I wouldn't put any money on the origional line up performing, but you never know. I bet that 6 years ago nobody would have thought that Izzy would play with GnR ever again, but he has done, it it in a long time, anything could happen! Who knows, maybe we'll even have ChinDem 1,2 and 3!!

This is funny, because I had this same conversation with a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago.  Someone (put your fanatacism aside, because I did) give me a good argument why Gn'R should be in the Hall of Fame.  I'm being serious - I want facts, not just "Are you crazy man?  They changed rock n' roll!"  That's not good enough.  Tell me WHY.

Personally I dont care much about the HOF, even in sports.  I think it's more of shine of favorites then a crowning achievement.  And my example would be Pete Rose, yes he bet on baseball ... as a manager.  Should he be allowed to manage again ... No.  but does he deserve to be in the HOF, absolutely.  Is he ever going to be in the HOF ... who knows?  With GNR what line-up, obviously no one would know GNR if it wasnt for the original band, so as a tribute to them they do deserve to be inducted in the HOF, but if someone has to be there then it should be Axl alone or with the new band because they are the band now.

Released the defining rock album of an entire decade and created no fewer than 5 hits that are immediately recognizable classics that are still beloved world wide 15 to 20 years after their release.  They've sold over 85 million records despite only releasing 3 real studio albums.  They have everything that's needed to get there.  The music, the sales, and the notoriety.  There are bands and individuals in the Hall who haven't done as much as GnR, I can't think of a good reason why they shouldn't be inducted, particularly after Chinese Democracy is released and makes history  hihi

I am 100% against the Rock an Roll Hall Of Fame, Im still pissed Ozzy finally let himself in, there is no way GNR should ever allow themselves to be inducted into the Rock an Roll Hall Of Fame smoking

?A wise man once said : "I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WOULD HAVE ME AS A MEMBER."

 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?- Groucho Marx

?rant Isn't Rock N' Roll supposed be ANTI-Establishment?!?!? Why the fuck is there a hall dedicated to something that is completely against what the music stands for? ?That being "Fuck you! We stand against society and it's rules!"
Hence!-No pivotal fuckin' role in fitting in with the NORM!!

?Has anyone ever stopped to think of this??? ?no

I say FUCK Cleveland and it's Hall. Say NO to ANY Induction!!

THAT....would be par for the course in what GN'R stands for. Weren't they "the most dangerous band in the world" at one point??? Continue with that mantra. I think the 2002 riots proved that! ?yes

?Accept nothing!!! LONG LIVE ROCK!!? ?beer

Interesting that you'd ask this question cause speaking with music fans in general it's seems split if GnR should be in the HOF. I think they should be. Appetite was released in an age of big hair and songs about hot chicks with relatively no substance. GnR made songs about the bad side of life when noone would dare touch those subjects. Slash played riffs that caught your attention no matter what kind of music you liked. They became a mainstream band that had nothing mainstream about them. They?re style (what style) was all over the place. no fruity dancing, no make-up(well after jungle), no hot chicks stripping on a car hood. They let the music speak for itself. With the Illusions they tried something noone would even think of trying releasing 2 separate cd's at one time.(most bands would puss out and make a double album but GnR said hey buy 1 if you want we know it's good music and you will figure that out soon enough.) They grew larger then life and yes drugs and egos got the best of them but one thing was for sure the music would stand the test of time. You don't hear many if any 80's metal bands anymore and when you do you think how the hell did I listen to this garbage. My opinion is music thats still relevant is music deserving of HOF status and we all know GnR stood the test of time.

Oh and fucking Prince is in there so if that pansy is gonna be in there GnR has to be.

Hey ShotgunBlues1978 and IZZYDAMAN, thanks for your arguments.  Both were done responsibly and made some great points.

I agree with all of what you said.  The only thing that worries me is that they were around for such a short time (I'm not including now, until (unless?) CD is released.  Then I might change my mind on this.

I was looking at the list of inductees the other day, and most are pretty impressive.  There were only 4 or 5 bands or people who I didn't think deserved to be in there.

I do believe GNR will be inducted, but I have a hard time believing that they will be inducted in their first year of eligibility.

The Rock Hall, fortunately, has been selective in who they let in.  The short lifespan of the original GnR will be held against them perhaps but I think the accomplishments are enough.  Especially if Chinese Democracy turns out to be a great album which from what I've heard in no doubt will be.  But there are few bands that have created so many songs that are instantly recognizable and distinct.  You think about it, you can play the first 2 or 3 seconds of WTTJ, Paradise City, SCOM, November Rain and even people who aren't GnR fans would be able to immediately identify them.  The same could be said for other songs like Patience and Don't Cry.  The other thing about GnR that will help them is that their music doesn't sound dated.  A lot of 80s music, be it rock or pop hits, sounds dated and borderline ridiculous and people like it due to nostalgia and the endearing corniness of it, Def Leppard for example.  With GnR you don't really get that vibe.  There are exceptions, of course, some songs like Don't Cry which I still think is a great song but it does have that distinct 80s or early 90s hair band ballad vibe, Think About You, Anything Goes.  But by and large Guns' old material has aged very, very well, it has a timeless quality that no big time rock band from the same time can match.  That's what I think sets them apart from their contemporaries and gets them in

When Chinese Democracy is released, it will be history in the making.  The lineup of the band has been completely reconstructed, but it might well be the biggest and most important rock release of the new millenium.  If Chinese Democracy turns out to be a great album and is a runaway success, it will be a truly remarkable accomplishment and I'm nothing but encouraged by the songs we've heard, and we haven't even heard a completed, final release quality recording of any of them

The only way I see the current lineup being inducted is if "Chinese Democracy" sells well and they consistantly release successful albums from now until 2012.

If not, don't count on it.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is based on recorded, published material.

As of yet, the current lineup hasn't provided any.
