Live-Metal.Net: I have a habit of throwing this one in here. When do you think that "Chinese Democracy" will be released?

Gilby Clarke: There was point there, I have to tell you, that I was absolutely sure it was coming out but at this point I have no idea. I am just like every other person and I am a fan of GN'R's music but I have no idea. I have heard a couple songs just like everybody else and I am just as curious as everybody else. I am really curious to see what kind of music you break up a really good band for.

I lost some respect for gilby there i have to say, that's probably his point of view since he got fired.. but for the others it was a choice and they helped breaking it up equally as to axl..

i don't consider it broken up though, it's evolved Smiley

Gilby was fired from Guns n Roses right around the time his solo album came out in 1994-maybe a few months after if I remember correctly-he was totally out of GNR by the time Snakepit came around-Axl did not want to write with Gilby, I think had a different version of GNR than Axl and basically was fired for it

But the thing is, I don't think that Axl broke up GNR, so he could do Chinese Democracy (several years down the track).....1994, I think that CD was the last thing on Axl's mind.

Gilby's wording.....is strange.....I don't think he is talking about GnR....

I don't think that he holds any bitterness towards Axl about things that may have occurred many years ago.....at all...

Actually that is just a snippet... to give it some more context he said this... (just for some clarification)

You can read the full interview here:

Is there anything else you want to add?

I think that is about it. I think there is a really interesting vibe right now, we just have to be patient and hopefully we will get some good records out of it.

 - -

So, I sensed absolutely no bitterness whatsoever.

- -

Earlier in the interview, Gilby also mentions doing an autobiography which would feature his "GNR opinion".

my guess is he has a much better insight as to why other members quit the band then us fans that post on this board do

and maybe it's just me, but the fact that every other member of the band quit, rather than staying in one of the biggest bands at the time, has got to at least somewhat backup Gilby's statement

not that it really matters nowadays

There's something i don't understand.

Gilby was fired or at least his contract finished. This was because Axl didn't write with him. Nonetheless, Axl appears in Pawnshop Guitars singing Dead Flowers, so the relationship wasn't bad. That was around that years right ?

I think it was a mutual decision, I remember reading Gilby said Axl wanted 3 guitar players at the time and Gilby didnt like. In any case there wasnt bad blood between them, Axl took stage once in 1999 I think and sang some Stones songs with him.

Man gilby was there for axls re-emergance into the limelight.  In like 2000, Axl came to a club (the cat club) and they sang Dead Flowers together.  I don't think there's bad bloody between them, I think Gilby is just upset the '92 - '94 era band came to and end, for whatever reason.  Which he has every right to be, imho.

According to Gilby's lawyer, he was fired and re-hired 3 times or something like that by Guns n Roses-this is from his lawsuit against them

I must say that was really funny. I never thought of it that way. I think Gilby's right. Slash says he was forced to to quit
because of Axl's controlling behavior. So it would make complete sense for the the other members to leave for the same reason.
Of course Gilby's Right.

I wouldn't wait 10+ years for my album to be released.

Rock on Gilby!

I don't see anything wrong with what Gilby said... ultimately, Axl chucked out the songs Slash had written because of his vision for CD, then brought in a Slash-a-like without telling him.

Do I think that the 'new Guns' are the best men for the job on CD? Indisputably. And they play the old material brilliantly.

As far as Slash not producing anything worthwhile goes... I disagree. But do I think Slash/Duff still write songs that would be perfect for Axl? Yes, yes I do.

Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke was recently asked by a fan if he's hard GN'R's new album, "Chinese Democracy" and what he thought of it. "Yes, I listened to it on a long drive to Phoenix, Arizona," Gilby replied. "I think it's very good and very imaginative. Axl's [Rose] vocals sound great and there's some creative guitar playing on it also. But there was too many slow-to-midtempo songs on it for my taste and some of the solos are a little overdone; they don't match the song. Some of the lyrics are a little redundant. I expected some resolution since it's taken so long."

Clarke joined GUNS N' ROSES in November 1991, replacing Izzy Stradlin, who quit the band in the middle of a 28-month world tour. He toured extensively with the band on their "Use Your Illusion" tour between 1991 and 1993 and appeared on the GUNS N' ROSES covers album "The Spaghetti Incident?", "Live Era: '87-'93" and "Greatest Hits".

Shortly before GUNS N' ROSES recorded a cover of THE ROLLING STONES' "Sympathy for the Devil" for the film "Interview with the Vampire", Clarke was replaced by lead singer Axl Rose's longtime friend Paul Tobias.

ROSES - CLARKE DEFENDS GUNS N' ROSES COMEBACK

Former GUNS N' ROSES rocker GILBY CLARKE has heaped praise on his ex-bandmate AXL ROSE - insisting he loved the rockers' comeback album CHINESE DEMOCRACY.The guitarist was brought onboard for the band's 1991 world tour after Izzy Stradlin quit the group during its 28-month world trek.
He was replaced by frontman Rose's best pal Paul Tobias in 1994.
But Clarke doesn't hold grudges, and is a huge fan of the band's "imaginative" latest LP - despite the poor sales which followed the November (08) release of the 15-year project.
He tells Blabbermouth.com, "I think it's very good and very imaginative. Axl's vocals sound great and there's some creative guitar playing on it also."
