The album is good, but is far from being Classic Van Halen. The absence of Mike's backing vocals make the album sound like a Dave solo record. In my opinion the DLR Band album is much better.

Yes, Mike's vox are missed.

But

The drumming, guitar and musical craftwork/songwriting is the best rock I've heard in a long time. This is in a different league than Chickenfoot (which itself is good) and Dave's solo stuff.

This album fits in just right with the DLR classic era. One of their best.

6 full songs on ESPN website:

All the other songs are better than Tattoo  beer

This is going to be their best album since their classic Roth lineup.

So I bought the new album the other day at a indie record store that has no regard for release dates, let me tell you right now, this is without any shadow of a doubt their best record since "1984."  Now I am not one to buy into the hype when a new record come out and people automatically go "this is their best record" or "its the best one since ..." but let me tell you right now...It is fucking awesome.  I can honestly say after 3 days of constant listening that it is better than every Van Halen record besides Van Halen 1 and "1984".  The riffs are killer, the solos are amazing, David Lee Roth is maybe not at his best, but damn near close.    Wolfgang brings youthfulness and energy to the mix, they really nailed it here.  It is without a doubt the best record by a non original Van Halen line up.  It blows the Hagar and Cherone stuff out of the water, and gives a lot of the original Roth stuff a run for its money.

yeah I really like it.

They sure are charging a lot for it though, $14.99?  pretty much around the board.  I was expecting a $9.99 sale price for the first week, I'm sure that will hurt album sales, but it should still do at least 100,000-200,000 the first week.

I don't think charging more than 10 bucks in the first week  is a realistic approach to trying to sell records to young people in 2012.

It was 9.99 at Best Buy. Reg price is 11.99.  I didnt bother with the "deluxe" version. Why pay an extra 5 bucks for something that will be on youtube?  Great album.  Blood and Fire is my fav track at the moment.

Checked out tickets for the Orlando show. Double what GNR tickets were.  Cant see paying $162 per ticket.

But new album really exceeded my expectations.  Wolfgang must have given these guys some new energy.

EDIT: I caved & bought two tickets. For that much $$ I really hope they are on their game that night.

It's hit and miss for me.  It's got some of Ed's best guitar playing on it, but DLR's vocals seem forced at times, and some of the lyrics flat out suck.  And that Frosty song...Fail.

From the above interview: " Michael Anthony's voice is as identifiable as Alex's drums or Eddie's guitar. You hear those harmonies. That's Van Halen."  ok
