Someone asked me a question two days ago that made me think about this: "If you could create your own line-up for Guns N' Roses keeping Axl Rose as the original remaining member of the 1987-1996 line-up... who would you pick for the line-up?"

Mine was this:

Axl Rose (Guns N' Roses) - Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
Tim Skold (Marilyn Manson, KMFDM) - Lead Guitar
Christian O. Wolbers (Front Line Assembly, Fear Factory) - Lead Guitar
Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails, Guns N' Roses) - Lead & Rhythm Guitar
Al Pitrelli (Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth) - Lead & Rhythtm Guitar
Sean Yseult (White Zombie) - Bass
John Tempesta (White/Rob Zombie, Scum Of The Earth) - Drums
Dizzy Reed (Guns N' Roses) - Keyboards

Under the assumption that everybody is in their prime.
Vocals Axl Rose
Guitar Jimmy Page
Bass John Paul Jones
Drums John Bonham

Axl fronting Zeppelin would have been the best. I like Plants voice but I don't relate to his Lord of The Rings style lyrics.
The new Gnr's sound, especially on Madagascar, reminds me a lot of Zeppelin. The fact Axl is so willing to experiment with any style of music is something i'm sure he picked up from Zeppelin and other acts like Queen.

87 for sure
even 92

but if we have to (all living)

Axl- Vocals
Brian May- Lead/Rythm guitar
Jeff Beck- Lead Guitar
Joe Perry- Lead/Rythm guitar
Billy Sheehan- Bass
Roger Taylor- Drums
John Paul Jones- Keyboards, Piano

That would be a killer group. Joe Perry's bluesy tone combined with Brian May's unmistakable sound backing a Jeff Beck Solo with a Billy Sheehan bassline and Roger Taylor and John Paul Jones laying down some rythm and AXL fronting it all!!!!!

List 2 (deceased)

Axl- Vocals
Freddie Mercury- Vocals
Duane Allman- Lead Guitar
Jimi Hendrix- Rythm guitar
Randy Rhoads- Lead/Rythm guitar
Jaco Pastorious- Bass
John Bonham- Drums
Freddie Mercury- Keyboards, Piano

Axl and Freddie in one band together on stage is a dream of mine that will never come true. My 2 favorite singers. Duane Allman would but the blues into it with Randy Rhoads doing a rythm would almsot compensate for slash and Jimi Hendrix, well hes not as great as they say whihh is why i put him on rythm. And Jaco and John fuckin' Bonham? is there anything left to say?

you contradicted yourself. If Axl was the only remaining guy from 87-96, Dizzy shouldn't be in there

Richard Fortus, the phenomenon

« Reply #22 on: June 23, 2006, 04:49:11 AM »

After seeing the new band at the Paris show, I would say:

Axl
Slash
Fortus
Duff
Brain
Dizzy

Richard impressed me as much as Slash, and Brain impressed me more than Matt Sorum when I saw VR.
Duff blew me away with VR, I couldn't think he was so great and look so good, what a Rockstar! However, I barely didn"t even pay attention to Tommy. Duff is a fantastic bass player and I miss his background vocals. I miss him in GNR.
Dizzy is the old good Dizzwald Reed, love the guy, and he is a great musician!

W. Axl Rose = vocals
Steve Vai = Lead Guitar
Jimmy Page = Rhythm Guitar
Cliff Burton = Bass Guitar
Dave Grohl = Drums

A rock band doesn't need a keyboardist although Rose can easily do them anyway.

I'd love to hear Vai's epic melodic style of guitar playing coupled with the epic style of songwriting of Page and Rose. That could produce some amazing stuff. I love Jimi Hendrix but don't think he and Rose could perform together!

My thing is that I do not consider Dizzy Reed a member of the 1987-1996 lime-up... even though he was listed as an official member of the line-up during the Use Your Illusion Tours he was and is nothing more than the man who plays the piano when Axl doesn't feel like playing the keys himself so he can jump around the stage.

Axl Rose-Vocals
Slash-Lead Guitar
Richard Fortus-Rhythm Guitar
Duff Mckagan- Bass
Brian Mantia-Drums
Dizzy Reed-Keyboards

AND... i'm questioning about Pitman and the synth. it's cool, i cant decide if I'd want it if I could actually pick the lineup.
I just don't really like tommy that much.. i love The Replacements but i just can't get to liking him in GNR. I don't hate him in GNR, but deffinetly would prefer duff in the allstar lineup!
Finck is cool, I'm glad he's in the band these days, but he's a little sloppy. Brain kicks ass over Sorum and Adler too. And, you gotta have Dizzy!

There ya have it.

Axl Rose - lead vocals, piano
DJ Ashba - co-lead guitar
Ron Thal - co-lead guitar
Izzy Stradlin - rhythm guitar
Duff McKagan - bass guitar, backing vocals
Dizzy Reed - keyboards, backing vocals, synth, etc.
Bryan Mantia - drums, percussion

No outsiders needed. If I had to bring in a non-Gunner, I'd say Zakk Wylde as sole lead guitarist. I feel him and Axl would be able to work together fantastically.

Bumblefoot - Rhythm Guitar
Tommy Stinson - Bass Guitar
Dizzy Reed - Keyboard, Percussion
Brian "Brain" Mantia - Drums
Chris Pitman - Sound FX, Synth, Keyboards

This would cause an earthquake, because of how epic it would be... Cool

I still stand by this line-up but if we was going to make this as good as it could be, then there's going to have to be a 4th guitarist. And that ladies and gentlemen is going to be Mr Fortus, the best rhythm guitar player GN'R has ever had. I shouldn't have left him out in the first place, as Ron and Bucket are both lead guitarists, who can handle fills as well.

The Best Guns N' Roses Line-Up Ever!!!

Axl Rose - Vocals
Robin Finck - Lead Guitar
Buckethead - Lead Guitar as well as fills (e.g the third guitar track on some appetite tracks)
Bumblefoot - Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar
Richard Fortus - Rhythm Guitar
Tommy Stinson - Bass Guitar
Dizzy Reed - Keyboard, Percussion
Brian "Brain" Mantia - Drums
Chris Pitman - Sound FX, Synth, Keyboards

Now this ladies and gentleman is now the best Guns N' Roses line-up EVER!!!!!!!!♥♥♥♥

The "Dead!" picture in the booklet of the UYI albums.  Those guys.

The only new line-up guy I think merits a mention is Buckethead.  But we all know you can play all their classic material without him.  He would be a luxury item, not a necessary one.

My all star lineup would be

Axl Rose
Robin Finck
Bumblefoot
Richard Fortus
Tommy Stinson
Dizzy Reed
Chris Pitman
Josh Freese

Would be really interested to see how that would work.

Since there is even a chance of this now... the perfect touring and writing GNR lineup is

Axl, Slash, Izzy, Richard, Duff , Matt and Dizzy/Chris handling the necessary keyboard work.

I'm not sure about the actual poster's lineup. I'd have to think about that for awhile.

My favorite lineup woul dbe the UYI Line Up with Steven Adler and Matt splitting duties or something.

I would be interested in this lineup if you swap out Matt for Frank. Smiley

I never thought 4 guitars were necessary though.

lead, rhythm and a bass was always good I thought.
