It would depend on who wins their elections. Like say there's at 269 ECV tie, which goes too the house but the votes aren't by every member. It goes by congressional district. The Republicans actually have more by a 26-23 margin. So if they keep that margin but the president rec'd can't be certified or it ends in a tie, they could in theory give it right back to Trump.

Exactly.  It's done by State block.  Each state gets one vote, and that vote is decided by the Reps from that states congressional districts.  So, for example, in CT, we have 5 dems as reps.  Assuming they all won re-election, all 5 would vote dem, and so CTs vote would be for the dem candidate.

In Florida, it's 14 Republicans and 13 Democrats right now (assuming my quick wikipedia count is correct...either way, it's close and a good example).  Assuming that stayed the same, Florida would vote for the Republican...whether they did or not in the electoral college.

So, like everything else, it's complicated. Wink
And we'd surely have legal challenges up the wazoo lol.

He's saying test the system.  But you do have some bullheaded people who will do just that.  How many states are doing mail in voting?  He'll probably offer covid vaccines at the polling place just to get the vote out.  hihi

He's saying test the system by breaking the law.  No matter what the intent is, knowingly voting twice is voter fraud, and a felony.

And I would offer that him telling people to do so is conspiracy to commit voter fraud, and is a felony itself.

Even election officials in North Carolina are saying don't do this. This is a crime don't do this.

How can anyone who has objectively listen to the way Trump talks about everyone and anyone the last few years seriously think that these reports about him being so disgustingly ugly in regards to fallen soldiers etc are not absolutely true or that he is not at least capable of saying this crap?
He is and I'd bet a lot of $ that the reports are true

Just me - I'm sure others will think this is just election year nonsense - but c'mon man - you can't be this much of an ahole and not have it eventually come back to bite you.

In his crazy ass narcissistic brain - he probably feels the only dead soldiers that have honor are those that took part in missions that HE himself was personally involved in ordering.

I mean, we don't have to debate whether the report is true to know whether Trump gives a shit about veterans. He literally wrote a bad check to a veterans group so he could get the photo op and then when they went to cash it, it bounced. That says everything. Actions speak to your character more than words. It's funny how everyone latches onto this story because derogatory words are more attention grabbing. But his true character has already been shown many times.

A character assassination of Trump isn't going to work.  We know he's a dick.   hihi  The economy was good before covid and people don't blame Trump for covid.  It would be nice if we got along with the rest of the world, there was health care for all, there weren't riots/murders in the big cities and we were taking care of the plant.  People are worried about the economy and the kids.  They're going with the guy who isn't over reacting to covid and says send their kids back to school.  I don't think anything is going to change at the top.  I'm looking more at the races for other elected offices to represent what I think.

Just how I see it.  I never thought Trump would get in office to begin with.

I thought Trump's numbers, while not ahead, have been rising and Biden's have been dropping.  Hillary's poll numbers had her ahead on election night.

It seems to be slipping again in the last few days. I guess the RNC bump he got isn't going to hold. I think the report from the Atlantic is the cause. It has really pissed off veterans.

Nope.  Pretty much the same numbers today as they were in June, nationally.

A couple of the battleground states have tightened slightly...but Wisc and Mich are basically the same as they were back in June, too.

That "bump" lasted all of 3 days.....right up until Biden did his speech condemning rioting, looting, and burning.

Meh.  The economy was OK.  We were seeing the same...actually slightly less...growth under Trump than we had seen during Obama's last term.  Unemployment numbers were ticking up and down.  Minority unemployment was ticking up.  We were not ever in a gangbusters economy under Trump.

It would be nice if we got along with the rest of the world, there was health care for all, there weren't riots/murders in the big cities and we were taking care of the plant.

It sure would...all things that have been largely ignored by this administration.

I think its hard to make the case that Biden is overreacting to Covid except to the Trump base (who is going to believe anything he says and vote for him anyway).  Biden is literally campaigning on sending the kids back to school...safely. He wants to fund technology and school infrastructure/building improvements to make that happen.  Trump just wants to whine, snap his fingers, and make it so.  Bars and schools are petri dishes.  They just are.  They can't be treated like other places....they need some additional "help" to make them safe.

Just how I see it.  I never thought Trump would get in office to begin with.

I thought it was a 60/40 against in 2016.

I think it's 50/50 this election.

To your point about down ballot elections: If the Dems somehow take control of the Senate (and I'm not sure how that happens without turn out that would get Biden elected too, but we'll see), Trump would basically become irrelevant if he were to be reelected.

Then you had the Atlantic article. Military members are PISSED. Even if it isn't true, he has enough of a history of this crap that it is plausible. He started to lose them when he abandoned the Kurds. I follow a journalist/activist on youtube. He is an ex military contractor. So he knows a lot of military. He's in Florida a very crucial state. All of the ones he knows who supported Trump dumped him when he abandoned the Kurds. That was unforgiveable to them and have said NOTHING can get them back. If Trump loses Florida he will not win the election full stop, because PA, MI or WI will put him under 270. He will have to steal some blue states with very few options.

He has a very narrow road to an electoral college win.  But we saw him thread that needle...and by the skin of his teeth...in 2016.

I won't count him out until the votes are counted, he loses, AND he vacates the White House in Jan 2021.  Til then.....it's just not over.

I think the Comey reopening and complacency lost the Dems the election in 2016.  I don't care what the polls say going into election day.....people gotta actually vote.

Absolutely don't count him out. His paths are fewer then that of Biden though for sure. It was partly that, but it was also in large part that people hated them both and refused to vote for either. Go and compare the 3rd party votes to 2012. Johnson got over 3%= 4 million votes in 2016. He got just over 1 million in 2012. Jill Stein in 2016 got over 1% = 1 million votes. in 2012 she only got 469k. Half of those go to Hillary in 2016 we don't have a dumpster fire now.

Some on the right will vote for Trump, not because he's such an amazing leader, but because of the fear of socialism. Yes, this is 2020.

The Cold War ended quite some time ago, and now the president is friendly with the president of the enemy from that era. Go figure.

Not that I trust that guy but all countries should be friendly with each other.  I know we are nowhere near being one plant, one people but that should be the goal.  We're all we've got and there's only one go around.  Why do we spend our time fighting and hating on one another?  "Ahes, ashes all fall down."

They are begging for people to work the polls.  Not that I want to go sit there all day long or wouldn't do it as volunteer work but they require you to declare a party affiliation.  I'm an independent voter.  I'm not going to lie to them.  My friend who is doing it got assigned as a supervisor her first day just because she was willing to do the extra work associated with it.
