Pretty big NFL fan, and I have never heard of such a thing.  Not just this year, but any year.

This a festival type thing?   Multiple acts?  Anyone know?

It's a festival taking place over three days. Not sure how many acts perform each day.

Looks like there's one headliner per day....

Well this might be the closest we get to the question if GNR will ever play at the Superbowl and will probably be the closest we get to them playing at a Superbowl lol.

The issue is with the NFL. They no longer want rock acts. They want pop artists, which can appeal to a wide audience. They want to turn that audience into watching regular season games and SBs. There's been articles written about this.

They actually did this last year in Atlanta with Aerosmith headlining one of the nights. It was actually one of their few non-Vegas shows.

I don't that's all that out there of a prediction.  And I never think that with these guys.

But they are operating like a functional commercial entity lately.  We've all heard the March rumors.  If they are true, high profile performance a month out would make some sense.

Think of it this way.  They could just as easily just sit on their asses right now.  In addition, the promoters of this event have any number of bands to ask.  Is it all that out of the realm of possibility that GNR took some initiative here?  Even if promoters weren't thinking Guns N' Roses, if they reach out, what are you going to do...say no?

Maybe they took the initiative because they actually have plans for this year.  Dare to dream, folks!

Axl can do Pac's parts.

No.  Just No.

That's even a worse suggestion than whoever thought it would be a good idea for Julia Roberts to portray Harriet Tubman.

Axl may be described as a lot of things (good N' bad) but "gangsta" ain't one of them.

And if he were to survive the first six mentions of the N word in that song, dime to a dollar says when the song gets to the lyrics "My n***a Dogg with me", no one would be surprised (or blame him) if Snoop's knee jerk reaction is to pull out that Glock and end Axl right then and there!!!

Youze all know that I think Axl can do and get away with most anything BUT Axl doing Tupac's part in anything would be nothing short of blasphemy.

I'm sure there are plenty of songs denigrating women that would be more appropriate for a GNR/Snoop Dogg collaboration.

Again, I have no earthly idea.  I'd say, for me, it's a toss up.

But....I gotta tell you...I just don't feel the "urgency" to get news from the GnR crew that other posters do right now.  IDK....I take Fernando at his word until there is good reason to believe I shouldn't.  And that means I'm not really worried or jonesing for a follow up til his time frame has passed.

If we haven't heard anything specific about new music by the end of March.....I'll wonder whats going on and maybe be a little more hungry for an update.

Til then? Meh.....I'll enjoy the recap show on the 1st.

Urgency?

I personally don't' understand not understanding the need, desire and thirst for new music at this juncture but to each their own.

Simply put - a new album with Slash and Duff involved again can quite simply be a game changer. Maybe I'm overstating it but I know they have potential to put out an album on the level of a Physical Graffiti or even better- I don't think I'm alone on this either. Something like this is something I can take with me through the next 20 years at least - the same way the older albums meant something enormous to me and still do. And this could be the last window, who really knows.

A mere announcement that it is happening, even if it's a year or two away, is something that will strike at my soul 1000% more than another show played with the same old songs played and reading about a tweak to the setlist.

I personally doubt it. I don't really consider this the start of the new tour or "chapter" or whatever.. I figure this is more of a one off show for a crowd of casuals who expect to hear the hits. A new song without context would just confuse them. If GNR had announced a new album by now or actually dropped a single to get it into the public consciousness, I would feel differently.

To be honest, the people I was stood around at the NITL shows were confused by Coma, Double Talkin Jive, anything off CD etc. Pretty much anything that wasn't a 'Greatest Hit' was met with bafflement, sadly.

I don't think you're getting what I'm putting down.

I certainly want new music.  And I think that new music will be HUGE. And I'm REALLY excited to hear it (as an aside, I avoided the leaks!).

But I don't feel urgency FOR AN UPDATE RIGHT THIS SECOND from the band.  I wouldn't be disappointed to hear one.  I just don't feel the same sense of urgent need for more information beyond that, RIGHT NOW.

Fernando said 6 months...about 3 months ago.

I don't have a burning need for a monthly/weekly/daily update.  Until we hear plans have changed (and I'm talking more than Slash's guitar interview), I'm good waiting til March.

If we don't have any more info on April 1, THEN maybe I'll feel a little more "urgency" in terms of getting more information.

I'm not saying other people feeling that "urgency" is wrong. It's their nature.  It's just not mine.

I don't necessarily need (or even want) a new song to be the one chosen for the broadcast.  It's not just GNR being shown in that hour long special.  Each act will get a few tunes, I suspect.  As other have alluded, a new song the first night might well sound like ass.

But we will see the setlist of what they play.  First and foremost, I do not want to see the exact same NITL structure.  If it is, it's not a death knell by any stretch.  But it's also hardly anything to be jazzed about.

I'd like a new song in there somewhere, because the inclusion of even one new song means an album is coming out this year.  'Hard School' for example, was written some time ago.  Long before the NITL tour even began.  I know it was an alternate on NITL setlists, but it really made no sense at that time during what was, really, a greatest hits tour.

You'd play it (or something else "new") because, god willing, 2020 won't just be Year 5 of the $BIG DOLLAZ$ Greatest Hits revue.

the inclusion of even one new song means an album is coming out this year.

Uh, I wouldn't be so sure about that. Remember, new CD material debuted live in 2001. That's not to say that I think it will take 7 years from the live debut of material, but that it may take longer than a year to finish writing and arranging everything, record and release it all. But it does at least indicate that new material is in the works.

They could do that, but as promotion for a new single or album, they're limiting the impact it could have if they're just going to sneak it in there. On the other hand, if there's really no album on the horizon it doesn't matter how you debut new songs.

When Axl said don't get too excited, calm down now, I thought he was going somewhere else with that and my heart started to race.  :D  He's talking though and that's always a good sign of the show getting better and better.  Might be some surprises coming up.

November went off the rails a bit there at the end. It was bugging me that Slash was not on tempo with the solo and then Axl came in way off. They both seem to have bad habits of going off tempo these days.

Edit: Axl just said there was some gear issue fucking things up for the last two songs. Regardless, it's not uncommon, like earlier on Shadow, or any time Slash plays a slower solo. Drives me nuts.

I felt like this was a one off show and wasn’t expecting anything new.  I feel like if they are going to switch anything up, they’d hold it for the actual “next chapter” tour. Most of the background graphics were recycled from the nitl tour.

Some of these bands should look at how roger waters uses technology for a show... recently saw tool and while I enjoyed the show, their background screen just projected their music videos and some fractal art.

It simply does no justice.
Axl was in such great spirits.  Slash is phenomenal.

Second, Axl was good. You want to see someone mailing it in. Look up Brian Johnson from AC/DC at MetLife Stadium. I saw AC/DC 3 times. That last concert was when Brian Johnson was not even trying.

Ironically, that is because Brian was losing his hearing on that tour. I think he did an incredible job considering he was basically hitting the notes by muscle memory.

Love this band, but wow. ‘New chapter’ ‘New show’ you cant charge fans $$ and play the exact same show from the last 3 years whilst promoting otherwise. Utterly disappointed. Seriously how hard is to even open the show with a different song??

The lack of comments on this thread seem to indicate the lack of interest this band generates from the ‘hard core’  fans. Very very sad.

Just watched what Fox had on last night  "Super Bowl Music Fest" - basically an hour and it was pretty much what you'd expect from a SuperBowl progam -
All over the place, J-Lo, Shakira interviews, Snoop playing - they just tried to squeeze as much music related content as possible into an hour

As for GNR - They showed one song - Sweet Child
It was good.

Slash completely owned the stage. His sound was pitch perfect and his solo was just ridiculously good.
Rest of the band was on point - I haven't checked out youtube for other clips but it sounded really strong all together and yeah - the crowd was dancing and into it

As for the main man - he was fine. The voice had a little of the helium thing and lacked the power to go with Slash but there were moments that were great and most importantly they came off as a fine tuned band jamming out and having fun. Always thought the running around takes away from the power of the voice but whatever works.

To be fair, the «next chapter» and «new show» stuff is how they’re marketing the summer European shows. Not the current ones.

I’m sure the networks selected the song and if that’s the case, they’re going to pick the most well known song. Some corporate big wig isn’t going to listen to that whole concert and try to determine where they sounded the best.

Exactly! So we are expected to believe that in the next month the band are going to rehearse a complete different show. Which is likely, the past few months could have been 'off time' for the band. And they haven't gotten together to yet rehearse anything new, but will use this month to do so. This is being positive, but for anyone using the Miami show as an indicator of what to expect would be disappointed if they have seen this show before and are purchasing tickets.

The lack of comments on this thread seem to indicate the lack of interest this band generates from the ‘hard core’  fans. Very very sad.

Or maybe because, you know, nobody was considering this part of the New Chapter tour that starts in March? Also, they brought out You're Crazy for the first time with Slash and Duff.

Back on topic, I thought the performance was actually pretty damn good for a modern day SCOM. It's one of Axl's weakest songs these days so I get the feeling the band had no input and maybe even didn't know which song would be chosen before hand so they could give a little extra care to it. Regardless, I think he sounded pretty damn good in the verses, obviously not that powerful but his tone was not Mickey either. Not as good in the chorus, but good in the outro. All the shitty comments on Twitter are just the usual assholes being assholes.

I liked that show.  Before it seemed like they were speeding their way through the show.  This one seemed to flow at a speed that allowed you time to be drawn in.  Wasn't holding on so tight to my mouse, lol.  Hope that's an indicator of future shows.

Interesting, what do you mean by this? The tempo of the songs? I didn't really notice.

Slash ‘s  solo was very good, frank keeps on rushing (it’s almost unbelievable after 4 years with this lineup) axl is out of breath but at least his clean voice in scom works well, one of the few songs imho. The choice of the song was correct imho

They all have a tendency to rush; Slash does it on solos, Axl does it often with Shadow, and Frank in general.

I’m sure the networks selected the song and if that’s the case, they’re going to pick the most well known song. Some corporate big wig isn’t going to listen to that whole concert and try to determine where they sounded the best.

The thing is, a band like GNR could have absolutely dictated to the network what song they wanted shown (and obviously they know where they sound the best). And yet, it seems like they chose not to. Weird.

Well, what do we mean by "entirely new show"? Do we mean a new stage? (it did look different to me) New songs? Just because they didn't play new songs at this show doesn't mean they haven't been rehearsing them already. They could have been rehearsing new stuff for the past two months. Just because changes haven't debuted yet doesn't mean they haven't been worked on and must be crammed in the next month.

It's not corny. It's reality.

Sometimes we forget that things aren't always as bad as they are portrayed.

Not to sound corny or anything, but I am super thankful that since 2016 I've gotten to see GNR w/ Slash and Duff at least once a year, usually twice.

Just as simple as that.

I had a blast at both of my shows.  Told anyone that asked they were awesome.

It's no doubt a great night out.

This is very true we could go back to the Wonder Years of 94-02 and then 03 to - what like 08 when they started to tour a little more and sporadically thru the early 2010s

Great pics, jarmo!

That last one of Slash mid jump is FUCKING stellar.  I'd order a poster sized print of that and hang it on my wall!

There's been a couple I've wanted in the past too - ones of shows I was at mainly.

I wonder if this might be a possibility....if there's a commercial issue, perhaps that could be navigated by doing it at cost price or accepting charity donations rather than payment?
