When was the last time we heard the old Axl?

I think it was with Bruce Springsteen, the sudden live perfomance of "come together".
Or maybe the intriguing "sympathy for the devil".
Could it be the mellow "dead flowers" with the friendly Gilby Clarke?
Interesting enough there is the "back and forth again" whistle (alas) snippet and finally the the Axl Rose and Slash apart contribute with outpatience, the underground "anxious desease" in 1996.
Even back then I think Axl's voice changed hell a lot somewhere between 1994 and 1996, cause "anxious desease" looks closer to live-era or even CD. I won't say the messy "oh my god", Axl's voice there is hard even to grasp.
your thoughts, or another recording (live or studio) I might missing?

He sounds like the old Axl on Sebastian Bach's 'Angel Down'. Check out 'Back In the Saddle' and 'Love Is A Bitchslap'.
And...honestly, the Looney Tunes song, 'Rock The Rock'. Hey, I know. But he sounds good.

Your post compelled me to listen to those Bach tracks for the first time in ages. The vocals he laid down for Stuck Inside were awesome.

I thought he sounded awesome on 'Angel Down'. Like he never missed a beat.
