Slash is God...pray to him!

« on: November 29, 2007, 10:47:01 AM »

Not sure if anybody wrote about this but Slash is on the Montell Williams show this morning talking about drug addiction and alcohol abuse. He is also talking about his new book. My sister just called me and she is watching it now. Wondering if anybody can get something up so we can see what all he has to say!

Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash will be a guest on tomorrow's (Thursday, November 29) episode of "The Montel Williams Show" (also known as "Montel"), a syndicated a talk show hosted by Montel Williams. Slash will share his story of battling back drug addiction to start a new successful band and become a happy family man.

For more information, visit www.montelshow.com.

Several page extracts from Slash's recently published self-titled memoir, "Slash", are available at this location.

Slash's co-author Anthony Bozza told BostonNow.com, "The greatest thing for me as a writer working on this book is that Slash never really gave it up in the press. He didn't talk about the stuff that went on behind the scenes with himself or with the band. To be honest, I don't think he ever really cared about that kind of stuff. But people always ask him about it and with the the 20th anniversary of 'Appetite for Destruction' this year, he just felt it was time to put all that stuff to bed and just focus on his new band, VELVET REVOLVER."

Sorry I missed this. Anyone tape it?

The interview was cool enough.? Too many commercial interruptions.? Was glad they mentioned VR a few times.? The focus was more on overcoming substance abuse and what's he's doing now professionally than the whole GNR/Axl saga which was a welcome change in perspective from an interviewer. Slash looked more @ ease than some of the previous interviews; he looked really great in general!? (Sorry I didn't tape it.)?

I just watched the interview...it was interesting.  I cannot find the video to post..so here is roughly what was said in a couple of exchanges.

On why he wrote the book:

Slash:  Actually it?s not really in my character to go into a tell all kind of thing.  In the last few years there has been a lot of media attention?misinformation about my relationship with my former band?rumors that my former band was  having a reunion?that the band was getting back together?that I was quitting my current band?it was just out of control.  There was a lot of stuff about Axl Rose and myself and these arguments that were blown way out of proportion.

Montel:  Stuff that supposedly happened 5 years?.you?re stalking him and all this stuff.

Slash:  The thing is it have been almost 12 years since I quit the band.  And I never expected that we were going to get so much attention this far down the line.

On drugs:

Montel: The rumors were the reason the band broke up was because you had died multiple times on stage.  That?s what they were saying?do you remember that rumor?  You died on stage and the Guns N Roses just had enough .  They couldn?t have you just dying in the middle of a performance.  And that was it.  Right?

Slash:  That wasn?t the case, though ?that was far from the truth.

On Guns N Roses:

Slash:  We went from being this pretty big opening band to suddenly becoming this huge stadium band.  And we did this tour?it was a great tour?it was a successful tour, but there was a lot of stuff that went on during the tour that made life sort of uneasy around the band for a little bit.

Montel: And  that was some of the creative disagreements but it also?was some of it some of the drugs that was going on at the time:

Slash:  You know I think my excessive drinking might have offset Axl a little bit?you know because I could put it away.

Montel:  Let?s talk about how much you could put away.

Slash:  A half gallon easy.

Montel:  Of vodka a night

Slash: Yeah.

Damn! A half gallon of vodka a night? I'd love to see what Mr. Hudson's liver looks like.
