Any fans here of this great Canadian band?

I was cleaning up my CD collection the other day was delighted to find all of their old albums which sounded even better than I remember them being.

Very sad these guys are no more...they were absolutely epic live.

Lots of "chunky" rock riffs, hard-hitting drums, blues, and Middle Eastern influences on their albums, so Im sure everyone on this board will love them ok

Some songs worth checking out are:

Save Me
Fire in the Head
The Bazaar
Sister Awake
Temptation
Release
The Messenger
Heaven Coming Down
Lullaby
Angels

Enjoy Wink

Your right, all three of them are tremendous musicians ok

I haven't even heard Jeff's solo album, although Ive heard he's also put out a live album too.

I honestly hope he looses interest in his solo venture, and regroups with The Tea Party.. hihi

There definately a band I could see regrouping at some point, and also a band Im sure Axl would really enjoy.

You forgot "Babylon" and it's amazing video.

But I loved these guys.  Saw them live 7-8 years ago.  Great show.  Great band.

I love 'em, personally. But I have to say that their slow progression towards more commercial productions has made me grimace more than once. Take Seven Circles for example, it's a closet album for me, one that I'll only listen to with headphones stuck to my ears for fear of anyone else hearing the likes of The Watcher or some other horrible tune. Yet I'm a fan and still enjoy a tune like The Watcher to a certain degree.

You know, not only did they get more radio friendly, but the overall musical and lyrical quality slowly declined as well. Don't get me wrong, they still came out with some interesting stuff, but it wasn't as deep as their earlier offerings.

For me the best album by far is Splendor Solis with Twilight being a distant second.

Good thread, good band, my Main Man.

I wonder how Axl's vocals would sound on a Tea Party song.

Some songs I dont think it would work, but I personally think Axl would own a song like "Heaven Coming Down" ok

Jeff Martin is an amazing singer.  I read somewhere he has perfect pitch.  That is evident on many songs.  I think he can out sing Axl any day.  Their early stuff is much better than their latter stuff.

Best is such a relative term though, isn't it?

They're certainly one of the better Canadian bands to have come along, objectively speaking. No doubt about that. But do you realize who you've cut from the list of contenders? That list is long. And it's full of bands who don't deserve the cut. Besides, there's no way to measure "best".  Not accurately anyway.

He looks and sounds almost exactly like Morrison.  What I don't get is you telling me to get a grip.  You are comparing Morrison to Celine Dion.  Are you saying he is a better singer than her or worse?  I stated Martin can out sing Axl, and you reply with a Morrison vs. Dion reference that I think is utterly ridiculous.  So I asked you to explain exactly what you were trying to imply.  Sorry I didn't get your ever so witty remark or it's relevance to my Martin/Axl comparrison, other than Morrison and Martin are very similar.  I fail to see how Dion and Axl are anywhere close to the same singer.

Triptych and The Interzone Mantras are both solid albums, while Seven Circles is a definate decline in quality.

Id honestly say 'Mantras is just as good as Transmission, albeit a softer album ok

Yeah Lullaby is an amazing tune...

master and margarita is pretty cool too...we went and bought that book after hearing Jeff talk about his inspiration for the song...my wife thought is was a pretty good, but i never read it....a bit of a religious flavor in it so it turned me off...i may get to it eventually though

Triptych was too mainstream for me....although the mideast flavour to some of the songs was interesting....when it came out i was working with a guy from Egypt and even he thought it sounded somewhat authentic..kinda shocekd me cuz that guy was the farthest from a rock fan that you can meet but after a couple tunes he was like what is that? they play good hihi i'm not a fan of that messenger tune...though the crazy backing vocals are impressive on it...the coolest thing about that disk is the inner sleeve opens up to a cross

ok so i listened to this today....on the second last track as we speak actually

its decent, a couple tracks are exactly what you'd expect from the Tea Party at their best, and alot of stuff could be from a mellower version of Edges of Twilight. alot of stuff is really mellow though, like more mellow than anything tea party ever did. and he still uses all the exotic instruments that he always has. and he explores a few styles that I've never heard him do.

its a good album and for $8 you cant go wrong...especially if you are a fan of Jeff Martin or the Tea Party...go get it! ok

I disrespectfully disagree. I also have a question. Do you have arachnids residing in your ears? (insert rhyming "knowledge of current affairs" quip here)

I'm sorry, but your silly opinion precludes me from giving you the time of day.

Again, goodbye. Let's silently agree to disagree.

Wow...sarcasm...the lowest form of wit.

You come across as an insecure Axl minion who believes the singer can do no wrong.

You want to silently agree to disagree, then stop leaving inflammatory remarks as your closing response.

Seeing as how we all communicate with keyboards here, let's do away with the oral angle and make this strictly a writing lesson. Tell me more.

You come across as an insecure Axl minion who believes the singer can do no wrong.

No I don't. You just don't have anything keen or original to say, so instead you bundled the thoughts behind your rebuttal into a prepackaged sort of statement, threw it on the table and felt all proud of yourself, having just dealt me a fatal blow. Sadly though I'm willing to bet that you also walked away with a vague sense of confusion in the back of your mind as some small part of you knew that you were unable to sufficiently express the innermost designs of your current thought process. But you know, I wouldn't really worry about it, because for a small fee I can help you out with that. If of course you're interested... Huh

Now, to back up my assertion of innocence (Heavens to Betsy, I'm no Axl minion!) I would direct you to observe the glaring dearth of any reasonable evidence to corroborate your claim of me being a mindless Axl worshipper.

The reality here is that I said nothing to even remotely lend credence to your silly declaration. I can't come off as a sanctimonious disciple if there's nothing there to make me look like one...

You want to silently agree to disagree, then stop leaving inflammatory remarks as your closing response.

Blah, blah, blah. Axl Rose has a better, broader, higher, wider, whatever you want to call it range than Jeff Martin. End of.

I used to love this band like 15 years ago.  I got out of music for a while in the mid 90s, and just forgot about them.  Then I heard The Bazaar while trying to win a copy of Chinese Democracy, and remembered The Edges Of Twilight (wonderful album).
I'm trying to find more bands like them.  Any non-Doors suggestions?

That could be cool, I kind of liked I Mother Earth.  Have you heard any of their stuff?

I have not. The only reason I know that is because I looked Edwin up on Wikipedia a few weeks ago to see what he's been up to.

I just had a listen to their song Awake.  It sounds like they ripped the formula Live has been using the last three or four albums and copied it.  Nothing special at all, and definitely a disappointment from guys who made albums like The Edges Of Twilight, Dig, and Naveed.

Jeff Martin's new band is called The Armada - http://www.thearmada.com/

He now lives in Perth, Australia.  Have seen him live a few times acousic and with The Armarda.  Good to hear some rock music with heaps of riffs and Fkn loud guitar with solos!

He is about to produce the new album for The Eternal - http://www.the-eternal.com/news.html

I saw these guys last week, and thought I'd mention that they have reformed and are working on a new album.  I'm pretty excited to have a familiar source of good music in the scene again - it seems I have too few these days.

Not sure if anyone still cares about this band, but has anybody had a chance to listen to their new single, Water`s On Fire yet?  The single is on iTunes, but their new album is out this fall.

Here's a YouTube link to a live version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9hvUFtICvg

I don't buy online music, so I won't be buying it until the album comes out.  I love it, and look forward to hearing the various instruments present in the studio version.
