Nice, Gnr and Avenged together?  I might make my first ohio trip for that.  This is really cool.  The rest of the line up is complete shit though, but I would make the trip just for those 2 bands.

Would be nice to know which night before tickets go on sale. I think I'll make the drive out for it but really don't need to see the supporting acts.

Didn't Suicidal Tendensies warm up in Oslo 93?

BTW. Can recommend Kvelertak to those of you are going (fun fact: the bass player joined a norwegian "supergroup" who did a cover of Its So Easy a few years back, to celebrate Axl's 50th birthday) :-)

I am going to this show.  I am coming from Boston, MA.  Any suggestions on hotels?  Should I do the ticket/hotel package?  I have never been to that part of the country so it should be interesting.  Anyone that wants to meet up let me know.  I had a blast at the NYC shows in 2006 with you fuckers!!!!

I've gone to this festival the last three years and it's an amazing festival.  That being said I think it's a mistake for Guns to headline.  The people who go here don't cater to bands like Guns.  Bands like Korn, Avenged, Five Finger Death Punch, Stone Sour, Lamb of God and Rob Zombie tear it up there.  70 thousand strong get into bands like that.. where when bands like Soundgarden and the Smashing Pumpkins played more people seemed to leave than stay.  The festival defiantly has a younger crowd that prefers more modern bands, and usually the heavier bands seem to do better.

I do think there will be a lot of interest in Guns and a lot of people will check them out, but I think a lot of people will lose interest and walk out too.  Hopefully Guns isn't playing Sunday because a lot of people usually skip the Sunday headliners to travel home (people come from all over to see this festival... hell it's an 8 hour drive for me to go!).

That all being said I can't fucking wait to go this year now.  Rock on the Range is one of my favorite weekends of the year and something I look forward to going to all year and the fact that I'll be able to see Guns for the third time there is amazing to me.

Sorry for double posting but just some RotR tips;

For anyone looking to go defiantly get field admission.. stadium admission is about half the price (99 for seats 170 for field) but it's not worth saving the few bucks.  You can sit in the stands or go on the field with the field admission and the most important part is the two side stages are on opposite sides of the stadium so if you want to get to one side stage from the other it's so much easier and faster to cut across the field than it is to walk around the stadium.  If you stay in the area on the commute to the stadium avoid the highways, they get clogged up and it takes forever to get to the stadium.  The first year I went we stayed maybe 10 minutes away from the stadium and it took over an hour to get there on the highway.  Take the back roads, they are never clogged up and it's always a breeze to get into the stadium.

You can buy single day tickets later on in the year but you can only get seats for single day.  If you are only going for Guns it might be worth it though because you can grab seats early on in the day and then just stay there the whole day and get a close view.  For me field is the way to go though.  I've seen some great bands like Soundgarden, Incubus and A Perfect Circle and was able to get maybe 20-30 feet away from the stage each time.

If anyone has any questions about the fest feel free to ask.  I encourage anyone in the area to take a trip down if they can!

So in the past they have not sold individual day tickets for field admission?  Hmm... that may change things.  Also, no tent camping anywhere?  Nothing better than camping near a festival.

Post by: Eclipsed107 on January 19, 2014, 11:12:29 PM
Nope, single day tickets are sold for the bleachers only.  They won't go on sale until after the field tickets are sold out.  There are camping grounds but as far as I know you can only get on the grounds if you buy a ticket package with the camping grounds included.  I could be wrong about that, we always stay at a hotel, so don't take my word for that.

In its eighth year, Columbus, Ohio's Rock on the Range festival has expanded to a full three-day lineup, with Guns N' Roses, Avenged Sevenfold and Kid Rock serving as the 2014 headliners. Avenged Sevenfold: The Billboard Cover Story

day to day lineups aren't released until about 3 weeks before the concert.

you also have to be careful when it comes to the lineups being posted before the official announcements, a lot of bands will post the friday date on their fb or webpage because that is the first day of the festival when they are actually scheduled for saturday or sunday.

another thing to consider a lot of bands who play rock on the range also play the wmmr mmr'bq in philadelphia, guns could possibly headline that too.  it actually takes place in camden nj across the river from philly.  the last 4 or 5 years a ROTR headliner headlined the MMR'BQ.

I picked up the $2500 VIP package. We flew to Rocklahoma with the same deal for the gig last May. Couldn't resist catching GnR in our back yard again. It's a short drive over from central Indiana. I've gone to couple Stones gigs in Columbus. Great college town.

Would love to go, this is like an hour from me..... which never happens...gnr this close to home.  But I hate outdoor, all day shows so I'm not gonna bother.  Not real thrilled with other bands either.  I'm not sure about hotels in Columbus, but the drivers in that city suck and traffic patterns are kinda screwed on the freeways, so be very attentive driving if you come by car.  Hope everyone has a great time.

The outdoor thing is the only thing keeping me from going to the show. It would suck to stand in rain all day. Guns N' Roses should have been giving Saturday night.

Seems like there's hardcore fan who do that, and then others who go down to the front to see one band and then leave...

Ah another experienced "ranger" I see! I was at the 2007,2008,2009,2011,& 2012 rotr. I agree the crowd might not be as receptive to gnr (I hope I'm wrong) but they are usually into ffdp, korn, and other types of screaming music (which I hate btw) rotr wasn't always like that though, it's just the metal heads began overrunning the festival a few years ago and the promoters began to cater to that crowd. It's still a great time though, and hopefully folks stick around for gnr as they put on an amazing show. I always get stadium tickets and never have a problem getting to the side stages. They usually provide enough time. I'm not the moshing/crowd surfing type so stadium works out well for me.

I heard a rumor that they extended the curfew on Friday night to allow for guns to play an extended set... Any truth to this?

80 minutes? I think Governors Ball in NYC was 90 minutes and GN'R went on before their set time and were able to play longer....

Not that I'm worried about not getting up front, I just hate outdoor shows, and all day out in the sun I just can't do.  Plus the price is a little high to go and just see gnr.

That's the drawback with festivals. They're usually outdoors and tickets cost more than a regular gig....  ;)
If you find a festival with a couple of bands you wanna see, then it's a good deal usually...

They didn't announce the schedules yet, which makes sense since it's almost three months away still.
It'll be interesting to see who plays with GN'R on the main stage. Sometimes you get interesting line ups at these festivals...

Someone had posted at another forum that the promotor was on the radio and said that the curfew had been extended for guns. Just not sure, as I take these types of statements with a grain of salt, although it seems very possible as gnr tend to play pond sets. I would love for them to put on a full length set!!

Don't know what part of Ohio you are from but may in Ohio could be anything..... rain, snow, hot, humid, thunderstorms, tornados..... the weather is pretty iffy in may here.

All 3 years I've ever been to RotR the weather was really nice.  From my understanding it's only ever rained once during that weekend.  It can get a little warm during the day but the weather always seems to be perfect by the time the sun is going down.

For east coasters the sun seems to set a little bit later over in Columbus than it does on the coast.

I often avoid music festivals, because sets are cut short....but 2.5 hours looks damn good to me!

These "Rock on the Range" folk seem to understand this sorta thing....

Wasn't planning on going as I figured it would be shortened set and GNR was the only band I cared about but I got free tix through work so I'll be there and bringing my son to see them too.  Hope the rain holds off, it's only supposed to be around 50 out by the time GNR go on and if it's raining too that could be pretty miserable.

I don't know.

The singer of Staind is not the best anyway, he's a fan of old GN'R, and has popped a few jokes onstage over the years about Axl and CD when doing covers of their songs

Went to the last 3 years of Rock on the Range and couldn't go this year due to some financial issues among my friends, breaks my heart that I'm not there this weekend!! :'(

Honestly every year I've gone it was one of the best times I've ever had in my life, well worth the 8 hour drive.

I hope everyone who went this year is having a great time, and enjoys Gn'R.  At least I got to see 'em in Bethlehem!

I've got a feeling the 2.5 hours gives them some leeway to show up past the scheduled start time..

Gnr was incredible. They put on one very awesome show. Between all the outfit changes, the pyro, the great videos, and the awesome way the let the band stand out... fucking incredible anyone say otherwise is fucking retarded.

Randi Pants

Nooo it was awesome. There was about a half hour I would've cut out in the middle. It was just a bunch of solos and a couple guitar ones were cool and then it just continued and there's no need for a keyboard solo.

There is some positive feedback. I have been battling for gnr last night. There is a lot of hate on there too. Two many people not willing to admit they were great, which they absolutely were. There are actually people claiming that staind was the best part of the night. So you can't take them seriously at all. Aaron Lewis liked like he didn't want to be there. Gnr stole the show plain and simple.

Wow, he really does sound better.

I was watching this I love and better and YCBM on some new vids.
I am kinda blown away by the diff since Vegas.  We r not in 2010 mode but damn close.
He sings incredibly and has power and rasp and much more control than he did back in 88.
But there are true moments where I hear him howling like axl.

Yeah, I copied from text and it came out weird.  Go to YouTube and check vids by i8shroomz and another few.  Sick angles and sick sound.  And it was not even indoors.
You never know.  I am in heaven when he sings the way he did at rock on the range.  I wonder if he will get even better.
