I don't think that this has been disscussed before.

My theory is that he gets a negative effect from the strobe lights (they are only used in LALD) i.e epilepsy, so he needs to wear the very dark glasses to shield his eyes from all angles. The helmet is overkill, just a joke he obviously doesn't really need to wear this.

On another note, I like Fincks playing. His tone is very harsh, he rarley uses the bridge pickup, people mistake this for out of tune playing - not true. His playing is very much in tune and he is an amazing guitar player, I think he will really shine on CD.

Thanks

I think its safe to conclude if any member of the band suffered or was worried by epilepsy strobes wouldn't be used at all.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know anything about epilepsy, so I apologize in advance for my ignorance to any one that does. But if you look at the glasses he wears closely they are more like welding goggles and could surely cut out the strobe effect??

I think it's just a joke that fits in with the song. It's pretty funny. And yes, Finck is a god. He so reeks of awesomeness.

Not true.  I know a lot about epilepsy, seeing how my mother has it, and have seen and dealt with its effects my whole life.  Epilepsy is often controllable with drugs.  My mother hasn't had more than 5 seizures in the past decade, and those usually occurred when she was changing or adjusting her medication.  She watches TV and plays video games with no ill effects.  It is true that flashing light can trigger a seizure for epileptics who either are not on the right medications or who are resistant to treatments.

thank you very much for that insight
i don't play guitar but am interested in the technical stuff...
i buy Guitar World for the articles and often end up reading the
tech stuff too (though a lot of it is still 'chinese' to me - i've picked up a bit doing this (not how to play - just understanding the terminology!  hehe)  I'll be looking out for what you referred to.
thanks  ok

and OH I AM SOOOO looking forward to the gnr guys being on  the cover of Guitar World..!
