"This year, judging by who is headlining Bonnaroo, Primavera Sound and Coachella, the Lolla 2016 headliners will likely include some combination of LCD Soundsystem, Pearl Jam, Guns N' Roses, Calvin Harris and Radiohead (who was recently announced as a headliner of Lollapalooza Berlin). We'll keep you posted."

That would kill the whole July 4th weekend talk. Lolla has very specific artist requirements regarding how far they have to stay way from Chicago, and how many months before and after.

Are you saying if they play Lollapalooza they would have to agree to not play another show within a certain radius of Chicago inside a specified timeframe?

If Live Nation is promoting the GN'R tour together with AEG wouldn't it be up to themselves?

Soldier Field is as far as I know a Live Nation venue, so is the Lollapalooza festival.

However, if AEG is the sole promoter for the tour, I can understand a radius clause being put into effect for a Lollapalooza appearance.

Exactly, read the following for details, same goes for most major festivals.

Coachella also have this clause which includes bands not allowed to play in LA around the festival dates.

I read on wikipedia that since AEG produces both Coachella and runs Staples Center, Jay-Z was allowed to play a concert in LA while headlining Coachella.

In theory, couldn't it be the case for GN'R at Lollapalooza if the promoter is the same?

Duff has played with Perry Farrell in the past if anyone is looking for a connection. Doesn't Perry run Lollapolooza?

Yes they do have a clause but when Soundgarden reunited and headlined Lolla in 2010, they played a warm up show in Chicago three days before Lolla.
