Title: Do you enjoy how Slash plays on Chinese Democracy tracks live?
Post by: Carlos Gunner on January 06, 2023, 06:24:53 PM
I like what I heard and saw in Prostitute, and I like the intro of Better.
I did not enjoy his participation in Madagascar,  TWAT, and I did not see much more.

Personally, no. I prefer the takes that Finck, Bucket and Bumble did. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the Chinese tracks performed live by the band now because I do.

Yes, and I've been looking forward to Street of Dreams with this lineup, but he doesn't play the lead solo.  :(

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I think his version of CD itself isn't that great, or maybe it's the lack of a third guitar? I really enjoy how he did TWAT and Prostitute. Catcher is here and there, think it could be better.

What I'd really like to see them do is an extended If The World like they did on the Canadian tour in 2010, I think he'd kill that.

I've no issues with how he wants to incorporate his own spin on those songs. I know I and others have said this before but I'm more bothered about the awful sound of his tone/mix or whatever you want to call his 'current' sound. Sounds like he's asked a stranger to set up his rig/amps. Doesn't sound like that recognizable Slash sound at all. Appreciate times change but change it for the better.

Hit the nail on the head.

On top of that, he just improvises everything. He's at his best when he sits down and works something out.

And I say that as the biggest Slash fanboy there is. I never thought I'd say that somebody else (Fortus) is overshadowing Slash's solos in melody, feel and tone.

Prostitute - I love it. Slash's style fits the solos very well . I really wanna see it live someday.
Madagascar - Really good, i really like what he adds.
There Was A Time - The only solo where Slash plays ''like on the record'' and does a fine job on it.
Sorry - I dig it.
Chinese Democracy - Almost like the original but with a Slash twist. Its good.
Street Of Dreams - Decent.
Catcher - Hit and miss
Better - Hit and miss
This I Love - Hit and miss.

'There Was A Time' is my favorite CD tune.  One of my favorite GNR tunes, overall, actually.

Was dying to hear Slash on it.  Frankly...I didn't love it.  Doesn't help that Axl really struggles with it live.

yes, but most part of the time when I think wow that's great...it's Richard playing.  :hihi:
