I doubt they have a fixed fee as such. It will be operating expenses plus a cut from the sales of the song. Ergo, with big names, the album might sell better, leading to profits all around.

Kurt was a terrible singer.

But a fantastic frontman. Not everyone could be so mesmerising whilst standing still... that takes something special.

The voice of a generation.  Kurt was so far beyond a musician, he is on the level of Henrdrix, Morrison etc... talking about or analyzing his musical ability is almost funny considering how influential a person he was.  Much more than a front man.  Dude changed the world.

talk about off topic. I just did an honours thesis on grunge. I rkn kurt was a bit of a self-loving faker. So is Scott Wieland, although he is much much more fake than Kurt. Pearl jam pwns nirvana. Eddie is 100% real.

You did an honors thesis on grunge and came to the conclusion that Pearl Jam was better and more real than Nirvana?  Did you actually listen to any of the music?   hihi

I know they said they wanted to get heavier with the new record, which i totally encourage.  Corey Taylor was rumored a while back, maybe they should drop the VR name and work on a project with him...

hope u didn't get an A on that dude.

Kurt wasn't real? Fuckin guy blew his head off....... It doesn't get much more real than that. Eddie is still alive and and doing great.

I think Kurt was one of the realest dudes of all time. Overrated? Sure a little, but u can't say the guy wasn't authentic and the real thing.

Weiland is one of the Top 20 living frontmen. Definitely Top 5 of his time( being 1980s to now.) He's lived through stuff that has killed other people(knocks on wood). He has an amazing catalog of music, and an image and aura that other singers wish they had.   VR was great, but their time has passed.   I wish they would just lay it to rest, and maybe resurrect it later instead of trying hold onto it and save face.  Slash doesn't even need VR either.  He has a solid career with Myles touring and playing all his songs.   Duff is also very active.

Seriously who is a better singer/frontman than Weiland that is ALIVE?  Only ones I can think of are: Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, Neil Young, David Bowie, Lou Reed, and maybe a few others.   And these people are all from an earlier time.  Singers of the last 25 years... I can hardly think of any.   Only a couple that I would consider equal like Josh Homme or Axl.

ha. I did get an A actually!! PM if you want to read, I address all these issues. Watch PJ Black @ Pinkpop vs Any Nirvana performance. Kurt got lost in the image he created, and lost any remnants of authenticity when he became famous. And, anyway, he never used his music like Eddie did; moulded around an emotional outlet - see youtube vid of Black at PinkPop. Kurt just wrote angry music within pop conventions; which is why it is so much more popular, but also so much less authentic. So much literature on this shit.

Sorry Falcon, i'm done now!

As much as you people keep talking down VR, I seriously think a frontman is coming soon. They've promised way too many times for them not to actually intend to find one. They'd be way more vague about it. The singer of my b and just sent in an audition tape:P

Eddie Vedder and Steven Tyler are two glaringly obvious ones you've missed. Corey Taylor is another who is miles ahead of Weiland.

I'll agree with you on Tyler, but not on Eddie Vedder or Corey Taylor.   I think Pearl Jam and Slipknot are way overrated, and I would put STP above them both.   Even Stone Sour, who might be popular at the moment still can't go album for album with STP.  But that's just my opinion.

Wait a minute..... Corey Taylor over Scott.....

 rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl

I had to read that three times to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

and no, today, like right now, not going by career achievement awards, Scott is even better Than Tyler.

Goin by right now, as in TODAY, like i said, not career achievement awards, but just stacking up it today, Scott trails only Axl, maybe Bono *Although I don't like him* and he and Vedder are neck and neck although I prefer Scott.

The only frontman they could get right now better than Scott is Axl and that ain't happening.

You guys are all fucking nuts. What's with the frontman dick comparo? From a VR perspective, a frontman who's better than Scott would be someone who does not have substance abuse issues, has great pipes, can write songs around Slash / Duff / Dave's riffs (and come up with good independent songs), good stage presence and more importantly gets along well with everyone in terms of chemistry. That person could be anybody.

Looking at the synergy Slash has with someone like Andrew Stockdale, it could very well be someone younger and that no one's heard of. Actually, I think that would be better: Someone unknown, who was a fan of Guns growing up. At least that way the ego issues are much lesser than with one of the established frontmen. Finding such a person of course is the problem...

Yeah I would definitely go with Corey over Scott, way more of a diverse singer as well.  Only counting bands that came out  a little before or after STP, i can think of a bunch of better front men. Axl Rose, Phil Anselmo, Corey Taylor, Gerard Way, M . Shadows, Zakk Wylde, Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Manson, Trent Reznor, are  first guys that come to mind.  I like Scott Weiland too, Im not even trying to bash him, but all of those guys are better.

 confused ... Grin

And I'm not trying to suck Scott off, either, but I think he is better than all of the people you mentioned (except Kurt...and Axl  Wink

And so you don't think I'm a totally biased, Scott can obviously be a drunk and has fucked up shows, and can be too eccentric at times, and is not even what he was 5 or 10 years ago, but I think even with all that, he is still one of the best.  He has an aura that none of these singers have.  I just think there are a lot of ppl who just try to discredit Scott which is bullshit.

I edited this to not bash any of the singers mentioned.
