Don't you think that you need somebody?

« on: March 04, 2005, 01:53:38 AM »

So I spent the last eight months without online access.? It was hell.? I gotta say I am pretty sick of seeing Motley Crue on magazine covers!? Come on Axl, blow them out of the water!

Two questions:
1) In a recent issue of Guitar Legends, Slash talks about a song he recorded with Duff, Izzy and a hired drummer for a Les Paul tribute album that never came out.? (Izzy sang it.)? This was around the time of UYI1+2...? ? Does anyone remember the name of the song he mentioned and if it ever was leaked or released after all?

2) In the last eight months, has any news been given about whether GNR will hire a new third guitarist or whether they will try it with two?

Yeah, I was curious about that Les Paul song, too.  I think it was called "Burnout" or something.  I doubt the song will ever see the light of day, unfortunately.

And secondly...nothing new.

Came across this....

"The track "Ain't Life Grand" was a song based on a song that was to appear in the Les Paul Tribute album, Burn Out which was never released. SLASH bought back the rights to his song, and it became "Ain't Life Grand". He says it is a really bluesy song. It was played, and SLASH is right!" - Snakepit.org

Sorry to give conflicting info but i'm sure i heard somewhere that the Burnout track was an instrumental version of Ain't Goin Down.

No, I also read somewhere that "Burnout" later bacame "Ain't Life Grand." I had been searching for that track for years until "Ain't Life Grand' finaly came out and Slash mentioned that.

Found this:

Slash: The song "Ain't Life Grand," [is special to me]. There's a story behind this. "Ain't Life Grand" is a song that I penned for Les Paul. I did it with Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, Kenny Aronoff and Duff McKagan. We recorded this song and it was supposed to be on a Les Paul tribute record. Time went by and all of a sudden I went 'What ever happened with that tune?' It was called "Burn Out" back then. Les was really sick and I thought Warner Bros is just waiting for him to croak so they can really capitalize on this record, so I bought the song back. I had the music and the exact same arrangement that we do, so me and Rod sat down one night in the studio and we created this song, "Ain't Life Grand" to the already more-or-less existing music. Then the horns came into it and [created] the whole vision of what the song was supposed to sound like. That, to me, seems really special because it was a conglomeration of the entire band doing this thing.
