Title: GNR Demo Tape Soundcloud
Post by: troccoli on February 26, 2018, 02:10:45 AM
Hey folks.  As you know from my recent update I recently purchased (with the help of two friends) this 1st generation GNR demo tape written in Izzy's own hand:

Izzy GNR demo tape: http://www.troccolitm.com/TapeDemoIzzy.html

Thanks to those same two friends, the files have been converted to digital using the highest care and quality.  Here is a link to the tracks in stereo, 24/96 FLAC:

https://soundcloud.com/user-591129200/sets/izzy-gnr-demo-tape-in-stereo-2496

I just want to reiterate this: These songs are property of Guns N Roses.  No ownership by anyone else is implied nor should be inferred.  This is for the fans but if requested by the band these songs will be removed and taken down.  Of course the link will also be removed from this forum if the admins feel that way.

Please enjoy responsibly!

Thank you so much Tim & friends! This is of such an amazing quality, never heard anything like this!! This is what record companies threw away and decided to get back to their Tiffanies and Frankie goes to Hollywoods.  ;)

Listening to this on repeat. Been listening to these same songs sings 1994 when I first had them on my demo bootlegs (vinyl  :hihi:) but now I can relive them in a whole new way. It has so many more layers & background vocals that were never to be heard on those 1994 boots... Again: Thanks a million Tim, you're the best!

There it is boys and girls, GNR's complete first demo tape, recorded at Mystic Studio in Los Angeles in August 1985.  How's that for holy grails ???

'Don't Cry' was officially released as the b-side to the 'Don't Cry' single in '91.  Everything else is previously unreleased, especially in this quality.

Thank you so much for sharing !!!  Thanks you for making the files lossless !!!

Hurry up, before they get taken down...

... or wait until they get bootlegged in Japan  ;D

Can't thank you enough  it's so fucking fresh and raw, you can really hear the 80's sound and influence here (it's the small things that never made it to the record, hard to explain).
Amazing, thanks!!

they probably will. the only catch is, there's no way to get them in full quality from Soundcloud - downloading is not permitted by uploader, so the only thing one can download is 128kbps MP3.

Man, you can really hear the Rolling Stones influence on these--especially (and unsurprisingly) on Izzy rhythm guitar.

And am I the only one who thinks this version of "Anything Goes" is actually better than the album track in every way other than sound quality/engineering?

Cool stuff!

It's great to see how the music evolved from this early demo to the final recording.

Axl's the best, the rest of the band sonds so amateur!!  :o

on back off bitch, axl's voice sounds so limpid, more similar to present than the 87'93 era

Oh yes there is ...

There is a reason I put these on Soundcloud after all.  On Soundcloud (with the right settings selected when uploading) you can theoretically prevent people from downloading the tracks.  If you know some trick to get around that do not post that here and ruin this for everyone.  Bottom line, I am not looking for a lawsuit thank you very much.

Is there any way to download these?? ???

See above.

Will these stay up?

It's freaking awesome.

Until I am told to take them down they will remain up!

Does that say "Izzy Stranden"?

That's correct.  Izzy went by Stranded before he went by Stradlin.  I would have been hesitant at first as well, however I also own the first newsletter GNR put out.  In that newsletters Izzy is referred to as Izzy Stranded and Steven is referred to as Bam Bam.  They must have ditched those nicknames early on.  Here is the newsletter:

I also own an early fan club info sheet referring to Steven as Bam-Bam.  I wish I knew what it was torn from.  Here it is:

Out of interest - how did you come to own it? Be interested to know a bit about that.

eBay!  Two other people went it on it with me, I contributed the lion's share.  They did it because they really wanted the tracks.  One of the people that bought it with me is a professional audio engineer.  He's the one that did the transfer.  Each of us has the 24/96 FLAC raw files.

Wow, this version of "Anything Goes" is a revelation ... for me it's always been the "weakest" link (relatively speaking of course) on AFD ... but here it's darker, angrier, more raw ... thanks for posting.
