That song hooked me for life on Pantera...that intro is the greatest thing in heavy metal!!!! I think the Cowboys from Hell album is also Pantera's best, they sound just like early Metallica too. I love 'Cemetery gates' too. 2 absolutely awesome songs from a great album and a sadly missed group....

That's a great album. Although I can't remember much about it (songs etc.) maybe I'll go pick it up again.

kick ass song smoking

The only thing I don't like about it is Phil's DLR type screames randomly placed throughout.  Gets on my nerves.

off that album "Cemetary Gates" is an awesome song, one of the greatest ever... but the rest of panteras songs just sort of sound like noise to me, i will give cowboys from hell a shot knowing that they do have the talent to write great songs like Cemetary Gates, they just choose not to use it most the time.

Been listening to this album all most continuosuly now for about 6 months - this album is truly the pinnacle of metal and puts sorry Metallica right in their place - most likley my third fav album of all time - Cemetary Gates is just unreal, and Dimebag proves again and again he is the king of heavy metal

Power Metal is my favorite Pantera album.  hihi They could have made it as a glam band if they had gotten Phil as their vocalist a little earlier in the 80's.

Vulgar display of Power is my favorite modern Pantera. I think Cowboys has more bad filler, but even the filler tracks of Vulgar are good. Except for Floods (best Pantera solo), I don't like any song Pantera put out after Far Beyond Driven. Maybe all the weed melted their brains by that point. Wink

PS- Halford is the metal God. Dimebag is just a follower.

I saw Pantera 3 years ago on the Reinventing the Steel tour in Sydney and it was one of the worst show I eva seen. A mate of mine saw them that year with me and agrees with me that they werent any good but he also saw them in 1996 or 1997 in Australia and said they were fuckin fantastic.

My question is did anyone here see them on that tour (2001) and were the as bad as they were in Australia?

I seen them in 2001 and yes the cracks where starting to show sadly. Phil acted like he didn't want to be there at all.

Since the last time this thread surfaced i have got into Far Beyond Driven and The Great Southern Trendkill, albums previously i hadn't liked. Gotta say Far beyond driven is probably my new favourite - just brutal and yet surprisngly melodic, some of the finest riffs i have ever heard - if Dimebag can do it here why can't he do it with Damageplan?
