It's human nature to take a dig at one band to make another look better? I wouldn't call that human nature, I'd call that being an asshole.

And how would you describe your presence on this section of the forum?

I'm giving my opinion on vr, that is what this section is for right? I don't take digs at vr to make any other band look better, I don't need to, unlike most vr fans who take cheap shots at GNR just to make vr look better.

If that's what you're insinuating about me then you need to think again.

It might be worth noting that Entertainment Weekly gave one of the most negative high-profile Contraband reviews.

I like how every time someone reviews VR, they have to take a little dig at GNR. Real classy.

agreed.? it is impossible for anyone to hype this band or this record without bringing Axl into it.? pathetic.

Why's it so hard for people to unerstand why Axl gets mentioned?? Seriously... think really hard about why that might be.?

I promise you, people will mention Slash when they review Chinese Democracy.? I for one, will be able to understand why that is.?

Hmmmm. ....thinking real hard......maybe because, even though VR is an entirely separate band, the fact does remain that 3/5 of it did come from GnR.? I don't like that GnR or Axl has to be brought into it, either.? When VR first formed, it was almost a given, that it would happen, but at this point, it has gotten old.? But, it's still done.? And why Axl, specifically?? Gee - maybe because he's the only original member in GnR, and just happens to be the one that those 3 guys played in a band, with.? So, he'd be the obvious one to mention.? ?Further, it is a fact that VR is about to release a 2nd album, while CD has yet to be released.? I'm not making any kind of dig at, anything, by saying that - it's just a simple fact.? For some reason, whenever that is brought up, some people? - quite a few people, apparently - get all testy about it.? ?

But a conspiracy against Axl?? I don't understand you & some of your posts, anyway.   ?

There's absolutely no doubt that will happen complete with comparisons to the old material included.

It's human nature, no getting around it.

I never said that, I agreed with MotherGoose that Slash would be mentioned in CD reviews along with the inevitable comparisons to the old material.

Get your facts straight.

As for taking digs at one band to make another look better, that's been going on?along time around here (in both directions) and it's safe to say it won't stop anytime soon.

It might be worth noting that Entertainment Weekly gave one of the most negative high-profile Contraband reviews.

That's true, but it was a different reviewer, David Browne.  Whereas this is Tom Sinclair.  I'm just saying that perhaps the best way to compare reviews of one album versus another from an artist so as to try and get a feel for which one is better is to have continuity of reviewers.  Different reviewers have different preferences and therefore different tendencies towards favorable reviews.

I'm glad it's getting good reviews, and I really hope they're warranted (NOTE: That's a shot at music critics and their abysmal  taste...not at VR).  At the end of the day, I'd rather the youth of America be buying an album by Slash & Co. than by Coldplay or Fallout Boy, so even if the album is average...well, at least it's genuine rock n' roll!

Regarding the shot at (the new) GNR, I think it's perfectly fair to compare Libertad to any of the GNR material that involved members of VR, as it gives a large portion of their fanbase a good frame of reference.  For example, if "Song X" has a "Rocket Queen feel to it"...well, we all will have a pretty good idea what that means.

But, as usual, the comment isn't one that adds any substance to the critique.  It's just a typical cheap shot that shows the caliber of journalism we're dealing with, here.  I'm not one to easily take offense (and I'm not offended by this), but the worst thing here isn't the cheap shot, so much as the author's lack of talent and inability to find anything better to put into that line.  Seriously...it's a 90 words review, and the only thing I know about the album is that it's "hard rock" and that the ELO cover, in the reviewer's opinion, is the weakest track.  Thanks, buddy!  That really fuckin' helps.  ok
