Saw some people on Twitter suggesting that GNR would be closing the night. Sounds realistic to me:

The article I posted is all about The Who, but this video (thanks Jarmo) kinda gives it up: at this point, GNR would be a much bigger act. Yes, the former is a classic band, but they just don't bring as much people to see them.

RIR recordings are always great!

Well not always... even if it's raining?

Would there be demand for more dates there?

Definitely.

/jarmo

Yeah...I'm pretty sure they can adaed dates in Chile,Argentina,Urugvay,Paragvay, Colombia and some other countries...I think GNR menagment did a real job,and there are lot of space and demand for another stadium tour in South Americ

As far as sound: it was NEVER good. The soundboard mix was terrible at the 2001 version and laughable in the 2006 (most of the times there was no guitars).

But here's hope for a 4K broadcast. The 2015 edition was broadcasted in 4K and with dolby atmos sound, but that was still a trial. Hopefully we'll get another one - I've been a beta tester for them before at the Olympics, maybe I'll be able to at least get it again. Not sure how to record that, tho.

Yeah, but it's a wide shot and used only for a couple of seconds. The person is nearly indistinguishable. There's bumblefoot in the video too, but if you don't stop it and analyze, you will not notice. I think it's alright to use a footage like that. It's there for the effect and it does it well.

Well..RIR II is ok not great, and RIR III (while it's my favourite of them all) sounds very messy, and has weird echoes and Axl's mic is way too low.
(there's three songs available from Japan broadcast, and they are way better sounding, vox and drums sound very different there).

Then there was the 2006 Rock in Rio Lisboa, and sound of the broadcast was way off again, and 2011 there was problems too like you said, and like many us will remember..

Makes sense. The Who are a pretty poor live act these days I think. Guns would blow them off stage if it was the other way round.

Scrolling through the other days, the supporting bands are written with a smaller font. The Who and GNR have the same size headlining-font.

Seems to be more of a co-headlining deal, which probably means that GNR will go on last, but The Who will still have a full headlining time-slot (2hrs maybe).

That's my understanding as well.

Co-headlining.

I guess The Who are too big to be just an opening act.

From a promoters point of view it's a weird one, as The Who are basically wasted money. GNR could sell the show on their own, so having The Who co-headlining too seems, financially, a strange choice. If I was promoting it I simply wouldn't have bothered booking The Who.

I don't know how active The Who are planning to be in years to come. The promoters at RIR might have seen this as an opportunity to have The Who as part of their festival. An opportunity that might not come again.

A festival's resum? and reputation are just as important factors as money. It's what'll help a festival keep alive in the future.

Yeah, that's another way of looking at it. It's strange all round though in my view, not just financially but in terms of putting the two bands together musically. Especially with Roger Daltry's comments about Axl recently. All just seems odd to me.

I'd say that The Who were probably 90% booked when the deal for GnR was started, and to his surprise both agreed, so opted to headline both.  It could have been a no from both or an either 1 from 2 deal too. Sometimes the runes line up that way.  The Who aren't my kinda of deal but I did see 'em at the Isle of Wight last year and they did put on a stella show, so its not entirely a bad combo for that evening.

Yeah, that's a good theory actually. Did you enjoy them? I've only seen recent live footage on tv rather than n person (Glastonbury, a couple of others) and thought they were piss poor live these days! Just two old guys running through the motions with little passion. A bit sad to see.

GNR could do something unique on RIR. From the band?s history (and Axl?s) to the festival, it?s not just a show for them and their audience.

An amazing show as we are used to see on their tour? NICE!
An amazing surprise to the whole world to see and be unique in RIR history? MIND BLOWING!
