With all the chaos that's going on, and everyone spelling doom for GnR, I had this thought.

Would any of you give up the chance of seeing GnR performing live for the next 2 years or so, if Axl released Chinese Democracy?

Even if the band itself is in shambles, Axl could still release the new music. And they apparently have at least one video shot, right?
I understand...a new CD without a tour and a band to do promotion could be disasterous. But right now, I could care less where they play live. Give me the new damn CD and let the band sort itself out for the next year or so. I would take that tradeoff.

I don't care ANYTHING about a tour and don't care if Axl ever shows his face in public again. I just want to hear the music that he has been working on for the last ten years (YES, FOR TEN YEARS AXL HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE STUDIO WITH VARIOUS MUSICIANS!) So, ALBUM ALBUM ALBUM. ps I prefer to hear it in the form it is in now....no re-records with Bucket's stuff.

Album, album, album.

I've been waiting for a full-length, official Gn'R release of original material since late 1991, once the UYI twins were fully implanted in my brain.  That's what I'm holding out for.

I've never seen Bucket live, and it would've been nice to see him play w/Gn'R, but the old 2002 tour bootlegs exist.  Maybe I'll pick one up.  Bucket will tour solo for a long time.

Exactly, I just don't like arena shows or stadium shows anymore. Sound is terrible and too many people. Any venue under 5000 is preferable for me. Nice theatres or dirty grimy clubs! I'll be going to see Buckethead in Hotlanta...will be cool to watch him from VERY closeup. Grin

Close-up/small shows are the best

It's a shame that Guns n'roses couldn't do a mini club tour for their fan club members one day. Iron Maiden do this sometimes

In the end, it's all about the new album(s)...

I hope they still can release it this year, but it won't be easy to get over Buckethead's departure...
Many questions are left without answers: will Buckethead's parts be removed and rerecorded by someone else? Will the materiel that he contributed to write still make it on the album or will it be simply scrapped (this would be very bad news since Axl stated that they wrote many of their best songs after Bucket came in, so it is possible that Bucket might have had an important impact in terms of composition or arrangement...)? Will Brain stay in the band?

The situation is pretty tough... but I hope Axl will achieve his goals in spite of everything. He really has to act with an extreme lucidity if he doesn't want his projects to fail...
As far as I am concerned, I'm still supportive. I wish I could do more, but it seems that being a faithful fan is all I can do for now...

« Reply #18 on: March 18, 2004, 03:29:45 PM »

I'm slightly surprised at the response so far.  Personally,  I would rather see him live every few years, i love the guy, he has inspired me for many years.  Ok he may not do things how we would like him to. But i-as a fan, understand that's his way.  He is not going to do something unless he 100% believes in it and wants to do it.  Call it selfish, eccentric, genius,  call it what you like. But there is only one reason left as to why you are all here as far as Guns n' Roses are concerned and that is because of the magnetisum of Mr Axl Rose.

As much as i loved seeing and accept the/a new line up,  they are still not "really" GN'R to me.  So i'm not really worried if B'Head has left. In peoples hearts - you can't really replace Slash, likewise for Axl and Duff .  The new band are excellent musicians and in their own right are brilliant to see and hear live and i will be at Lisbon absoloutley loving it.

I really couldn't care less as far as publicity and critics and MTV and all that bollocks goes.  I'm not going to be embarressed or feel let down by what he does or doesn't do or how "normal" people perceive him. It is not my place to. He's an artist for christs sake.  And so, when things happen well then... they happen, simple as.

But hearing him sing live, for me is the biggest buzz.  Especially as i waited 10 years before i could see him.  The excitment and tensity in the air in Leeds festival - you can't beat that adrenalin.

Album. I strongly doubt axl would be able to do stadium or arena shows in the US without a new album, especially after the last tour fell apart. Aside from the fact that Clear Channel has such a grip on venues in the US and I wouldn't put it past them to try and keep him from playing their venues. Outside of the US I could see a tour working. But I still think the last tour was axl's chance to get the old songs out one last time before putting CD out and focusing on that material.

Well, that's true, I mean, I really look forward to seeing Gn'R live, something I've never done before.  But, I have no plans to bootleg the show, so it'll be up to my faulty memory to remind me of how great it was, and I can't rely on my memory that much.  Grin  I can just pop a cd into my player any time I want, on the other hand.

Obviously, more agree that they want CD more than anything else, even a tour. But do you think that it's plausible that Axl could release and promote Chinese Democracy without a band?
I don't think it will happen, but I think Axl, Tommy and Dizzy could handle the press and any related appearances.
I think it could work, if the material is good.

There could be so many different guitarists and producers on this CD, that it might not matter. Just release the record, release a video, do some interviews, put Axl in the public eye and have him talk positive about a future tour and more releases.

If someone said "You can have the album under one condition... that you will never see this band live" I would have to turn the album down.  The album could be released without GN'R ever playing another show.  It would be very bitter-sweet.

A huge part of my being a fan of Guns N' Roses is my affection for Axl Rose...  I need to know he is okay.  Once I see him on stage with the band...  I will feel a thousand times better.    Right now more than anything what I want is to hear from him... see him... see the band... see him stand proudly with what he has built...  I want more than anything to see the band at Lisbon.  (or anywhere else for that matter).

I know this sounds insane.  And I do want the music.  But I want it to be the way Axl intends.  I don't want it to be a silet farewell.  I dont' want it to be the end.  It should be the beginning - not the end.

I can't believe only one other poster shares my feelings.

Would you guys rejoice if Geffen siezed the masters and released them next week?  I shudder to think that not a few fans would say YES!!!

Not me.  If I had a choice between THAT and perhaps GN'R at Lisbon where Axl tells us what is next... even if it meant no album this year - I'd choose the latter.

If they had a different setlist on tour, i prefer tour. I like it live, when there is less bass by the way, cause my ears won't last otherwise.

I don't really care for an album, but i love to see live bands.

So if axl did some UYI songs, i'd like that, cause i miss some of them.

Id like the album.  but i would also settle for a single, or a press release as well..

I think they are along way from touring.. dont put the wagon before the horse...

they need to follow Nikki Sixx's plan for putting together a new band...  a single, a cd, a tour..
