Democrats force closed-session on Iraq

"WASHINGTON - Democrats forced the Republican-controlled Senate into an unusual closed session Tuesday, questioning intelligence that President Bush used in the run-up to the war in Iraq and accusing Republicans of ignoring the issue. "They have repeatedly chosen to protect the Republican administration rather than get to the bottom of what happened and why," Democratic leader Harry Reid said."

This was part stunt, part frustration.
You're going to see a LOT of this type of stuff over the next year, before the mid terms. The dems are going to do everything they can to keep this administration, and the Republican aprty, in a rucus.
The polls show that many US citizens are almost as ticked at the dems as they are at the repubs and this administration. Why? Because they view the dems as not raising a strenuous enough objection to this administration and the Repub half of the legislature. I think this was, in part, a move to help that perception.
In addition, they have been asking for an investigation for some time (months) and the Repubs WERE stonewalling them. This pretty much forced the Repubs into action as, once the request was made public, refusal to launch the investigation would have left them with some explaining to do....and, at this point, that's the last thing they needed.
If you want to see a pretty good historical depiction of what to expect over the next year, look at what leading up to the '98 midterm elections...where the Repubs painted the dems as a party rife with corruption and abuses of power? Look for the dems to adopt the exact same tactics leading up to the '06 mid terms.
It's gonna be a very interesting year.

While I am glad the Dems are going ahead with this and looking into the matter, I feel that a lot of them are hypocritical. A lot of them voted for the war resolution, and now that the war is going badly, no WMD, erosion or public support, etc, they are saying they were ?misled? which is bullshit. If millions of Americans were against the war from the beginning (it was 1/3 or ? of the population) than these senators should have known better to. They just didn?t want to appear weak by voting against Bush?s bullshit war, and now they are trying to act as though they didn?t play a role by acting complacent. Hats of to Ted Kennedy, Barbra Boxer, and all the other Dems that had the balls to tell Bush, fuck no.

Of on the dems would have had the balls a few years back. Asked harder questions about Iraq THEN. I still think what they did was great though.
