Here is my list of fav. albums from the old gunners

1.Neurotic Outsiders(most underatered side project that didn't get the exposure they deserved!)
2.Velvet Revolver and/or Duff-Believe in me and/or Slash's Snake pit(1st album)
3. Izzy-117* or Izzy and/or izzy and the ju ju's
4.Slash's snake pit 2nd album...should be called Slash's Garage band!

Duff's first solo album is terrible, a really bad record.  Off key vocals, rubbish and cheesy lyrics, a crappy Rap song, the spoken part at the start of the last song......it's a major embarrassment.

In comparison, Beautiful Disease is leagues better.

Try Kazaa or various other file sharing programs.  Or perhaps on the GNR HUB.  It was never officially released, however a promo copy of the record was leaked in 1998 and has been bootlegged to death.

It's a good album and deserved to be released.

Objectivity?  Huh I am always wondering how anyone can like OMG... Tastes are different, I love 5 O'Clock since the first time and IMO it could have been the best GN'R record with some Axl songs and of course with Axl singing. And all of my 'rocker' friends (some of them are musicians) think that it's an awesome album and musically beats every GN'R albums except of AFD (which is on the same musical level). When I came to the board years ago I didn't understand how can anyone, who loves GN'R, hate this album... and I still don't get it.  no

Course he is, his music is by far the best if the ex-gunners, it is great all the time. ?I would rather see him live than any of the other ex-gunners.

I would say Contraband stands alone outside of "ex - gunners"

1. Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds - I love this album, Izzy is an awesome songwriter and i just love his sonesy/dylanesque voice.
2. Its 5 o'clock somewhere - some fun songs here although its fairly uninspired stuff
3. Believe in Me - a couple of good songs but very half-baked and derivative sounding - where's the punk influence?
4. Ain't life grand - have probably listened to twice but it's fairly dreadful, dated sounding cock-rock and shows that Slash really needs an inspired singer to get the best from him

haven't heard any of the others..

Contraband is definitely the best thing an ex-Gunner has put out that I've heard.  The Snakepit's first album, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere is ok.  It would be much better if the singer didn't suck so much.  Eric Dover I think his name was.  I've heard Ain't Life Grand is much better.  I thought Duff' Beleive In Me was ok.  He had a lot of guest musicians on it (Sebastian Bach, Slash, Matt, Lenny Kravitz), so that kept it kinda interesting.  I've never heard the Izzy stuff, but I heard its good.  What does it sound like?  If it sounds like his GN'R stuff I'm all over it.

Well I'm a big Izzy fan, prefer his solo stuff to GNR but of the other ex-gunners I like these also:

Gilby Clarke - Pawn Shop Guitars (excellent from start to finish!)
Duff McKagan - Beautiful Disease

I have never liked Snakepit, and I wouldn't call myself a VR fan either (Contraband has been thrown in the bin). I only have one Buckethead album, which was ok but nothing special  Undecided

Use Your Illusion I (1991)

« Reply #21 on: February 03, 2016, 01:58:07 PM »

Thought I'd dig this old thing up. Listening to some Neurotic Outsider stuff now.

Really liked that album. I'm actually fairly unfamiliar with Gilby's late 90s stuff and Izzys as well. I only have the Ju Ju Hounds album an the 117 one.

Then I only have Pawnshop Guitars. Anyone have that Gilby best of set he did?
