" SOLD OUT "

« on: June 06, 2012, 03:33:03 PM »

Korn, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Nicolas Cage, Efren Ramirez, Derek Mears, Tyler Mane, Alter Bridge, Anthrax, Megadeth, James Durbin, Kevin Rudolf, Asking Alexandria, DJ Jesse Marco of "Project X" and More Celebrate Guns N' Roses

If you made music any time after 1987, you were influenced by Guns N' Roses. That's a cold hard fact.

Appetite for Destruction is just as important as Led Zeppelin IV, Who's Next, or The White Album. It's a seminal landmark of an album that will never get old, and it's as relevant now as ever.

Plus, if you've caught Guns N' Roses recently, you've witnessed live rock 'n' roll at its finest. Legendary singer Axl Rose sounds as powerful as ever, and he commands the stage with inimitable and unmatched charisma. The band?guitarists DJ Ashba, Richard Fortus, and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, bass player Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer, and keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman?remains unstoppable too. Chinese Democracy kicked all kinds of ass, and whatever Guns N' Roses do next will undoubtedly bring rock to another level altogether again.

So, given the band's immense influence, we asked everyone from Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage to Korn to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Efren Ramirez to Slipknot about when they discovered Guns N' Roses, their best memory of the band, favorite song, and what the band means to them.

Nicolas Cage [ Face/Off, Leaving Las Vegas, Drive Angry, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance] :

I think Axl is one of the great writers of the last century; his piano playing is amazing and that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Guns N' Roses is outstanding.

Ha ha.
Even before reading that, I've always said Nick Cage - although he's made some dumb ass financial decisions (like buying a fucking dinosaur) - is genius.

Nick Cage is the man.
Weather Man is one of my favorite movies of relatively recent times.

Strange that an epic band like GN'R could have influenced so many shitty excuses for bands, aside from Megadeth, whom I have a hard time believing was actually influenced by GNR...

Prostitute is incredible. It's one of my very favorite pieces of music of all time. I could listen to it 100 times a day and never get tired of it.

So I guess what I'm saying is "Duh, of course!"

It's just people commenting on GNR, not necessarily influenced by them. I take influenced by to mean they shaped a band's early sound.

You should have seen the cover they wanted to do. It wasn't a glove, believe me.

Prostitute was always a big 'gun'. Youth, RTB, Merck and Buckmaster all regarded it as a strong song, and it is one of my favourites as well.

The problem with Prostitute is that it is that last song on the album, which is appropriate for the song, but it means that alot of people who listened to CD and did not make it to the end have missed out on a proper classic GN'R song.

yeah all those bands blow except for Megadeth and I do like Corey Taylor and Mark Tremonti.  Artist Direct really didn't get too many of the A-list bands over the last 20 years to take part in this piece.  Although the Nic Cage thing is awesome!  So cool he loves a song off "CD"

I always felt Prostitute was far and away the best song on CD, and defined where Axl wanted GNR to go-I really wished it would have been played in concert when I went.

As usual, anyone who says" gnr is great" then is cool & great too.

Nicolas cage is clearly one of the worst actor ever, and for sure he wears the worst wigs ever made. Who cares if he loves prostitute (i love it too, so?)? He's far from being a genius....

Prostitue is one song I'd love to see released as a single.

To me, its a great song that is in the mid-point on Chinese Democracy, the mid-point in being its not anything like shacklers, riad or scraped, nor is it THL, Maddy or Sorry.  It stands alongside TWAT in the instantly likeable songs that would make the casual listener go out and buy CD. To me, its the nearest thing to SCOM, PC or YCBM as songs that could feature on a radio play list, TWAT isn't.  In the UK (at least) having a line about giving head, that makes no effort to disguise what the line is saying means it wouldn't be played on main stream radio here  Sad
