It's better to burn out than to fade away...

« on: June 28, 2004, 04:55:24 PM »

Is anybody else getting a little...not fed up, but bored with the progress of the "new" GN'R?  Whereas the Guns N' Roses section used to be the very first place I visited at this message board, now I find myself spending more time at "The Jungle" or "Bad Obsession".  The Guns N' Roses section of the board is devoted to the same old tired topics, and I notice myself getting bored with them.  I used to be more interested about Axl's band than Velvet Revolver, but these days I spend more time reading about VR and just listening to classic Guns N' Roses.

I think it started around the time that Buckethead left the band.  He was always my favourite new part of the band, and now that's he's gone, the new Guns N' Roses seems to have lost its coolest part.  I mean, when members of D12 dressed up as GN'R at the MTV Movie Awards, they dressed as Axl, Slash...and Buckethead.  The collapse of the 2002 tour was disappointing, but at least with Buckethead the band still had a cool new element.  Now that Bucket is gone, I don't know if Axl has decided to go on hiatus with the recording of the album again.  Maybe he doesn't even care anymore, but just decides to hole up in his mansion.  It's depressing waiting for this 40-year old millionaire to get his life together.

All I can say is, thank God for Velvet Revolver and the Hollywood Rose.  With these we have new quasi-GN'R product to keep us busy talking about something new.  Of course, I suppose that even Axl's band is at this point no more Guns N' Roses than VR or Hollywood Rose except in name.  But yeah, right now I don't even believe that Axl is working on Chinese Democracy at all for the time being.  Even he must be bored with himself by this point.  It took him years to get out for the 2002 tour, and I think it'll take him the same amount of time for him to prepare himself for a tour promoting a new album.

Hey, he has "2 or 3 albums" ready to go. It shouldn't be too hard for him to release one.  Roll Eyes

U echoed my thoughts exactly

I am fed up with all this - with the same damn topics, with the never ending delay - Axl couldn't even respond to those questions

I know exactly what u mean about newgnr losing its sparkles without Buckethead - i quickly warmed to him and have bought a few of his albums and am deeply impressed - with him and Axl toegther i had no doubts as to what GNR could do - with him gone, i've lost a lot of that optimism

But rather than be frustrated i'd much rather turn our collective energy into something more useful - between us we surely have some new topics to discuss - something to shorten the wait?

Oh for Christ's sake, who cares.

I've long abandoned 'waiting' for anything. I just enjoy the rest of this board and to be fair I don't give a shit how long it takes anymore because I'm not 'waiting' for anything.

When it happens, it happens. I know enough about Axl to know it will come out sooner or later.

In the mean time, God bless you all for being here. ok

Well, to tell you the truth, I don't really think of myself as "waiting" for Chinese Democracy because I'm perfectly happy listening to old GN'R, I enjoy Velvet Revolver, and, perhaps most importantly, it doesn't look like the album will ever come out at the moment.  This isn't like Christmas or summer vacation, where you have a set date and find yourself counting down to it eagerly.  Chinese Democracy is something different.  It's more like this distant thing in the future that you think about, but don't know when it'll happen.  It's like getting married.  You figure it'll happen eventually, but you don't know anything about it.  You still sometimes think about it, though.

What I was trying to say in my post is that while there's been plenty of cause for good cheer among GN'R fans lately - Velvet Revolver, the Hollywood Rose album, the Greatest Hits album selling lots and proving the band is still popular - the actual band itself, or at least Axl's version of Guns N' Roses, has been in my thoughts less and less.  It's like, with all these sideshows happening, and so little happening on the main front, I'm beginning to get bored with the new GN'R and be more concerned with VR and Hollywood Rose.  I find myself spending more time on the other message boards on this site and less on the purely Guns N' Roses one.

Izzy, I totally agree with you, but I have to admit I'm finding it harder and harder to find topics about Axl's version of Guns N' Roses.  But you're right, it's not impossible.  After all, when there's been a thread about Axl's dental history, you know that there are still plenty of stones left to be overturned.

Velvet Revolver have bored me. I don't think they are making the wait for CD any easier, in fact it's probably been harder because they have slammed axl at very chance possible.

I feel the same damn way, what in the hell could Axl be doing ? Not only can I not rationalize an artist being on hiatus for 10 years but also how could he at least not keep us updated? Ahh hell Im just frustrated as sh*t cause I know no matter what ill keep waiting.

He's lost concept of reality. He doesnt know much about the world going on around him. and He needs to realise if he wants to tour arenas he is gonna need a co-headliner to fill the arenas up.

IE what metallica did last summer.

good going! That did not take too long, vr vs gnr. If vr has bored you, then new gnr has put you into a coma!

similar thoughts with mattman and killingvector.

I was very excited with new gnr and 2002 tour. But Since Buckethead left i lost a lot of inner excitement and happiness with new GNR. When Buckethead left and Rio was cancelled i found myself spending more time in VR forum waiting for sth special.

When i finally listened to contraband i was mega pissed off. It's a good album that i enjoy but in no way it fills my gap since the split of GNR. Madagascar, Blues seem to reall satisfy me but i am too bored that they are bootlegs and buckethead gone.

VR Didn't ease the waiting. It made it worse cause i am not satisfied. Hollywood rose also didn't ease it also cause it was Axl's voice again and i need more!!!

Now i my main priority are again the GNR boards but it looks like most of us are all like beaten dogs. Not much of inner interest to make interesting discussions about new GNR after all the false hopes.

Now the waiting is sth different. It is like sth sweet in the future as mattman wrote. One day i hope it will come but it seems distant and like a dream. The only thing i know is a need it.

But to be honest with you i am not sure that it will be better for me to know for Fact that Axl/GNR are over. I prefer to live in this dream like illusional world cause GNR is a big part of myself. I don't want to admit that it is over. Maybe some of you feel the same.

I only hope one day the CD will be released and i prefer to stay with that hope. This hope is one of the things that gives me support in this daily life.

And as someone said if Axl is not able to tour i don't really care. I just need the goddamn CD with Buckethead parts in. I just need the
studio versions of the Blues and Madagascar.

Also i know that the board is not very interesting now but i stiill want it open in whatever form. It feels like family here.

A big Thanks to jarmo and all of you for this board.

Contraband has really satisfied my need for hard rock.  Sucketrain Blues is the exactly the type of song I've been waiting for.  I have been visiting the VR forum, because every GNR topic has been beat to death.

I am sure the Behind the Music should trigger some good talk for the GNR section when it is aired.
