Title: Petition/Appeal To Axl : Play Slither On The Tour
Post by: Millions on April 12, 2016, 09:58:36 PM
Hey, everyone - I would love.... LOVE...... if we could somehow pull this off. There seems to be a lot of good feeling right now between everyone - the band and fans, especially. It would be absolutely incredible to hear Axl's vocals on this song.

Slash and Duff are happy to play Better, This I Love, etc, so it would be nice if Axl would return the gesture - don't you think? And I know some fans here would have a different song-choice to Slither - but this makes sense - as well as being a great up-tempo, hard rock track, it was quite a high profile (Grammy award-winning) song, so a lot of the non-hardcore fans will know it.

So let's see if we can get this petition going........

Thanks,

John.

No need IMO to play Slither.
I think there isn't even enough time in a current set to include enough of the GNR catalog.

No.

The difference is that "Slither" is NOT a GNR song. There's no reason for that...
I would like to hear some forgotten gems from the UYI's instead or even another one from the Spaguetti.. maybe Ain't it fun.

That's a dumb idea, it's not a GNR song so why would people want to hear it? Should they start playing snakepit songs too?

Title: Re: Petition/Appeal To Axl : Play Slither On The Tour
Post by: Millions on April 12, 2016, 10:49:48 PM

It would also be a nice, fitting tribute to Scott, I think.

And it would be symbolic, in a way - the guys are playing the Chinese Democracy songs, and Axl is singing their stuff. It would be a symbolic moment that they've made their peace.

taking the time and resources to start a petition for them to play this song wouldn't be practical.

Instead of wishing and hoping for the things you want, be grateful for what you are getting.

fuck me.. i have heard it all now.

It's a GNR tour... not a fucking go between of all the bands these guys have ever played in.

I like slither.... but like a lot of other people... there is a dozen songs from GNR's catalogue we haven't heard played in ages that i would prefer before anything that didnt come from GNR specifically.

And anyway.. im gonna steal one of Jarmo's quotes for once... why cant you just be happy with what you've got?  :P

Well lets be honest... it was a very very different Gn'R. Pretty unheard of when everyone leaves but 1 guy.

And yes, I wouldn't mind hearing "Slither" great song. I would prefer any UYI song over it though.

IF they'd really do a VR song, it should be Set Me Free ;) but as the others said, this doesn't make much sense. VR is more similar to STP than GNR - I like it, but it's almost a different genre :)

Just a bad idea, plus his voice wouldn't fit that song at all, there's a lot of vr songs he could sing better.

We want gnr songs old & new

Title: Re: Petition/Appeal To Axl : Play Slither On The Tour
Post by: FreddieJames on April 13, 2016, 05:57:45 AM
Since many seem to knock this idea, I want to say that I definitely understand where you're coming from.

I too thought how amazing Slither or Set me Free would have sounded (when VR released Contraband) if Axl did vocals on it. It was a Guns song, in my opinion, but without Guns vocals. Of course, Scott's vocals made it different. But musically, it's not far off from UYI (YCBM for example).

So yeah, I am with you: I too hope someday to maybe hear how those songs will sound with Axl on vocals. But that's a dream man, a fantasy. I don't think they ever will and I'd rather have them write new songs and perform those than for them to play VR songs.

With that train of thought why are they playing the Seeker? But I agree with both sides.  it would be a nice gesture to Slash and Duff and it would garnish a lot of publicity on social media....

I was and am a big fan of Velvet Revolver... but I'd rather see them do GNR deep cuts we haven't seen a while too like other have said.

For those who are so adamant against it... why is that?

What is the difference if they did do it compared to any other of the handful of cover songs various versions of GNR have done over the years?

If Axl hates the thought of VR and has no interest in it... then fine...but none of you know thats how he feels.

Having VR's two albums and having seen them at Rolling Rock, "Slither" wouldn't be my first VR selection for Axl but I say go for it!  There's actually a song on Slash's first solo album called "By the Sword" sung by the Wolfmother guy which would, from the moment that I heard it, absolutely sound killer with Axl manning the mic.  Hell, he could even change the lyrics it's so perfect for him to sing.  Gn'R put out an entire album of covers and plays covers as staples (even a quarter century later) at the last three shows which they had no part in writing (LALD and KOHD), and managed to sneak in yet another cover "The Seeker" which they had no hand in writing.  If they are already playing 3 songs which they had no hand in writing (and were recorded a half of century ago), why would they not play songs which two of their original members wrote and recorded with the drummer from UYI?

Would be awesome, a little bit of career trade off.

But isn't that the only real upside, a symbolic one?  Some gesture to show Axl respects Slash and Duff's other work?

Is this really a priority?

Put another way, although they would never cut one of the hits, something would be cut.  So would you trade a performance of 'Yesterdays' or 'My Michelle' to get 'Slither' in there?

Not me.

But is it their definitive song?

If you opened up polling to pick on VR song to sing, wouldn't the choices be all over the map?

Furthermore, the covers they do play are songs that influenced them as a band, no?

My thoughts exactly on the argument as to "It's not a Guns' N Roses Song"

It's more of a guns song than Layla, or Wish You Were Here (percentage of band members who wrote it wise)

Also its an awesome riff, with an awesome solo. I want to hear it. My desires for songs to hear them play go

1. Locomotive
2. Locomotive
3. Locomotive  (Not a typo)
4. Perfect Crime
5. Slither
6. Right Next door to Hell
7. Bad Apples
8. Garden of Eden
9. The Garden

And there are some snakepit/slash solo album songs that if Axl put a spin on it would sound awesome. Hell even if he re-wrote the lyrics to some of them I wouldn't care. I'm not pleading for this to happen though.

I think most of us were genuinely surprised they pulled that one out of the hat at these first shows already!  :D

I don't want to demand songs from GN'R, but a part of me wishes for even more stuff from UYI. I won't be ungrateful if they don't play any "new" songs though, the setlist right now is pretty nice, dare I say one of the best ones yet.

I don't see it happening (and frankly I think Fall to Pieces or Anastasia would be a better song live)... But the CD era lineup performed Motivation from Tommy's Village Gorilla Head so it's not out of the norm for them to play a band members solo song... the oddity in this case would be Axl singing it.

However... We have Coma and Double Talking Jive with other songs in the mix... anybody's solo stuff is really the last thing I'm looking for (unless it winds up as a Jam or Guitar Solo like Anastasia)

Agreed.  Truly awesome.

Always high on both alltime favorite songs list and performance requests lists.

But was it likely?  I sure didn't think so.  But they did it and crushed it.

I was thinking the same thing.... sort of surprised by all of the comments basically saying "Hell no, I only want to hear GN'R songs at a GN'R concert"... have you seen how many covers they play?  It never bothered me when Tommy would play Motivation either.

I'm not really itching to hear them play Slither & I think the current songs on the setlist are more than enough for an awesome show - but the reasoning of "only GN'R at a GN'R show" is ridiculous.

It's a band - playing a live concert - if they want to mix it up, isn't that part of the fun?  Even better if they mix in a song written by a couple of the band members.  I don't know many people that complained when VR would mix in STP / GN'R songs in concert.

No way. The reason Slash is playing TIL, CD and Better is because they are GnR songs. Slither isn't GnR. I'd prefer Locomotive or Pretty Tied Up if I'm honest.

Too much bad blood between Axl and Scott for Axl to cover one of his songs. it's best to LET IT GO when it comes to combining GNR and Velvet Revolver.

So consider Slither a cover song.  Replace one of the cover songs guns already does with it, there is a few.

Or consider it to when Tommy would do one of his personal songs, which are not guns songs either.

Quite frankly I am happy to hear guns play anything.   Especially to hear them play odd ball or rare stuff.

I actually agree with this Annie...

If Axl still harbors ill will towards anything VR related... then best to leave it alone...

BUT to say don't do it because it's not a GNR song ...is a flawed argument.

How about a Conspirator song ? Anastasia would be amazing  :peace:

Even if they put out a 50 songs setlists, people will ask them to play songs everybody knows they wont....VR songs, Snakepit Songs...Loaded songs...people just cant be satisfied.

I' m pretty happy with their current set...Estranged, Coma, Civil War, Dont Cry, DTJ....not some many years ago any of these songs would be played!! I remember people were desperate for Estranged and Civil War!!

No need for petitions.  Clearly Axl considers what the fans want to hear, thus why we've seen Civil War, Don't Cry, Estranged and now Coma back in the set.  All of these have had an outpouring of fan requests online before they were added.

I don't love Slither, so I'd rather see them play more UYI tracks.  Locomotive, Pretty Tied Up, Breakdown would be my top 3  :peace:

No petition needed - suggestion to Axl and Co to play whatever the hell they want. They haven't deprived the fans so far of anything exciting. From classics, to songs that haven't been played in forever, for new takes on Chinese Democracy songs. The sets have been on point. I don't see a constant ongoing need dating back to Rock in Rio 3 to bitch, piss and fucking moan about the setlists. It gives off the illusion that you're not enjoying the shows. If you're not enjoying the shows, don't go to them. Don't watch them on YouTube. There are plenty of other ways to spend your leisure time.

We've waiting a while for this - honestly, I was 11 when the "Old Band" played their last show, so this is exciting for me. Even as someone who attended 13 "NuGNR" shows of various incarnations from Tobias, to Buckethead to Finck to Bumblefoot to Ashba, to Brain to Frank...

Let them keep doing what they're doing, and maybe in good time we'll get a few more surprises.  :peace:

I have a sense of ambivalence, and find myself torn between both of these quotes.

GNR's 1987-1991 catalog offers so much (and more so if including Chinese Democracy) that it's logical to just want them to perform within those parameters.

Then again, I'd rather hear them perform "Slither" over ANY of the covers they've recently been playing.... including the ones off of The Spaghetti Incident!

it's not a GN'R song and has nothing to do with Axl. it would not be a cover from a classic band.

CD stuff IS GN'R so it makes sense that Slash would play it.

that makes zero sense to me.

it's not a GN'R song and has nothing to do with Axl. it would not be a cover from a classic band.

CD stuff IS GN'R so it makes sense that Slash would play it.

besides i do not like that song. haha

So there are rules now on what covers the band can play?

I dont think there are rules on anything.

I have more of an issue with what people expect the band to do... some of the requests or ideas i have seen is pretty much just fans expecting the band to give them anything and everything.

Some of it is quite strange if you ask me.

Duff could play a Loaded song instead of Attitude or New Rose.

But I don't think that the songs from Velvet Revolver or Slashs solo albums are suitable for Axl.

If they're to play Slash's songs, I would like to hear By The Sword, Anastasia, I Hold On...

Actually, pretty much all songs from Slash's 1st solo album are awesome to me. I think this album is much too underappreciated. It's an unbelievable album.

That being said, I don't think GNR should play Slash's or Duff's material. Actually I wish they didn't play any covers at all, besides KOHD. Even LALD I could live without

Sorry, didn't know that!

I don't think that should happen, though

Unless you're Bruce Springsteen, who plays 3 and a half hour shows, you should pretty much stick to the band's material. Otherwise it just takes time and space in the setlist

I wouldn't miss "The Seeker".

it's rock n roll. no rules, period. up to them. just stating facts. VR is not a classic band. they are not The Who, or AC/DC. not even close.

Let's be real, this reunion is on Axl's terms, that's pretty clear by the fact that they're playing the friggin title track to Chinese Democracy. There is no chance in hell they'd play anything Slash has done since GNR, no matter how much we want to see it.

And if you wanna pick a song, Fall To Pieces was written while Slash was still in GNR and not used until VR. Also, the entire Snakepit debut album would have been GNR's UYI follow up if Axl didn't reject it, so let's not act like IRS is any more a legitimate GNR song than, say, Soma City Ward when they were written around the same time while both Axl and Slash were still together.

They should bring Sorum and Kushner back! And Axl can front VR and AC/DC! Yay! Are you fucking serious?!? Hand me the petition--I'll fucking burn it! CD songs are GUNS N FUCKIN ROSES songs, like it or not! Yeah they do other covers, mostly by iconic bands. While we're at it, let's dust off some Snakepit stuff! Sorry, I'm drinking and having a VERY shitty night, hence my extreme passion on this (I've heard it before), but this is just a stupid idea

^haha nice! I liked the "Hand me the petition-I'll fucking burn it!" part.

Since we seem to be collecting various requests here, black or white by Michael Jackson featuring Slash gets my vote. Axl could nail that one! Not to mention it was a hit song and the whole crowd would already be familiar with it.

If they can play "The Who", "AC/DC", "Bob Dylan", "The Misfits", etc. then why not?  I think it would be cool especially because Slither is an awesome song.

Bob Dylan, AC/DC, and The Misfits (Ditto New Rose by The Damned) are songs they actually recorded and released as covers on their own GnR branded albums. No?

So that really leaves "The Who" with Seeker as the only unrecorded/unreleased cover song they're currently playing as a full band and that seemed to replace Patience the 2nd night in Vegas. "Layla" and "Wish you were Here" I guess fall into this area too..but for me..those are solos (and taking the place of the unstructured solos that people hated) and there's only so much you can do while maintaining the reasons for those songs.

I think you leave Slither alone.

I wouldn't say that. Yes, they are playing Chinese Democracy songs. But the band lost a third guitar player and the arrangements are clearly more guitar driven with less synths and pre-recorded backing tracks such as backing vocals and drum loops. And IMHO they are playing Coma now because it's "Slash's baby" even though it's a tough song to sing.

IRS was a collaborative effort by several members of GNR and released as GNR. Snakepit was all Slash then handed to Gilby, Matt, Eric Dover and Mike Inez.

But hey, here's an interesting thought from another thread: if Axl would sing Fall to Pieces and/or any Snakepit (the first album) song, would you mind if he changed the lyrics and vocal melodies?

Maybe for a one-off solo, I'd love to hear Slash play Ballad of Death.

1.  I really like that song.
2.  I always thought it was a song that, if Axl added lyrics to it, would easily fit in as a GNR style song.
3.  It would totally fuck with everyone's mind if Slash did a cover of an Ashba song.

I agree that COMA is the ultimate level of surprise - and I totally love it being added to the set.
Still I totally get why people would like to hear some VR or Conspirators tunes. Why not?
I'd love to hear the Dissident, By the sword or Lock n load (hey considering that one - we would have the guitar part fixed already...😂)

It's kind of pathetic that some of you seem to be of the opinion that Slash is so egotistical and/or shallow that you think he would refuse to or can't appreciate, acknowledge and perform good songs written by other artists.

He's already proven wrong those of you who think that way.

Slash playing Chinese Democracy songs is something he had to do to appease Axl to be in the band again. Him refusing to do so...would have been a non starter.

Slash didn't like those songs 20 years ago... hes not playing them now because he now realizes they are masterpieces. He had to play them and I sure am glad he is.

Playing something DJ Ashba wrote... isn't in the same ball park or a fair comparison.

Exactly, it would be the equivalent of Dj playing a Slash solo song during his solo spot when he was in GN'R.

It didn't happen, and Slash will never play a Dj solo song in a GN'R set.

Slash calls Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy "a great statement"
By Joe Bosso September 08, 2008

MusicRadar users voted Axl Rose as the best vocalist to join Velvet Revolver. And perhaps Slash is in agreement - the guitarist has surprisingly kind words for Chinese Democracy, the Guns N' Roses album Axl has labored over for well over a decade. Maybe he wouldn't mind playing the songs live.

"I already listened to it," Slash revealed during a recent interview. "At first I thought that I would never listen to it until it's released, but someone handed it to me and I was in my car and I was like 'Okay, let's give it a try.'

"So I listened to it: It's a really good record. It's very different from what the original Guns N' Roses sounded like, but it's a great statement by Axl. Now you understand where he was heading all this time. It's a record that the original Guns N' Roses could never possibly make. And at the same time it just shows you how brilliant Axl is. So it was a relief for me to actually hear it."

Nine tracks off the album have already been leaked onto the Internet, and Slash had harsh words for the perpetrator. "When somebody takes somebody's work and releases it prematurely just to become famous, it's an incredibly selfish and criminal thing to do. A record is a piece of art. And it shouldn't be released until the creator decides to release it - and I don't care how long it took to make it."

While Slash remains staunchy committed to Velvet Revolver and their search for a new lead singer, he looked back fondly at his early GN'R days.

"I think what was great about Guns N' Roses is that we made it on our own integrity and we didn't give up anything to anybody and made it on our own merit. The early gigs didn't pay well at all. We actually looked forward to getting paid after a gig, but it was usually for the beer. I kept a straight job for a while."

On the subject of current bands, Slash cast a dim view on their need for instant stardom. "Everybody else is making compromises and concessions so that they can make it big and get their picture on the cover of Teen Beat or Us Weekly or whatever. There's a sort of, kind of, selling out to that."

Yes I am aware that Slash has met DJ before...

It was a joke...because people got sooooo upset when Slash didn't seem to know Tommy's name. That he was so evil for making such a passive aggressive remark about the GNR bass player.

I'm also aware of all of those comments Slash made about CD when he heard it. It doesn't change the fact that Slash didn't want much to do with those songs at the time.

It also has nothing to do with why Slash is on board and playing those songs now.

Is it really so hard to admit that the reason Slash "agreed" to play the CD songs are because they are really good songs and they are in fact Guns N' Roses songs.

I have no clue if Slash thinks they are really good or not... common sense says he doesn't... but maybe now he does .. I don't know.

I don't see why Axl would have any issues about doing a VR song if Slash and Duff really wanted one to be included in a set.  Axl doesn't seem to have any issues about doing (what would be for him) cover songs.

IMO, if it's about doing a tribute to Scott (God rest his soul), I think a more appropriate thing to do would be for Axl to briefly include an STP song in his piano solo before NR that everyone can join in on.

Axl, NuGuns, GNR, Guns N' Roses-  whatever label you want to give them over the past 16 years have seldom disappointed in variety in the setlists. I have gone to my share of Guns shows in the NY/NJ/Tristate area, and have never really left disappointed. Some shows were better than others(the four Hammerstein shows in '06 stand out), and Axl's vocals were a mixed bag, but for the most part the variety in the sets have been a strong suit of the band. From new songs, to great covers, to digging up some old classics and some guest singers from time to time.

Maybe in time we'll get a few more surprises? I have no doubt there are some in store for this monumental tour.

I think all the past disconnection issues between Axl and Slash were all hashed out when they committed to the rejoining.

If you believe that Slash needs to walk Axl's line when it comes to being back in GNR then you'd better get a ticket for a show early on the schedule because this rejoining won't last long.

Who knows what has been talked about/rehearsed behind the scenes? That's all in the band. It's clear at some point they took a few of the better Chinese Democracy songs - pun intended, and reworked them a bit. It's cool to see new takes on a few songs that were good on a record that was probably way overproduced. I hope we continue to see a few rarities, a few other Chinese songs reworked - maybe a few more covers, maybe that delves into Slash's or VR's catalog. "Patience" is the word here I think .  : ok:

Just for the sake of argument's sake... and being super liberal in thinking...

Since Slash and Duff are playing CD era stuff... then maybe Axl should sing a couple VR tunes?

For the sake of arguing.

They are GNR songs... because GNR is whatever Axl says it is. So if Slash wants to be a part of GNR .. he's gotta play whatever Axl wants.. lets be honest.
I honestly DO NOT believe that Slash is that much of a pussy that he only plays those songs because he's afraid Axl wouldn't let him rejoin GNR otherwise.

Still don't know how Ballad of Death equates here. Ha.
As I stated when I originally brought it up, I think it's a really good song and would get a kick out of Slash fucking with peoples minds if he played it.

I don't think hes too scared to tell him he doesn't want to play them, but Slash is no dummy. He knows he has to walk the line a little bit to get all that comes with being back in GNR.

He's not scared of anything, it's just part of the deal. Axl would never leave CD songs out of this reunion because he would be disregarding everything he's done with his band, like almost saying "Let's go back to the real GNR material". So if Duff and Slash wanted to make the reunion happen, they have to play along. And that's what they're doing.

I'm not saying that he hates those songs, but they certainly have nothing to do with his style, so he's giving his best to play them in a way that makes sense to him, that fits him better.

GNR is Axl's band because he holds the name legally...but then it's a completely different story if you really believe GNR is whatever Axl puts together and I won't even start on this one...

I think all the past disconnection issues between Axl and Slash were all hashed out when they committed to the rejoining.

If you believe that Slash needs to walk Axl's line when it comes to being back in GNR then you'd better get a ticket for a show early on the schedule because this rejoining won't last long.

that makes zero sense to me.

it's not a GN'R song and has nothing to do with Axl. it would not be a cover from a classic band.

CD stuff IS GN'R so it makes sense that Slash would play it.

besides i do not like that song. haha

So there are rules now on what covers the band can play?
it's rock n roll. no rules, period. up to them. just stating facts. VR is not a classic band. they are not The Who, or AC/DC. not even close.

i'm simply stating facts.

Thanks facts!

There's a sort of, kind of, selling out to that."

woah... I've never seen that before. Thanks Gypsy! I thought I heard he wasn't a fan of CD somewhere. Wow, so he really did like the record. Even called Axl brilliant. I think Duff liked it too, at least I thought I read that somewhere. Maybe Slash is not as against playing on CD2 as much as people tend to think. It was a trip to read that. So he liked it then...

And I don't really want to see them cover black or white as my first choice. I'd much rather see them cover man in the mirror, but Slash wasn't on that one so I'll settle for Black or White.

edit: I got a kick out of Bacon's above post.

Maybe they should just skip GN'R songs completely and only play songs by Snakepit, Neurotic Outsiders, Loaded, Velvet Revolver, Love Spit Love and The Dead Dasies.

WHAT A GESTURE THAT WOULD BE BY AXL!

I second that, I just listened to it for the first time and I think its great that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about, I don't want to hear VR songs exactly as VR did them (or Slash solo stuff exactly how that was) I want to hear them how GNR would do them. I get that people want to hear stuff from the GNR catalog, maybe if don't release new music and continue to tour they can do something special like this instead of continuing to hear the same 10 min KOHD!

GNR have ALWAYS done covers.  They've done them since practically day one! (as I said before, any VR or Snakepit song would be a cover for Axl)

Here's the youtube of Mama Kin from February 2, 1988.  At the very beginning, Axl mentions how this COVER song is on Live ?!'@ Like A Suicide (from 1986).

Edited to add:  And there's no need for any song petitions because, if you listen to the end, Axl takes requests!!!  :hihi:

I like slither, but I have no interest in hearing GnR play it. or at least not over anyone of their songs from any of their albums, almost all of which are better than any VR song.

there are actually a number of other covers I would love to hear them do before any VR song (tons of stones songs, queen, zeppelin, beatles, etc.etc.)

so basically, I'd rather sign a petition AGAINST playing slither or any VR.  :hihi:

No need to add more to it, just cause Weiland dropped dead. There are so many actual GN'R songs, we rarely get to hear live, to choose from, adding more covers would be ridiculous, unnecessary and I'm pretty sure most people go to their shows to hear their own music & hits.

Classy.

I don't think people want to hear it to honor Scott...more so because they're fans of Slash and Duff's involvement with it.

IFFFFF the band was inclined to do it... what would it matter if they swapped out The Seeker for Slither or any other song?

People are so uptight about this stuff.

I don't know for sure, obviously, but when you do something to honor someone it has to be genuine and both Slash and Duff don't seem inclined to do it. Look what they did when Lemy died, they honored him in every possible way, he was their friend. They did not have a good relationship with Scott and I never heard about Axl being friends with Scott or being inspired by him somehow. Why should they do it? I've heard people suggesting this a few times and it doesn't make any sense. I wouldn't be upset if they played Slither, I love the song, but it's been 23 years, there's so many songs from their own catalog I'm dying to see them play live, I just don't see the point.

For obvious reasons, any VR song evokes a connection to Scott.

Grieving someone is an extremely personal and individualized and overwhelming thing.  Not to take away from any close friendship Slash and Duff had with Lemmy, Duff had a very close personal relationship with Scott.  I believe Duff also lost a sibling around the same time period.

The way one chooses to honor anyone is as individualized and personal as those who have passed were to you in life so I really wouldn't read much into how they have publicly honored one person more over the other.

May God bless their souls.  R.I.P.

As much as I love Slither and VR, I don't think it would fit with Axl's voice

In my opinion if they do stuff from Axl's album (I really like Chi Dem but that's not really GNR although Axl insisted to release that as a GNR album), they should do stuff from Duff or Slash as well, BUT I don't think they should do any of that at all. They should focus on GNR catalog and even  try some new songs and have an album (if not Matt or Steven with Izzy at least)  by next year, that would be the best way to celebrate this reunion and the 30th anniversary of AFD in my opinion

Anyway, agree or not
Peace everyone and Keep Enjoyin' to have Duff, Axl and Slash playing together again!!! Keep lovin' GNR!!!!

Let's be real, this reunion is on Axl's terms, that's pretty clear by the fact that they're playing the friggin title track to Chinese Democracy. There is no chance in hell they'd play anything Slash has done since GNR, no matter how much we want to see it.

I'm not saying Axl isn't giving Slash anything, but I don't see him agreeing to anything post-GNR.

I'm sure everyone contributed, but IRS is noticeably Axl's songwriting at it's core.  And Snakepit's debut was fairly collaborative; he had the riffs from the UYI tour and didn't flesh out the actual songs until he started jamming with Sorum and Gilby. Not to mention Gilby wrote Dime Store Rock and Monkey Chow, Eric wrote most of Beggars and Hangers-On and Inez's basslines are a big part of several songs. Some of those outros were clearly the result of just jamming.

To answer the question, not at all. Hell, I would love to hear how he would have handled them differently. Take it Away and Soma City Ward are pure GNR. You can bet he wouldn't sing the lyrics it Take it Away, LOL!

VR was as big a part of the GNR legacy as the Chinese Democracy band.

So you all agreed on this? :) Maybe a group hallucination?!

It's the first time I have read such a nonsense about VR being as important as GNR (CD-era ist still GNR) to the Guns N' Roses legacy

Funny, I thought Slither charted higher than anything off CD...

And your point is?

LOL, that's a pretty big footnote in the legacy. Not to mention VR featured three GNR members. Don't act like you don't know you're being unreasonable.

ROFL you're kidding right? "Pretty big footnote"??

It's the same non-existing argument: VR had three ex-members. Who cares about that?
GNR and VR are two different worlds connected by musicians that played in both bands. Where would according to you "legacy impact" start and end? With three former members, with two? Does Izzy's work with other ex-members count as something that has to be included?

I think we could handle this discussion in another thread since we are on a good way to hijack this thread.

And since you don't know me, you can leave out sentences pretending that you know what I am actually thinking ("Don't act like you don't know you're being unreasonable.")

Don't really think VR songs were written for Axl's style.

Slither is a good song too..   but not something I would sign a petition to see.

The setlists from the Vegas shows were off the charts.    Not sure VR songs really fit in.
