I forget who said, but some guy from some band did (one of the Gallagher's is coming to mind) That Guns N' Roses were just guys dressing like Aerosmith and playing Stones songs. They weren't so great.

That's what he said.....not me.

In terms of attitude and attracting tabloid controversy, Oasis are my pick
QOTSA also have that bad-ass rock n roll vibe

But this thread further illustrates that no one has come close to capturing  what Guns had when they burst on the scene

I'll get shit for this but when Limp Bizkit came in '99-'00 I thought they had many similarites with GN'R. Both bands just came and made a big hysteria in a very short time.
Radios, Tvs, magazines was full of them and both rockers and pop-fans listened to them.
Both bands had two memorable members: an egocentric singer whose dress somehow became the trademark of the band (bandana, redcap), teenage girls loved the singer but there was also many fans who loved the band's music but hated the frontman. And a guitarist who get recognition even from people who hated the band's music.

I can see where you're coming from. If people are going to bash you for your comment, why care?

The Datsuns remind me of GnR a lot, because, they went out in to the industry with a classic 70's good old RnR vibe when 95% of every other band at the time sucked ass. I'm just waitin for The Datsuns to make it HUGE! And I firmly believe they will cos they've got what it takes.
