Its a bummer this didn't get put out, I suppose.

But, and I am only speaking for myself, I don't spend a lot of time sitting and watching a concert DVD.  I'll listen to an audio bootleg on the iPod either in the car or hanging out.

Actually, securing a mechanical license of the songs for use, distribution and sale on an album/record, at least by US Copyright Law, you do NOT need to get the publisher's permission to release. For example, Slash or his label would owns the master recording (in this case a live performance). And those performances would be 'cover versions' (meaning not the original AFD/UYI masters). The label would then secure a mechanical license and pay the compulsory mechanical royalties.

Now, as for the Synchronization rights, synching the compositions (GNR songs in this case) to a fixed visual medium/platform (like a DVD for example), that you DO need to get the publisher's permission directly. This is before you even get to the DVD stage, the mechanical production of the DVD.  And those requests can be approved or denied.

My hunch/opinion: it sounds like either side is/will block the other on things like synch rights for their respective projects, so either side cannot benefit more than the other (like if one side releases something and it sells gazillion$$$, while the other side can release something and it tanks. How does that benefit the losing/tanks side?). But when there's a third party (feature film, commercial spots, Hall of Fame) then both sides can equally benefit from the synch fees.

The audience network did a guitar session (video) with Slash. They did a couple of gnr songs as part of that set, with miles Kennedy on vocals.  That session was in heavy rotation for quite awhile just after the hof induction.

So it's definitely not "both sides" refusing requests arbitrarily.

And that Audience Network program would be a third party program, not a Slash release. What GNR songs did they do?

I'm giving a hunch/opinion based on current copyright laws, with an estimated guess for one reason why there could be a hold up. Nothing definitive, and there can totally be a bunch of other reasons why. I don't think my guess is far fetched.

From rock fuel media's Facebook page 3 hours ago..."GNR news will be coming right after new year re theatrical release, broadcast and DVD release dates. Obviously, there have been some delays, but we're told all has been sorted out. Happy holidays and peace to all!" Hell yes...I can't wait to own this!!

I may be in the minority but personally - from what I've seen in the clips and promos - I am not in a hurry to get this release. Guns have been pretty amazing since they resurfaced in 2001 and both Version 2.0 (2001-2002), Version 2.1 (2006-2007) and now Version 3.0 have/do put on incredible rock shows.

But the Vegas idea and setting, complete with drunk, touristy and passive crowds (given mouth to mouth via pyro effects) really doesn't do the band and performances justice at all.

Hoping to be wrong.

Anyway .. Merry Christmas y'all!

The Wikipedia page has a release date of February 20 2014 for what it's worth. It also has the track list which includes everything except the Fortus solo, Ashba solo and all of the jams between songs...hopefully all of those are on the DVD. It would suck if they cut anything out. Here's the page... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appetite_for_Democracy_3D

Nice find, but I have a bad feeling that that's a kind of "stock" release date. Which means that it's put out there as a guideline, rather than being set in stone. Hope I'm wrong, this DVD sounds brilliant.  Cool

Ya, It probably doesn't mean much if anything at all. But it's nice to see things about it's upcoming release like this. I was there and I really really want to own this.

If you don't want to watch them...skip through them. I love everyone's solos and all of the little jams they do before some of the songs. If they cut some parts out of the concert then it's not the complete show, and I would rather have the complete show!

it would be a massive dissapointment for me if they start cutting songs and jams.

If they remove anything from a live recording, you'll have some saying it's not a true document of the show or a complete recording. Hence making it less perfect.
If they remove something, you'll have some saying it's a better more trimmed presentation...

Business as usual, can't please everybody!  hihi
