« on: June 05, 2004, 04:50:56 PM »

Hey everyone, I am in the process of making myself a Best of GNR Live (New tour, 2001-2002).  So I'm just curious which versions of these songs you think are the best versions.  If you can help it would be appreciated.

1. Welcome to the Jungle (  )
2. It's So Easy (  )
3. Mr. Brownstone (  )
4. Live and Let Die (  )
5. Knockin on Heaven's Door (  )
6. Sweet Child O' Mine (  )
7. November Rain (  )
8. Madagascar (I've heard Cleveland??)
9. Chinese Democracy (  )
10. Rhiad and the Bedouins (Osaka I've also heard??)
11. The Blues (Albany??)
12. Oh My God (  )
13. Rocket Queen (  )
14. Nightrain (  )
15. Paradise City (  )

Thanks

yeah, now that they've been around for 4 or 5 years, they should come out with a Greatest Hits Album, featuring, 3 unreleased songs : maddie, bluez and shinese.

Hmm..
I can say my opinion on some of the songs:

4. Live & let die: Albany 2002!!  yes Great screams, even better than on the UYI tour! ok
5. Knockin on heavens door: I like the RIR 3 version.. Beautiful!
9. Chinese Democracy: The Boston version (I think).
12. Oh my god: RIR 3.

Well, that's my opinion....  Wink

1. Welcome to the Jungle (Boston)
2. It's So Easy (Boston)
3. Mr. Brownstone (Cleveland)
4. Live and Let Die (Pittsburgh - best scream by far)
5. Knockin on Heaven's Door (Boston)
6. Sweet Child O' Mine (RIR3, but the Boston version is good too)
7. November Rain (Boston - or anyone sb with Fortus playing the first solo)
8. Madagascar (Idaho or Tacoma- best guitar mix, altough Axl's voice...)
9. Chinese Democracy (Boston - Axl kickin' some ass)
10. Rhiad and the Bedouins (Osaka - the one that mix audience boot + axl's monitor mix)
11. The Blues (Pittsburgh - best Fortus outro solo)
12. Oh My God (Las Vegas, but RIR3 is soundboard Undecided)
13. Rocket Queen (Idaho - with the funky intro)
14. Nightrain (Boston)
15. Paradise City (RIR3 - the only soundboard version avaliable Sad)

The Blues - best performance of this song has to be at the 11.22.02 - Mellon Arena, Pittsburgh, PA concert. This version of the blues is simply amazing. I love it
Madi - Definitly Pittsburgh again, but in terms of a visual performance there is something about the VMA performance that gets me everytime. Its just so well done even though Axls singing is a bit off! It just looks so god damn good, if they ever do a video for this it needs to be a performance video!
The best bootleg to get is the high quality Boston soundboard. That whole concert is amazing, especially November Rain, its almost as good as the original!

Just my opinion, everyone else probably thinks differently.

the blues---> Rock in Rio 2001, definitely. faster tempo, blues-rock vibe, it's just amazing. amazing Axl's voice and not overproduced like the 2002 tour with tons of keyboards.

Tons of keyboards? It's just Pittman with some synth, is not overproduced. And the sound mix in Rio was terrible!
I dunno how you 2, rale and nesquick, don't like Axl's 2002 voice - he sounded a lot more like the old days.
Anyways:

Madagascar - Pittsburgh (cool mix, buckethead's guitar is clear and loud, aswell finck's)
The Blues - Pittsburgh and Tokyo (see the other topic)
Chinese Democracy - Boston
Rhiad - Pukkelpop
Silkworms - HOB
OMG - HOB

I prefer the more "natural" version of Rio, without tons of keyboard effects, but just piano. and for me the main problem with the 2002 US versions is the tempo: it's boring, too slow. I've never seen "the blues" as a ballad but more as a mid-tempo blues-rock song, with a blues-rock vibe, something like the "Use Your Illusion 2" type of song.

For me a song is like a girl, it's better natural isn't it?

off the top of my head i'd say cleveland soundboard of KOHD is definetly the best version, and Columbus - Chinese Democracy is definetly the best version, WTTJ would probably be Albany even tho i actually think 2001 las vegas was better, NY - Madison Square Garden for November Rain, Cleveland would probably be the best version of Madagascar also
