I know after 9/11 Springsteen was actually out in public and a casual fan mentioned to him that we needed him.
He ended up putting out The Rising which was a fantastic song and album.
He also later admitted that he had a song or two that he already wrote but somehow seemed to fit with the theme of the album.

This being said, I think it's not unreasonable to suggest that there is one song in the arsenal that we have not heard that may just "fit" with what is going on in the world.
It could be dropped on youtube - and it would not suggest a desire for profit, publicity or anything else of that nature.
It would give people something to hold.

Axl - we need you

Yeah Bruce named his band after himself, Axl didn't.  I don't know how it happened but it did.  Don't think he wanted it or wants it now but Axl, we need your band.

Axl is at home doing his normal routine. Expecting anything from GNR is pointless. When all this passes the tour will roll on and more awesome concerts will happen. New music? Not in this lifetime.

There's expecting and then there's hope.

Very true. I have been hoping for the best for GNR since I was a teenager... I am turning 40 next week. Reality settled in with respect to this band long ago. Don’t get me wrong, GNR is my all time favorite band easily. But a new album just isn’t going to happen. I guess Axl really doesn’t need to do one anyway really. What does he have to prove? He tours and enjoys life. Same with the rest of the band. It is frustrating as we all know something great could happen... it’s just endless vague statements from the band/management and something to read about in forums or in the news.

For some reason I think of the Sex Pistols reuniting and the Filthy Lucre tour for their reunion. Nowhere near the level of GNR of course but in its simplest form it’s the same setup: most of the old line up, classic songs, nostalgia, great shows.... not one new song but lots of cash from touring. The Perils of Filthy Lucre Rock N Roll Decadence.

That's assuming that if they don't need to release new music, that they don't want to.

I'm not so sure about that.

After all, they're musicians who create music. I doubt that they create it just for themselves.

I know that it can be frustrating for some fans waiting for this new music to materialize, but it still doesn't mean that the band is against releasing new material....

Slash said they were talking about the best way to release new music.  That says a lot.  I personally don't think you have that conversation until you are almost there but it's probably a hot topic in the industry now so ......

Given the special circumstances we are in, one possibility could be a digital release first, then a physical release at a later time. But I suppose they might want to have some more clarity on when touring might resume again - given they maybe don't want too much time to pass between a release and the tour.

A single in the meantime would have been great.

As more time goes on it looks like GNR is more looking like Queen, touring but no new songs.  I have given up hope on new music, but at least GNR is a functional touring band.

Respectfully to Slash, I don’t buy this. Slash always has music coming out. He knows how to release an album in many formats and platforms.

No doubt Slash has experience but he was the one who said it had to be talked about.  I'm assuming GNR is a much bigger venture then he's use to and he recognizes it's got its differences.  Needed to be kicked around a bit.

I should add this virus could help or hurt.  Lots of people working from home and need stuff to do but the net is jammed.  Lots of people going to be sick and not working where ever they are.  The money has to dry up for the extras.  I think the window of opportunity is closing fast.  I'd be holding.

I've started feeling this way......but only quite recently. I'm still hopefully that their potential can be achieved. We all know they all have it in them....which is where the frustration sets in, especially in those of us who care probably far too much about this band!

No one knows at this moment. We can just speculate.

I think it all depends on what the governments decide in the future. If they ban large gatherings for the summer, or not.

Crazy to think about: in three years time, it has been just as long since the release of Chinese as the space between TSI and Chinese.

Hopefully GNR are making definitely plans to release an album later this year.  Silence is deafening, you would think someone in the band would have a update. See what happens... beer
