I always had a feeling that wasn't a farewell tour. Wonder why Robin isn't involved in this?

He's kept a pretty low profile since becoming a father.

Trent said he was taking an indefinite break a few years ago, and it tied into wanting to get married and have a kid. He never said he was retiring NIN, but said he was going to try to take it in a different direction. But he also said that at his age, it was getting physically tiring for him jumping and running around. I'm surprised he wants to do an arena tour, because the expectation to do those mosh pit anthems are going to be placed on the band. Which is fine for some of them, but Adrian Belew is not a run around and knock shit over guy. Even in Janes, Eric Avery was just doing his thing on bass, ran around a bit, but that was about it.

I thought he was going to start doing what Danny Elfman's done since leaving Oingo Boingo, work on a ton of soundtracks, but people close to him said his hearing's too messed up to do live shows. I think they had a mini reunion last year without him.

I did like How To Destroy Angels' new one, but it's very much along the lines of the mellower stuff Trent's done before.

I took Trent's "farewell" to mean the farewell to slamming around to "March of the Pigs" and "Head Like a Hole". NIN were putting on some phenomenal shows when it came to the visuals, so hopefully that will be coming back. It might also bore some of the audience *L*.

Great to have them back, from what I understand the whole farewell thing was for that line up and era of NIN, this is a whole new thing he has going on here.  Nobody actually takes the "farewell" thing seriously.  The Foo Fighters did a "farewell" thing last year and everyone made a big deal about how long they would be away and it lasted 4 months, they just announced they are already recording the follow up to the record from 2011.

While calling the last tour a farewell tour only to come back might be a little silly, Trent did actually leave the music business for 4 years.  4 years might as well be 40 years in this business at the rate that things change.

I actually skipped the "farewell" tour last time knowing full well they would be back, didn't we all?

Come on, everybody knew NIN wasn't over. NIN will only be over when Trent is dead.  beer

No Robin is a huge let down, though. He is the one and only NIN live guitar player that matters!  peace

The New Nine Inch Nails Announce Summer Festival Dates

Reznor's most famous band will be among those (Bj?rk included) to play Japan's 17th annual Fuji Rock Festival, which runs July 26 through 28. As Consequence of Sound reports, NIN will also perform at Rock 'n' Heim 2013, another three-day event that kicks off on August 16 at the Hockenheimring race track in southwestern Germany (where they'll be joined by System of a Down, Tenacious D, Deftones, and other heavy-hitters).

Yeah similar to why brian left GNR. Being a husband and father is just more important and i say good for him.

I would probably try to hit a few dates if Robin was still involved, as I missed NIN's last run across Europe..... Now there's no chance.  no

I understand you. To me NIN hasn't been the same live since the Fragility Tour. There was pure magic with Trent, Robin and Danny together onstage!  beer

Now I will definitely catch NIN when they are in Europe, Robin is the huge draw for me. I haven't seen Robin live since 2006, when I last seen him in Las Vegas with Guns N' Roses in Sept 2006.

I'm excited to hear what the new album will sound like, wonder if it will be experimental like The Slip, or maybe have more rounder songs like "bite the hand that feeds" or "we're in this together"?. Either way it's going to be ace to see Robin rocking out onstage again.  Cool

I like the new single. It reminds me a lot of some of their older stuff maybe around the downward spiral.
