Is there a way to remove my avatar from the top of the page but still next to my posts, other than logging out?

Well... That depends on why you'd want to do it. If you just don't want it being seen on your computer, but still want it as your avatar, you could temporarily right click and block images from wherever it is hosted.

My crappy computers @ work have IE 6, and dont have that option...

Until then I'll just have to remember not to keep my screen up when I walk away from my desk

There's that lil' like arrow colapse thing on the left of home, that when i click it, hides tho whole top part.
