I'm a big fan of this song (I think it's the best song we've heard so far, closely followed by the last three and a half minutes of TWAT).

As a Blues enthusiast I have about thirty bootlegs on my PC of just the song itself, and here is a list of some of my favorites:

House of Blues '01 (fantastic outro with the mighty scream which he's only done two other times since)
Rock in Rio III
Boston '02
Tacoma '02
Pittsburgh '02
Novarock '06
Paris '06
Hammerstein '06 (12th and 14th, powerful vocals towards the end)
Rock am Ring '06 (nice variation of the ending, but his vocals on the beginning are a bit strained)

Do you have any favorite versions of this song? What are they?

My all time favorite used to always be Pittsburgh '02, but now Austria, Burgenland '06 is EASILY my personal favorite.

I strongly urge people to check this version out...extraordinary synth, Axl in fine form, and Frank is dynamite on the drums ok

I actually don't have a copy of that. Would you mind possibly uploading it when you get a chance? I'd really appreciate it.  Smiley

Pittsburgh and Boston, easily. The 06 version doesn't really do it for me. I miss the extreme pitches from 02.

I have to agree, the '06 version is severely lacking. In '02 it was really unique, a blend of old and new. The synth, guitar intro (with the crunchy riffs), and the dazzling outro have been altered in '06. Ron is on an acoustic for the song and at the end he seems to be playing chords and slight scales whereas Buckethead's frenzied pentatonic scales coupled with Pitman's synth, as well as Fortus' power chords, gave it a huge edge. And Axl really used to belt it out then, and I think now he sings it in a lower pitch to maintain a rasp, which often shifts back and forth (Rock am Ring has a cool outro but parts of it are painful to listen to, sounds like he's losing his voice).

I think the Rock Am Ring one from 2006 is the best one. The 2002 ones just doesn't do it for me, I like Axl's rasp and on the RAR one it doesn't matter that his voice breaks in places (though hardly noticable), it adds to the emotion of the song.

Boston 2002 (slower tempo, but PITMAN's synths through all the song  ok )
Rio 2001 (played faster then later in 2002 and 2006, no additional keyboards  Cry  )
HOB 2001 (as said before, that scream just does it....)
NovaRock 2006 (favourite 2k6 performance)
Inland Invasion 2006 (....)

Boston 2002 was primo!

I wished Axl would belt it out a bit more like he did in 2002.
