| The first release from Velvet Revolver, featuring Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, David Kushner of Suicidal Tendencies and former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, will be a combination EP/DVD culled from the band's recent surprise gig at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.
Although details are still being nailed down, the as-yet-untitled EP will most likely contain the majority of the six-song El Rey set, a studio version of an original song played that night and possibly another new, unheard studio track. The DVD will center around live footage taken from the gig. As first tipped here this week, both will be issued Oct. 13 on Immortal Records.
Velvet Revolver booked the June 19 gig just days beforehand and announced the free show only a day prior. The gig saw the band perform the Sex Pistols' "Bodies," GNR's "It's So Easy," STP's "Sex-Type Thing," Nirvana's "Negative Creep" and a pair of originals, "Slither" and "Set Me Free," the latter of which was recently released on "The Hulk" soundtrack.
The act is currently recording the studio version of "Slither" for the EP with producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Kiss). It's part of a process in which the band is testing the waters with producers they are interested in working with, according to a spokesperson.
