Being a European festival and all that, I think they should have got RAMMSTEIN to replace GN'R. RAMMSTEIN always give the crowd value for money!

Or AC/DC, IRON MAIDEN.

AC/DC would have been the most suitable replacement for Guns N' Roses

I feel sorry for the poor saps that are off to RIR4.

Even if u paid me i wouldn't see Foo Fighters.

Im with you Izzy.. i saw them live at a festival once and they were horrible, people rocked cos they knew the songs.. but Dave's voice was horrible.. I mean Axls voice was often a bit too rough and worn, but at least he could sing the notes live the way they were supposed to be sung.

One By One was possibly the worst.. it was horrible.

One thing I don't get is: Why do people insult GNR for having only the Lead Singer and Keyboardist while Skid Row doesn't have the original singer (or bassist I believe).

Sebastian Bach and Rob Affuso the original singer and drummer are no longer with Skid Row, they still have Snake and Scotti Hill the 2 guitarists and Rachael Bolan the Bassist and 80% of songwriting at least was/is done by Snake/Bolan who are still there. 3/5 ain't bad. The vocalist has changed once the drummer 2wice that's it.

Izzy replaced by Gilby replaced by Paul replaced by Fortus
Slash replaced by Buckethead replaced by Huh?
Finck coming in making the line up bigger as has Pittman
Dizzy still around but wait for it.........he still ain't an original member
Axl only original member
Adler replaced by Sorum then for a hort while Josh Freese then Brain
Duff replaced by Stinson

So dude do not compare Skid Row's changes to Guns N' Roses ok

I think its sad how Hanoi Rocks singer gives the new "GNR" shit when the new Hanoi Rocks band concist of Michael Monroe's solo band members, even thou there's two original members but still, you dont go saying shit like that.
Skid Row n' GNR should do a tour together, they did in 93', Both bands are back and re-vamped with new members, i think that would kick arse!!!!!!!!! ok ok

The Foos put on a good live show (IMO) They don't mind sweating, and they give all their songs a rough, live edge...according to the article they (Foos) were on a well-deserved rest, so I figure Dave's voice will be okay...he's a decent screamer...this is one band that tours ALOT and they are pretty much on time... Have fun all your RIR4 Folks Grin

the best replacement would have been one of these:

RHCP
Velvet Revolver
Van Halen
Jane's Addiction (or are they already playing?)
The Darkness

or how about just getting Foo Fighters to play!? great idea! ok

Skid Row....please, why not Warrant? Grin

The Foos are an amazing live act, Taylor Hawkins might be the best rock drummer this side of Dave Grohl.  They have tons of hits and are respected around the music world.

An absolute perfect addition to the RIR lineup.

I agree, the Foo Fighters rock.  They're not my favorite band in the world, but they're a real rock band making their own music, and it's pretty damn good.  They take a few listens before you get into them, but they're all incredibly talented.

I don't know about being a worthy replacement for Gn'R, I don't know if there is one.  The closest thing would be VR.

I saw the Foo Fighters with the Red Hot Chili Peppers a few years back, and the Chili Peppers were awesome, but the Foo Fighters were even better.  Dave Grohl was pretty funny, too.

Foo Fighters are a fine replacement for GN'R.  They're one of the best acts out there today, they have plenty of great songs, and from what I hear, they're pretty good live.  Come on, at some point, you have to stop giving the spotlight to the great acts of yesteryear and instead go to the best bands of TODAY.

I'll tell you what I think would have been the best replacement for GN'R (and a good compromise between the old-school hard rockers and the modern rock fans)....

I dont think so.. it doesnt seem like Dave's style..

Perhaps he'll alter a lyric or make a subtle joke somewhere referencing to the fact that Axl's not there.. but nothing thats not good natured.

I'm a little out of touch with today's music scene, but I would have to agree with the second half of Scabbie's suggestion . . .

Iron Maiden was the most desireable replacement. Like GNR, they have had great success at Rio and a relatively popular new record. And, AC/DC receives great reviews anywhere.

Despite the resurrection of Sammy Hagar, I really think interest in Van Halen is overhyped. I don't think people care anymore. So, therefore, Foo Fighters would be the better selection.

I don't know how Axl could let a group like that just take the stage from him. I know he gave it up, but doesn't that burn his ass? He must just not care I guess.

VH sold out in less than 30 minutes for the Mandalay Bay show in LV, fastest ever. People still care about them.

The Darkness should have played instead of FF I think.

LVPUNK -

You would think Axl would be pissed about giving up Rio, but I just think his excuse in not genuine. Being the concert was 60 days away, I really believe he could've found someone to stand-in for Buckethead or Robin/Richard combo would've worked fine for one concert if he really cared.

You're probably right about VH. I am just so prejudiced by own emotions with VH. I just think Eddie is full of sh*t. I mean a Greatest Hits tour. He is on record as saying that "VH is not Kiss" we're not going to do a tour just for the money. In addition, he isn't doing interviews during the tour. Eddie was cool circa 1982.

I think the Darkness is great! I feel that we are in the minority though. They have only sold 500,000 copies in the states but are a huge hit in Britain. Would they have mass appeal in Portugal. I don't know.

Rio would've been a great concert for GNR. At this point, GNR should tour playing "Chinese Democracy" live at every show. Axl can tweak the songs as he goes along, and people can buy them live the Pearl Jam "bootlegs". He then should never release a studio version. It would be the greatest "FU" to the establishment ever heard.

Maybe he could do the whole 'Hi Axl, Bye Axl' crap he did at the MTV VMA's years ago when he was in Nirvana

If i remember correctly Courtney Love had jokingly asked Axl backstage to be Godfather to the kid, Axl told Kurt to shut his bitch up then later that night after Nirvana finished playing Dave got on the mic saying 'Hi Axl, Bye Axl' several times...........im pretty sure that's what happened anyway i know Dave said something about Axl
