing it, but I also don't see why not. I guess he does though.

Exclusive access to the fan club forum.
Exclusive access to contests and chats in the past.
Exclusive access to photos from the shows.


So, yes, it does offer some things that you can't get anywhere else. No matter how much you claim the opposite. Don't say they don't offer anything just because you don't like that they offer.  : ok:

Yes, there are exclusive items when you are a member.

The photos are really good, and exclusive for the fan club members. But, photos in itself isn't really an exclusive thing. Whenever they are touring there a tons of photos from alternative sources.

Imo they could have provided some stuff that you won't see ANY other place. What about Del doing backstage video interviews while on tour? Videos from rehearsals before the tour starts, sprinkled with some interviews. This is stuff fans love to see.

I think there's potential not exploited fully here.

The Metallica club offer a thick magazine about five times per year with exclusive news, interviews, photos (from the studio). There is also fan participation, places to trade bootlegs and write letters. When you join you also get an exclusive fan club t-shirt, picks, photos and other stuff. They also offer free (obviously under the subscription package) backstage passes. You are pretty much guaranteed to meet Metallica if Metallica are playing your area in your year of subscription - and that includes Hetfield. They also offer exclusive merchandise. Online, you get access to exclusive digital content and a fan area on the forum. The other areas on the forum, are (unlike GN'R's) free to all. Occasionally Metallica play club gigs exclusive to fan club areas. They also have these crazy competitions where the winners get to hang out at the studio.

$45 for all this. Only $5 more than Nightrain which currently offers,

An exclusive Nightrain Guitar Pic Set with Custom Tin.
An exclusive Nightrain Fan Club Laminated Pass.
An exclusive Nightrain T-Shirt.
An exclusive Nightrain Keychain.

And yes, the forum!!

The digital content has turned into a colossal lie and the VIPs are, access, i.e. not included in your subscription price.

I am going to be accused of 'negativity' again, but in my opinion the GN'R fan club has been little short of a disaster: wrong t-shirts announced; a fan forum which is reportedly, terrible; exclusive digital content promised, but not delivered; band participation disappearing after the first few weeks (BF did some chats in the beginning and that is it); a competition delivering a, beach towel! Throw on the website which basically only consists of GN'R's video promos and a place to buy t-shirts. The news is not exclusive and months out of date. The forum is tied up with the fan club so cannot be accessed.

Everyone I have talked to who has joined the club, cleared off after the first year or will not be rejoining.

It is basically a template on how, not, to run a fan club.

We've already established in this thread that there's room for improvement.

But different bands have different limits that they work within.

This day and age, the band will really have to include some pretty cool things in order to justify charging fans for this

I am a 35 year old, why on earth would I pay money for pictures of a band?  

I could see mb a 14 year old girl paying money for some fan club of some silly boy band, with neat pictures

Why not with the next albums release include a 1 year membership with every physical album purchased.  Then in the span of that one year have many different features to try and keep the fans staying.  Live video chats, intactive forums, presage concert discounts, organized fan party's in city's worldwide

It's included in the package. You're not paying extra for it.

My friend theorised that the Metallica magazine (So What) was worth the price of admission alone.

In fairness Bacon, few bands do it as well as Metallica (but then, few do it as badly as Guns). Metallica do go, that extra mile. Most of the bands for instance now sell VIPs like Guns so this would presuppose that they do not operate a Metallica 'Meet and Greet' system, by which you get a VIP with your subscription if they tour in your area that particular year. I am looking at the Kiss fan club and it looks similar to Nightrain, i.e. a quite corporate impersonal affair which merely offers access to an online community and priority ticketing: http://www.kissonline.com/kiss-army. I think Pearl Jam do fan clubs well also. They do not offer the VIP service Metallica do but you do get a magazine and an exclusive 45". The price is excellent also:

I was a member of the club when it launched,frankly i supose you could say i got a pretty good deal with getting 2 t shirts(the AFD and the fan club one) that time out but i guess in the long run while the peeps there were great it was hard to justfy the money for it,the forum was ok but that seemed to get any new info last or so it seemed at the time.

A shame but in the end for me it just wasnt worth the money though i do miss the people on the forum.

Well, doesn't make any sense to me. Some of you may not agree but this is the best band in the world. I feel like they deserve better. That Metallica thing blew me away. Man, I would be all over anything that came even remotely close to resembling that. In a way I hate to be here pushing this subject because I know it's a little obnoxious. I've never even actually payed for the thing. Just one last gripe/question and I'll move on:

I don't know what rights GN'R themselves have to give away or sell music through their fan club. You'd think that it might not be that easy...

I think running a fan club can be either done like Metallica and Pearl Jam (who I assume have the right to give their fan club members music) or you out source it to a company (like GN'R).

Obviously the first option means the people doing the fan club are more involved with the band since they are dealing with one band and one fan club. The second option, the same people might run multiple fan clubs and it's "just another customer".

Metallica and Pearl Jam generally spoil their fans rotten through their fan clubs, so why wouldn't Guns' fans desire the same perks?

You bring up some good points and I agree it's a struggling fan club. Though, If you are a diehard GNR fan than you should already know that Axl is reclusive and barley hangs out with the band members, much less the fans/strangers. In rescent years he's been much better about taking a picture and signing an autograph or two, but what more do you expect from Axl? It's not like he's going to be on time for a 6:45pm meet & greet or sit down and play Call Of Duty with the fans before a show  :hihi: I suppose the least he could do is include a signed 8x10 photo by himself and a few band members in the kit, or some sort of unique item of value. YES the media content on the site really needs to be improved!!

Cool. Been waiting for the new packages since I got the email from the Nightrain club telling me to wait for the new packages before renewing membership.

Bought my package this morning.  I think the $50 package was missing something....a guitar pic or something to differentiate it from buying a $30 tshirt plus the $20 bandana & lanyard pack, both of which come with a year membership too.  There should have been some extra value.  I am actually surprised that for $10 you can pick up the Lanyard and get a year access.

Shirt is pretty cool though.  Will definitely be picking up a few more of those for the collection.

Hopefully this reignites that site a little bit.  It had some OK times during the South America tour and was a bit active during Vegas, but then the drought set in.

Absolutely nothing new.  In fact they have gotten rid of the point system as of yesterday too.  No activity in months other than someone wishing Axl a Happy Bday.

As long as they can't offer anything special, that forum will never be as active as the well-established ones. Regular posting by the band members could probably be their "secret weapon".

The coolest thing they have ever done was the Nightrain promo for the South American tour where people got access to the stage.  I was hoping they would have carried that onto Vegas, but they didn't.
