"It's crap...just put this stuff aside for an event like that, for the recognition like that, to do the cool thing, and respect for what you guys have done -  I think it's totally screwed up!"   Dee Snider

That's definitely the best way to win an argument, quote Dee Snider.

Yup, that's what Dee Snider is known for, telling it like it is.

And seriously, who the fuck cares what Alice Cooper thinks?

Exactly, he is a die-hard re-unionist stuck in 1988, along with Gene Simmons, and now Dee Snider.  All 3 whose interest in money trumps anything that could be considered music.  Both KISS and Alice Cooper recently promoted a sleazy Payday Loan company in the name of charity, but that is another story.

Many respects to Axl for what he has wrote.  I agree with his decision.  Only sorry that he had to write what he wrote, not that he wrote it.  He has been respectful all along.  The press article comments and comments on Twitter coming out now are just plain nasty/hateful, proof to me that he has made the right decision.  Steven has also been a complete and total asshole.  I won't say he ruined it though because for me there was no special moment I dreamed of to ruin.  Axl and Slash hugging? drool  I don't care about the HOF either way partially because of Warren Zevon(RIP) not being there among others, anyway hope to see another USA or #UCAP tour instead. love

12/16/2011 You want a speech..then here ya go, Axl talks about HOF at 7:08, then kicks a dolphin...that is enough for me..seriously it's not the end of the world

Good on Axl for standing by his beliefs.

He's not for sale, and that's always been my favorite thing about him.

Hehe, just look what Dee's doin' theese days. Is that because of lack of recognition? Don't get me wrong, I kinda like Twisted, AND I think this commercial with Dee, for Unibet is kinda fun, but still....I kinda feel that's the opposite of what Axl's doin' with his letter and refusing being inducted ok

the guy is like a sharp-edged cube. not giving a flying fuck about whoever wants him to do whatever, he just stays himself. very well written, and also very clear "fuck you" to Adler & all the haters. in my eyes, respect for Axl +100%. respect for Adler... well, I already had zero before rofl

See this is going to be a very busy topic as we all throw our opinions into the hat. Mine for what its worth is this,

I never really understood what this HOF this was about, over here in the UK to me anyway, its just another awards show type thing. As a Guns N Roses fan since 1991 I didn't feel like there induction to the HOF was a important to justify my love of the band either old or new.

I've grown up with Axl and the changes in line up and right now in 2012 we need this new, current lineup touring and hopefully releasing new music. I've said it before, if its nostalgia you are after watch your Tokyo dvd's again.

My other half says that I'd defend Axl no matter what even though I have never met the guy, maybe that's true but I think he was right to shun this HOF stuff it was only ever gonna blow up in his face, it still will as the reunion lot will blame him for it not happening but at least now it will be on his terms.

Can't wait to see Guns N Roses rock the UK again next month.

Fox News Radio just reported on it and ended with..

"The rock hall of fame will put more music onstage to presumably fill the hole left by Axl."

If standing by your beliefs and not being for sale is wrong, then I sure as hell don't want to be right.

Lemmy said it best and I'll quote him the best that I can, but he once said something to the effect of "If you're doing what you feel is right, then stand up for it - until death."

Axl has always had my respect for that very reason, and he will always have my respect for that very reason.

"You can bid all day, but I can't be bought", as Kid Rock once said.

I gotta be honest here...

It amazes me that people still had hopes of a reunion after all these years. I never aim to "please", I always tell things as they are. You've been lied to by the "Press" hundreds of times all these years cause their job is to sell you drama. They convinced you that a reunion "could" happen.

And now many of you are mad at Axl for keep on doing what he's been doing all of his life. Being honest and courageous enough to tell things as they are. I thought this was the reason we all love him for. I thought people loved his "rants". Unfortunately people love happy endings, at any cost. If they don't get it their way, they get mad.

This "happy ending" that you were seeking though, would end up having many casualties. Something the "fans" never cared for. Axl stands by the people who stood by him through rough times. He could have gone there, accept the award, play a couple of songs and you really think that would be the end? After that you would ask for more and more and more... You know you would. Even rocks have enough brains to understand that. It won't happen.

A reunion between people who hate each other? Is that something you really want? A reunion for money? That is what Axl denied last night... That is what he's been denying for the past 10 years and the reason he's been changing managers every few years. All the money in the world.

This is the reason I RESPECT this man. This is the reason I'll never betray this man. Accept it, move on, if you don't like the new band, don't go to the shows.

There shouldn't be any negativity in your heart about Axl. He is an artist who gave us lots of happy memories and he gave us some incredible songs to sing to for the rest of our lives. Respect his decisions and don't ask for more than what you paid for.

Peace everyone.

Christos

Great post

I laugh at people who downplay something like this as "no big deal"

LOL

Im sure when people on here just graduated college they were excited and count it as one of the biggest moments of their lives.

This is an ENORMOUS honor. especially first ballot.

for fans to claim it isn't.. makes me shake my head.

HOF of anything is a HUGE deal.

Are you kidding?

No its not a big deal, for some it might but being realistic almost no one gives a fuck if a band its in the hall of fame of rock, in a matter of fact it sound like a contradiction for some rock bands to be on a thing like this , but anyway.

« Reply #295 on: April 12, 2012, 03:14:43 AM »

Axl letter is well written and... I really didn't expect anything more from him.

I think he take hismelf so seriously that he can't understand that people can forgive/forget his bad performances and a lot of other things, like no videos, no album or long album delay, even his  "particular vision of life and things", but to me at the end this is just so sad. I think long time fans would show less tollerance to him for everything now more than ever.
With this move he has lost a lot of fans, who desidered and even deserved this cadeaux, thischance was  like "get out of the fucking bunker man, war is over". But ok, war is not over for him. If it's all about "not selling himself" he wouldn't had attended mtv awards in 2002 e in 2006. And Axl dude If you want to "bury afd" (25 years has gone, everyone could have buried it in this lifetime) and even the old lineup, play mostly new songs and we'll see if people will "get confused" about the new band.

And Axl you're doing exactly what marlon brando did.

Dizzy should be there, and we'll see what is really hilarious... But i'm sure dizzy would change magically his mind.

It was printed 10 years ago on the tshirts sold during the UK "tour" (it was actually 2 shows...)

A LOT of bands have gone through reunion just for the money, like Kiss and The Eagles for example. But Kiss ended up parting ways with Criss and Frehley yet again about ten years ago and Eagles ended up firing Don Felder. At least Axl won't even pretend to want to reunite with his former bandmates and chooses to focus his energy on the current band. I respect him for that.

Besides, even if the old lineup would get back together on stage again, it still wouldn't be the same as 1987. They're not the same as they were then.

The one I feel most badly for is Steven. Poor guy never really bounced back from what happened to him in 1990..

Axlspants - as a fellow Brit, the whole so-called "honour" of this award has passed me by too. If Axl had chosen to embrace the thing wholeheartedly I'd have supported him because, after all's said and done, it's his feelings that count on this matter and not mine. That said, I can't pretend I'm not pleased that he won't be a part of the circus.

Christos - Thanks for a superb post. I endorse your sentiments 100% and you put it far more eloquently than I would have done. Cheers.  ok
