From Metal Underground

New Interview With Izzy:
We recently sent a couple of questions to Izzy Stradlin and heres what he had to say:

Q. Hows life treating you at the moment?

Izzy: Life is good at the moment, I am alive.

Q. Last time we caught up you recommended the Detroit Cobras. Who will you be recommending this time?

Izzy: I been drumming a lot lately w/Toots and the Maytals Greatest Hits. One of my favorite alltime cd`s......

Q. You recently released 4 albums on iTunes (Ride On, River, On Down The Road, Like A Dog). Do you see the internet being an important part of your musics future or are you still a CD/cassette/vinyl man at heart?

Izzy: The future looks a bit digital at this point in time but we will have to wait and see.... They are closing down the "Tower Records" stores in America as we speak and it feels like a big hit to the whole system. It was a rock monument......no mas!?

Q: Obviously a lot of fans would like to ask various questions on the GnR tour. Anything you feel comfortable telling us would be appreciated...how it came about, your reaction to getting that first telephone call inviting you, any future plans with the band....?

Izzy: I spent my summer vacation touring w /Axl`s new gnr and had some fun playin live again. Amazing fans out there.... it's hard to believe at times.fantastic! GNR tour: Axl and I connected via cell phone this year, I stopped bye to see if he looked as old as he might be............ Same age as myself, you know and he looked great! It was nice to reconnect with an old friend/war buddy/fellow musician. I told him later I'd like to join the fun in some way and he said I was welcome to come and play something, so I did! Took me about 3 weeks to recover from the 6 weeks of touring!!!!

Q: Finally, everytime we catch up we ask the obligatory "do you have any plans for a solo tour anytime/place?". We thought we would be slightly more vague this time and throw you the following: "Any cool plans for the future?"

Izzy: I will let you know if any future stuff comes up....today I am just happy to finally have my last 10 years of solo work made available [thru "i tunes"] to people who may have an interest....... .over and out, Izzy

Thanks for posting this, FM.

You know it's weird, I saw Izzy with GNR back in the day and also saw him solo in London, and had anyone asked me before this summer's tour whether I was hoping to see him play on stage with Axl/GNR again, I wouldn't have had any strong feelings either way.

During the 02 tour it really felt strange looking at the stage and not seeing Slash and Duff either side of Axl (and to a lesser extent, Izzy too), but when I saw the band at the Hammerstein Ballroom this year, I was amazed at how tight the band had become and was so moved by the great chemistry between them that I didn't miss any of the old members.  Or so I thought...

However, the moment Izzy walked on stage at Donington and it became apparent that any lingering animosity between him and Axl had been dispelled, I felt myself coming over all unnecessary and quite sentimental.  Thereafter, each time Izzy joined the guys (and especially during the UK part of the tour), it brought an inexplicably warm and fuzzy moment to the show for me, and for some bizarre reason I felt a little proud too.  God knows why really, because it's not like I have any personal connection with either of them, but I think it must have been due to the way that they'd managed to put the bad times of the past behind them and both move on with their lives; eventually getting to this point where they could have fun sharing a stage and making music together again.

Anyway, in a long, rambling kind of way, what I'm trying to say is how happy it makes me to hear that Izzy had a good time on the tour and here's hoping that I'll see him again with GNR some time in the future.

Oh, and not being in the first flush of youth myself anymore, I can fully appreciate his comment about needing several weeks to recover;  I spent a week feeling like my knees had been put on back to front!   Grin

This article has been around since last September - October. It was a good read though. It would be great to have Izzy back in the band !!   yes

Seriously no bashing here, but Izzy one day will be the link that puts together "The Reunion" (with Matt I hope) but not for a another 10 years or so. but first I want to see GNR06 come into full bloom!

I don't think Izzy reallly ever had any real bad feelings toward Axl or the rest of the band. I think all that was ever really stated was that he and Axl had some disagreements (but who doesnt) and the fact that he did not like touring was his reasons for parting ways. In my book though, he will always be a welcomed addition.? ? ok
