On Harris' eligibility, in response to reports that she was not eligible to be VP, Trump said "  I have no idea if that's right". He never said she was ineligible.  2 days later  the White House put out a statement saying she was eligible.  Opening the door a crack for 48 hours on the subject wasn't a good idea.  Not a fan of the unforced errors.

You are really reaching with your assumptions about me PermisssionToLand.  Keep in mind just because I hate Pineapple on Pizza, doesn't mean I hate all kinds Pizza and every fruit grown on the Earth.

"largely peaceful" protesters....

man beaten bloody and half unconscious, sitting calmly, and a BLM supporter kicks him from behind in the head and knocks him out.

entire beating was captured on video.

She's a great choice. I think all of the finalists would've been. Her debate with Pence will be really good.

We agree on something! I like her. her debate with Pence will be good - i'm sure she will do well.

although I slightly disagree that she's a great choice, at least not in terms of guaranteeing the victory. not that i think she is a bad choice, but if I was advising Biden, I would not have pushed for her.

Among the candidates i think she was the best. Demings could have been good too. I like Duckworth but i think her Cuba comments disqualified her. Which is a shame because who wouldn't want a decorated war hero with her foreign policy experience in step away from the oval.

Again, no direct link to BLM. There is no mention of them in the article. The video doesn't capture the whole thing either. Only the kick and that other protesters help him the injured man. Why do you so badly want BLM to be responsible for every bad action at these protests?

Good question, i know i didn't. I've never been a convention watcher. I'll watch interviews, speeches and debates. The conventions just aren't interesting to me. If there's a particular speaker i'm interested in seeing i can find it on youtube.

Trump was now calling the Democrats fascists. If people that are to the left of him politically, are fascists, what does that make him?

The irony of it all is that what the right calls radicals, socialists, communists, fascists, Marxist etc would be considered right of center in your neck of the woods. That's how far right the right has moved. Biden is no radical., Biden is more center then Obama ever was.

I like to watch the acceptance speeches to get their platform.  Always wish there were some commercial breaks during those.  hihi  Maybe youtube is the way to go, hit the pause button.

All I know is Bill Clinton is on the agenda tonight, so I will avoid like the plague. Blech.  Will try to watch Dr. Biden's speech tomorrow, I guess.

I'll at least watch that. I'd much rather see a speech, interview or debate with the candidate. I don't want to hear the other speeches telling me why i should vote for the nominee.

I caught the last hour of the convention last night. Came across as canned and felt like an infomercial. (Considering it is virtual the GOP convention could very well suffer the same fate).

My takeaway is that there was lots of talk about unity and empathy and they all hate Trump. Nothing about policy or the mention of the unrest in cities like NY, Portland, etc  And Michelle Obama did not mention Kamala Harris once which is odd since Harris is being touted as a historic VP candidate. Could her speech have been prerecorded that long ago?

Maybe night 2 will touch on what they missed last night. The #meetoo movement is on hold tonight  for Bill Clinton's speech ( or prerecorded remarks, not sure on details other than hes got his spot tonight)

I get the same take away from a lot of political stuff.  Where's the substance, the plan?  A lot of time they make me feel like they think the people are stupid and we'll believe anything they say.  Even when they fact check, they twist it.  I heard there is a new news station coming that just reports the news, no opinion.  I would like that.

Exactly why i never watch. You get more information from a debate or interview. I will probably watch acceptance speeches on both sides though. I assume Trump and Pence will be giving one? I know they plan to accept the nomination in private]

We definitely need a station like that.  We all have opinions but we dont need every news channel catering to them all the time.  It is human nature to want your opinions validated and they put that above presenting the full story with all the pertinent facts since ratings are more important to them.

I mean....thats every convention I've seen in my life. Especially the "filler" speakers.  I've actually thought the delivery in this format was generally BETTER than I've seen in the past.  Still canned, but not QUITE as teleprompter dry in most cases.

Now, maybe last night was worse.  I didn't watch to avoid Bill.  I did see the roll call (which was kind of cool) and Dr. Biden's speech this morning.  I thought both were pretty good, honestly.  The roll call, especially.

My takeaway is that there was lots of talk about unity and empathy and they all hate Trump. On the policy bits, that's pretty much the norm for the convention.  Policy bits come out of the acceptance speeches (and, later, the debates) the rest is really just cheer leading, enthusiasm building, and character testimonies.  Nobody is going to really talk policy (though there was, from what I'm reading, a pretty sizable ACA policy bit last not?) except the candidates, themselves.

As for Michelle's speech: Or, you know, the focus was on Biden, since he's accepting the nomination for President, and Trump, because he's the current president. MOST of the speakers have focused on Joe.  Harris will have her time, likely tonight.

Just to play devils advocate: Using her 160k dead number from her speech...she was maybe 2 or 3 days earlier (from the 16th). We know it had to be written/recorded after August 8th and before August 16th (because clips were shown VERY early on the 17th). Given broadcast date....that doesn't seem that unreasonable.  It's basically a week between one and the other.  I know it seems like forever, but Harris was only announced on the 11th.

And if the worst you (global you, as in Trump and his supporters) can say about a speech is you think it was recorded well in advance....you know you're losing the battle.

Not that I disagree....because Bill is a giant scum bucket...but if you are going to DIRECTLY quote Brit Hume from Fox News, you should probably at least provide attribution.

You are really reaching with your assumptions about me PermisssionToLand.

You are really desperate and building a strawman. There is no assumption, I am literally quoting you and holding your feet to the fire. Where is the personal responsibility for your own statements?

Quote
Keep in mind just because I hate Pineapple on Pizza, doesn't mean I hate all kinds Pizza and every fruit grown on the Earth.

So in this analogy, you hate Harris? Just not every black person? I never suggested you hate all black people. I simply pointed out your naked prejudice. I'll repeat it for you since you've now responded twice without addressing it:

"You see a woman of color breaking a barrier of society and your immediate impulse is to denigrate her and suggest she got the job because of "identity politics" instead of her qualifications."

As usual, conservatives try to build a strawman out of anyone pointing out their prejudice. "So what I said the n-word? I tip the black delivery guy well!" A lack of prejudice elsewhere does not prove what you said was not prejudiced.

In fact, that would be like arguing that "because I only murdered a guy once, all the times I didn't murder anybody prove it wasn't murder!"

No mention of the fact that the man was drunk driving, wielding a HATCHET and yelling racial slurs before crashing his truck near the protests? How many times do we need to call out your naked propagandizing? Who do you think you're fooling?

And yes, they do remain LARGELY PEACEFUL. I'm sorry you're a toddler incapable of comprehending proportions, but as many individual incidents as you can post for your propagandizing, the share of peaceful protesters will always vastly outnumber them. There are typically hundreds to thousands of people at these protests and you're cherry picking one or two who are debatably violent (often in self defense or "violent" toward a trashcan). Or you just lie outright and gaslight everyone by calling right wing terrorists shooting cops at the protests "BLM supporters". Remember that one? Funny, how you never responded to defend yourself on that one. You just ignored it and came right back here posting more propaganda like nothing happened. It's pathetic. You have ZERO credibility and you're not fooling anyone with these naked propagandist tactics.
