Title: Reese's Peanut Butter Cup with Pretzels
Post by: cineater on June 14, 2021, 07:05:31 PM
Not enough salt on the pretzels to make it sweet and salty.  Not that I wanted a soggy pretzel but it's really crunchy when you do get a pretzel piece.

This is not an improvement on the Peanut Butter cup if you ask me.  I'm wondering who thought we could love these more anyway.  :hihi:

Coke and pretzels if you want sweet and salty.  Not chocolate and peanut butter.

I agree with both assessments.  The prepackaged versions just....aren't great.

So...here's the right way to do it:

Preheat your oven on 250 F/ 120C

Lay out a layer of pretzel minis on a baking sheet.

put one mini peanut butter cup on each pretzel (I prefer the dark chocolate ones).

Put in the oven for literally a minute or two, til the cups get melty.

Take em out of the oven to cool. If you're feeling super fancy, while they're still a bit melty, you can push a reeces pieces into each peanut butter cup.  I'd leave them for at least 30 minutes (still a bit melty) but if you really want them to set, give them an hour or so (like they'll last that long on the counter...LOL).

Trust me, these things are like crack

I'm just going to blame this sudden urge for chocolate on GNR.  They're starting the tour in Hershey!  I could be in real trouble if someday they decide to start it in Lynchburg, Tennessee.   :hihi:

Kit Kat Key Lime Pie.  This is pretty good.  I'm a lime junkie to begin with.  Tastes just like Key Lime.  Hurry, limited edition.

Never though of that but I do occasionally like hot peanut butter.  I do have the skill for roasting the perfect marshmallow.

Halloween candy is out.  I can buy a whole bag of Peanut Butter cups for almost the same price as two, two packs.  The great thing about that is I save money and it's way too early to buy Halloween candy so I'll just have to eat the whole bag.  :D

They have peanut butter cups with green bottoms for Halloween.  Not sure if it's suppose to have a minty taste, might have covid, but I didn't taste it and I sampled a whole bag.   :hihi:  I blame GNR, it was a long show.

The Reese's float in the Rose Parade was a little scary.  The Fighting Cuppie looks like something you need to call the Ghostbusters for.  :hihi:

New peanut butter cups for Christmas.  Giving them a try.

The Christmas Tree shape, excellent.  Lots of peanut butter in them.

The Santas, leave you a little flat.   :hihi:  They are flat, very little peanut butter but still good.

The Nutcrackers, I would say about a 50/50 ratio between the chocolate and the peanut butter.  One biters.

The White Christmas Tree, more like a fudge taste.  Has the most calories, not that anybody cares but they do make that obvious on the package.  :hihi:

Still need to check out the bells.

Ding, dong, gone.  I didn't find the Jingle Ones but I did find 3 pounds.   :hihi:  There's always next year.  :D

Reese's Popcorn   ???  Are they on drugs?  :hihi:

I didn't find a heart shaped peanut butter cup.  Surely they make them for Valentine's Day.  I've decided to extend my holiday taste testing to the rest of the holidays.  They should have some Easter shapes.

Didn't find any St Patrick Day shapes so onto the Easter ones.

Little Bunnies, more chocolate than peanut butter.  Not a bunny shape but a weird little one is in the mold for the chocolate.  Easter Egg shape, equal amounts of chocolate and peanut butter.  The peanut butter isn't as light and fluffy as it is in the cups.  Comes in solid colors and tie dye.  Not really feeling it.

Christmas tree is still in the lead for most favorite.  I don't think they do shapes again until Halloween.

White Eggs, white creme chocolate and peanut butter filling.  Good stuff, the peanut butter filling is light and fluffy.  I'm a fan of white chocolate and can go either way with the white or dark.

They had one with a marshmallow/peanut butter filling but I wasn't feeling that today.  I'll grab it later.  Still a long way to Easter.

Oh I never should have told people I was doing the challenge.  Today somebody gave me one.  I think it might be for St Patrick's Day by the design on the package.  Might have been a caramel one.  It was one of those passing things when I was busy and I just popped it in my mouth.

You tell folks you're doing shit like that and they start to give you stuff.  How I ended up with everything flamingo.  Er, I don't really like flamingos.  At one time I got a kick out of covering people's yards in flamingos but I'm over that and I'm over the whole covering people's yards in other shit too.  Stop giving me shit!

But back to the peanut butter challenge, 6 pounds folks.  Between that and the girl scout cookies, 6 fucking pounds.  The extra luggage and the overdose on sugar, I'm done until Halloween.  I'm onto squash.  Don't tell anybody.  I'm going to be done with it by the time they start harvesting it from their gardens.

While back I got Girl Scout mint chocolate pretzels at Costco.  Now they don't have them.  :nervous:

Dairy Queen does milk shakes in Girl Scout cookie flavors during the summer.  Probably a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup one too.  I like milk shakes.  I might have to make that a new challenge, try all the milk shake and ice cream products that come in the Reese's  flavor.   8)

I was given, for my "research", ZERO sugar Reese's Peanut Butter cups.  :-\  I'm horrified.  I haven't tried them yet.  I don't think I want too.   :hihi:  Add, never tell people you put on 6 pounds eating sugar.  Stop helping me!

Zero Sugar is okay.  Whatever they used to make the sugar taste, out flavors the peanut butter.  I'd need a whole bag of those to really get a taste for it.

I was thinking that too.  I need to look at the bag to see what's in there.

They are giving away $25,000.  I can eat a few more peanut butter cups so I can get an entry code.  I think it's for a college scholarship.  I hope if I win I can put that in my grandson's name.  Probably should of read the rules.  Okay fine, it was just an excuse to buy a peanut butter cup at the registry but I did follow through and enter the contest.   :hihi:

I'm walking through the store today, see a big patch of Reese's orange, must be the Reese's peanut butter cup display.  Or that's where my mind went.  Nope, black woman in orange jogging suit.   :hihi:

Hershey has jumped in on the taste test opinion.  They want to know if you like it creamy or crunchy.  Creamy is creaming crunchy.

You can enter your vote here: https://www.hersheyland.com/reeses/creamy-vs-crunchy.html?utm_campaign=email_HSYApril123&utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Make_it_Creamy&deliveryName=HSY_ENT_APR1_V2SLT_041723

If you're voting for crunchy just ignore me.   :hihi:

The Halloween shapes are out.  I'm so excited!  :D

We have white chocolate, Ghosts.  Peanut butter enrobed in white cream.  Pretty good, coming in at 180 calories.    Lets not forget the weight gain the last time I did this taste testing.   :hihi:  I'm a junkie.

We have the chocolates ones in bats and pumpkins.  And fuck me, I grabbed a package of assorted ones out of the bin but didn't look at it.  It's just regular peanut butter cups.  I did have two individual packages of the different shapes and put it back for the mixed bag, managing the weight gain.  So much for controlling the number of peanut butter cups I have on hand, I have an extra package.  I'll be back at the store before they sell out.  It's still early.

Hasn't even been a day and there's only 2 chocolate peanut butter cups left and a half a bag of the white chocolate.  Guess we know which way I'm going to weigh in.   :hihi:

A coke, a bag of beef jerky and a bag of peanut butter cups.  Life is good.  :D

Add 8 more peanut butter cups to the group.  I went to Aldi and it's price efficent to by the 8 pack instead of just the two pack.  Yeah I know there's something wrong with that thinking when you're looking at calories, empty calories to boot.  But it's all over now, ate my last one.  It's peanut butter cup withdrawal.   :crying:

No reason to go to Walmart and peanut butter cups are not enough of a draw to get me up to that madhouse.  I will get to taste the other ones before they disappear.  I have a scheduled trip to Target on the 4th.  Might not have any but I will score again.  :hihi:

Junkie thinking.

So not fair.  I have to run in the grocery store to get my flu shot at the pharmacy.  Have to go right down the isle with all the Halloween candy and there are the peanut butter Halloween shapes.  No, I'm out and about all day.  They will melt in the car or I have to eat the whole bag.  And I have to pass back through that isle leaving.   :hihi:  I did not cave but I wanted too.

Let's get back to this.  Grabbed a bag of the assorted shapes.  Can't rule out maybe they melted some but, the shape of the pumpkin, bat and ghost isn't very well defined, more like a blob.  The chocolate is thinner than a regular peanut butter cup.  It melts with the heat of your fingers.  The chocolate to peanut butter ratio is off, more peanut butter than chocolate.  Coming in at 170 calories.  I'll need to get another bag to recheck the shapes.  The white chocolate shape was good.  Don't get me wrong, they are still good.

So I was talking with Benny at pinball last night.  We both have opinions about the holiday peanut butter cups.  Told him the different designs I found online.  He's going hunting for them and will bring them next week for us to try.   :hihi:
