Title: Heretodaygonetofiles + POST SONG RECORDINGS HERE
Post by: Skeba on November 16, 2002, 04:55:09 AM
Okay... So like I said at the other thread, I've made us all a Yahoo! account were we can put our own recordings of different songs (mainly GN'R - some exceptions may occur).

Plus I've made a section for Tabs. Please do not post the same tab twice. Check first. Plus as time goes along, we may discuss about what tabs are the most correct, put the best pieces together, and delete the inaccurate ones.
Here's the link:
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/heretodaygonetofiles/lst?.dir=/&.src=bc&.view=l (http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/heretodaygonetofiles/lst?.dir=/&.src=bc&.view=l)

The username:
heretodaygonetofiles

and the password:
gunsnroses

Important
Make your filenames named as follows: "songname (author)" so people will know who it's from.

Hope to see some of your works as soon as possible.

And the reason here is a thread like this, is that people can write their uploads over here, so we don't have to log on to Yahoo! to check if there's anything new...

I added the first 10 seconds of paradise city. The program I have only allows ten second mp3s. but its alright and I'm pretty sure it works

so thats that

I will get you Paradice City and Knocking on heavens door soon. I'm recording next week on sunday so i'll have the CD's some point in the next few months. Then I'll get them online so you can all marvel at my band!

I added 'Dont Cry' on (complete with solo), though i'm not sure it'll work.  It was badly recorded, which is why the quality sucks, and I didn't put any effects on the amp, which is why the playing sucks (honest).

Doesn't seem to be working for me though.  Did it have to be an mp3 file??

Title: Re:Heretodaygonetofiles upload announcements
Post by: Skeba on November 17, 2002, 06:54:53 PM
It works for me at least... I'll make it an MP3...

Okay.. Now I've fucked it up a bit.. The MP3 I mean.. I'll fix it tomorrow.. When I'm not this tired..

Well, since I didn't know about the Binge and grab site, I uploaded my take on the star wars tabulature.. The difference with this is that it's tuned half step down... And it is my first tab ever, so be kind.

I took a small part from your take Kenji, so it's not all mine...

I've uploaded a cool freeware to tune your guitar.

1) install the program
2) plug your guitar to your sound car
3) select wich tune you want
4) use the display to tune your guitar

OK, I added another one in the "other" folder.

It's a little guitar surprise for you fellas and it's dedicated to Buckethead.

When it comes to great film music, it doesn't have to be the "Godfather Theme" all the time, does it?  ;) Perhaps...a little bit of John Williams for ya?  ;D  Enjoy!

Nice job on the "Chinese Democracy" riff!  [ok]

I have uploaded Sweet Child O' Mine and Welcome To The Jungle.  They are both Midi drums and bass... and all guitars by me..  I did them both about two years ago (I know that's accurate because I was living and working somewhere else at the time).

They were both recorded before work on different mornings.  Each took about 2 hours to record and mix so I appolgise for the quality of the mixing. I did rush them but also, the solos etc are not as good as I could play them now, as it was so long ago.

Recorded in Cubase VST 5 with an Epiphone Les Paul Standard.  Amp was a Sessionette:75, with a Marshall Shredmaster pedal.  Yuk. Not exactly the nicest setup so tone isnt amazing. I will rerecord them soon with my new TSL amp and get some classic Slash sounds down!

Hope you like them.  Let me know.

PS.  Sweet Child O' Mine is played weeeeell too fast.  Thats becuase the PC I was using could only cope with a certain amount of length (considering I had quite a few tracks... the drums and bass were mixed down to audio and then EQ and reverbs etc applied)

Dave

Thanks,

well I did say they were two years old... I play them different now.  More confidence and my timing is much better.  I mean, back then I was starting a new band... after gigging and playing with them for all this time,  I am now the lead guitarist in a new band and we play hard rock.  I reckon I scrub up pretty well with my playing now.

I have uploaded Welcome To The Jungle, Knockin' On Hheaven's Door, November Rain, Paradise City and Sweet Child O' Mine.  They are all drum and bass guitar tracks with the exception of November Rain which has the strings thrown in for good measure.  Get a good set of Soundfonts to make these drums etc sound good.  Then bring the midi into cubase and split the drum tracks.  Merge each one to an audio track and EQ and mix it as it needs.  Working with a single track to encompass all the drum parts is a naff way of doing it and to get pro results yu will want to mess with tracks individually.

I didn't author these.  I altered them.  They may not all be dropped half a step tuning.  I can't remember.  Transpose the instruments in your midi program if you want them in E or in Eb depending on what you want.

Cheers

Dave

Hey guys,

I'm just after recording a rendition of the godfather theme...original, eh? lol

Anyways, ita a .wav file, but the problem is that it is quite a whopping 13MB.

Does anyone have any clue as to how I might compress it a bit so it can be uploaded easier?

Hey guys no worries I just changed it down from decent sound quality to pretty crap...it's still listenable to-able though!!!

Download it, let me know what you think....there are a couple of duff notes near the start, and the timing/rythym is maybe a little bit off in places, but anyhow. I just did one lead take, one rythym take, and mixed the two together, a bit of a rush job!

Have a listen, see what u think

@jrs2001_99:

I thought it was pretty good... Though I do think the theme itself got sorta lost there at one point (towards the end). But I've only played for a little less than a year, so I'm no one to critisize (is that even spelled that way?)...
But you wanted comments, so there you go.

Okay... I'ts been a while, but I thought I'd upload something.

So: I got the line6 PODxt for a few days, and I thought I could share what it can do. These files are totally unedited: straight from the unit to the computer, and transformed into MP3's. I haven't changed the settings of the pod since it's not mine. These are just some sounds I found in it.

And since it's me playing, the playing sucks (I've only played for 13 months), so you can keep your attention on the effects themselves, although feedback on the playing itself is appreciated.

The files are named line6[something].mp3, and can be found both in the GN'R and Others sections.

I will take them down in about a week so that there will be more space for other people..

It's been a long time since I (or anyone for that matter) uploaded anything, so here goes.
As some of you know, I bought myself a christmaspresent: The Line 6 PODxt.

So here goes. This is the Don't Cry solo. It sounds a bit funny because it's me playing
but other than that it should be fine. I kinda like the sound a lot.

Hey all,

i've decided to record some songs. well not really, there more like sketches of songs. :hihi: Guitar only. I've recorded them just by playing infront of my standard comp mic through "sound recorder" with a half sized Valencia classical guitar. Boy did the quality make it sound weird....anyway the idea is there. I've only been playing guitar for 6 months, so be gentle.

I put my first song up, all in 1st and only take, improvised the best possible solo i could do with the guitar (only having 12 reachable frets is a bitch, and not all frets even sound properly).

Anyway i got bored, so i think i might do a whole series of these, im really makin myself look bad with these crappy crappy recordings......but ah well i've made my excuses.

the file is rough sketch series (1) [Oddy], tell me what u think

I downloaded the Patience also. It's a lot better than either of the others, but Axl's voice is too loud in this one, so I'm hearing him most of the time. Still don't think it's all that good. Sorry.

Title: Re: Patience/You Could Be Mine
Post by: Dont Try Me on September 05, 2004, 04:08:35 AM
I listened to them and here's how I view them.

You Could be Mine:

1. Why so much vibrato in your voice, It sounds like a bad combination of Iron Maiden and Axl. It doesn't suit this part at all.
2. It's totally out of pace
3. Just try to do it at normal speed. It sounds like you are despiratly trying to get out"Axl's voice". But the harder you try the more UN-natural it sounds and the worser it gets. It seems like you are trying way too much and that causes the sloppy outbring of the lyrics as well.
4. I want you to re-record this. I think you could do ALLOT better if you take some advice from the above points.

Patience:

1. The whistle is way off-key and sounds very fragile.
3. I can't hear your voice.
4. I don't know.

Overall:

- Try listen to the originals better before you try to record it or sing it. Take your time to listen to "how" axl does the whistle for instance and practise bit by bit.
- You don't have to come close to Axl's sound coz you either have that or not. Just do it in your own voice if it doesn't seem to work.
- Now when I hear your version of You Could Be Mine I hear maybe, just maybe some potentional. Re-record it and do it right. You can do it way better then what I've heard I'm sure.
- I may sound like an ass but I'm only trying to help you

Title: Re: Patience/You Could Be Mine
Post by: IndiannaRose on September 05, 2004, 02:57:11 PM
Well the real reason it's out of pace is because I used Windows Sound Recorder. If you don't know what this is, it's one of those free softwares that makes you press the 'record' button every minute or it will stop recording. I don't know the lyrics to the rapping part of You Could Be Mine very well so while I was singing, I had to look at the time, while looking at the lyrics, while having my hand on the 'record' buton....at the same time. I'm gonna look for better software to record myself where I don't have to do all this. I was just basically singing to my laptop, I'll get better stuff to do it in. Thanx for the honest and long review, that's what I wanted all along. I'll come back stronger and wiser, but hey I'm only 14 ( that doesn't matter though)...

Also about the whole 'Axl voice' thing. That's just one of the ways I can sing. Actually I got this from listening to Def Leppard. From ages 11-13 all I did was listen to Def Leppard, so I sung to Joe Elliot everyday. He also has a raspy voice. So I just took Joe's voice and intertwined it into my own. Trust me I'm not 'trying' to sing like Axl, I was already singing like that before I even listened to GN'R. It's my own, I'm not trying to copy Axl's deuce. That's just the way it is...

That's just the way it is...

ok, that's cool. rock on!!  : ok:

I'll come back stronger and wiser, but hey I'm only 14 ( that doesn't matter though)...

hahahha windows recorder, i do that with guitar too.

see i know a trick. record something for 60 seconds, anything it doesnt matter. no press ctrl + c, then ctrl +v and it will paste that 60 seconds again and again til you have like 6 minutes or however much you need. then just record over it

Why don't you get something like Goldwave so you really wouldn't have to worry about shit like that. It's not big and is a shareware program if I remember correctly

That is my voice, I sang like that even before I knew GN'R. That's just the way it is. (which happens to be kinda like Axl's)

Just in case you wanna work on that even more. Sounds very good already though.? :)

Hi all, it's been a while, so I thought I'd upload something again. I took my Godfather Theme out of the briefcase, and replaced it with my guitar take on the Terminator theme.

It's a rough recording, just a rhythm track and a lead track, with slight volume swells on parts of the lead track. I think it came out OK, despite one glaringly obvious wrong note (a sloppy slip of the finger), but it's all first-take stuff so what the hell.

Anyways, have a listen and see what you think. It's in the MP3/Other folder, filename term.mp3. It's just over 2.5 Megs I think.

Cheers  :)

It's indeed a very rough recording like you said, so I will only comment on the guitarplaying. I think some parts are 'decent'. But it doesn't sound 'glued'. Sometimes I wonder why there is so much fast stuff in it. Try a bit more 'harmonic' slow stuff in it the next time and reduce the speed. Speed only impresses when it's balanced with the slow and played right.

But since this is your first take it ain't that bad or anything. I would say take your time on it the next time to work it a little more out.  :)

Keep em coming!

Title: Re: Heretodaygonetofiles + POST SONG RECORDINGS HERE
Post by: jrs2001_99 on December 23, 2004, 08:34:47 AM
Thanks for listening man, I was thinking of re-recording it properly, and playing the full theme with arpeggiated chords before drowning the whole thing out with lead work. Hopefully I'll get time to do that soon!

It has been an issue that I'm concerned about with my playing - sometimes my phrasing just sounds quite disjointed and choppy, and sometimes it's ok. I just wish I had a bit more consistency (and time to work on it!)

Thanks again man  8)

People of the board, we have an Axl on the board, avec un accent francais. :)

I'm not sure if you were trying to sound like Axl on the last part or not, but you should do another take and just belt out those lyrics with more force.

1) No, I didn't try to "sound like Axl", I made my own version. I could have taken a raspy voice because I can, I can break my voice, but it would have sounded like Bruce Springsteen not like Axl Rose. So I decided not to break it, but rather to make it "clean". ;)
2) thank you :D

Your voice needs to be developed. For starts it's definetely not bad and you can hit the notes. Which is very important. Like 'The Dirt' said you must belt the lyrics out with more power. You must sing it like it comes from the bottom of your heart. Then I think you can come pretty far with it.  : ok:

ok I sent my demo to a professional singer, She is an opera singer, a lyrical professor, and she has just replied me, it's in french:

Bonjour,

Musicalement,

Sabine C
Professeur de chant

To sum-up: She says I've a good level for a starter, she says my singing is ok and that 50% of the work is already done, but? I need to work my technic now (I suppose it's the 50% other).? :P I hope my singing will be ok "soon" to be in a Rock band. I have to work again, but I'm in the good way? :peace:

Nice! How did you get THAT sound? What equipment did you use for that one? (guitar, pickups, amp?)

Guitar: Epiphone Les Paul with Alnico's I believe
Amps: Marshall G80R CD & a Marshall 1922 underneath it
+ A Dunlop wah pedal.

The recording I did is just with a simple pc mic so much of the quality of the sound gets lost while recording it. But it's good enough for me.

On this pic the two amps on the right on top of eachother and the epiphone on the right.

Thanks for listening dude!

Title: Re: Brend - My version of Voodoo Chile - Jimi Hendrix
Post by: Dont Try Me on January 11, 2005, 03:36:53 PM
@unsurper: thanks, I've bought it in a small guitarshop in the Netherlands but the shop doesn't excist anymore. I was really lucky getting that Epiphone slash signature one. They are pretty rare. That guitar does have some little flaws but that's due to me playing on it so much. The frets are a bit worn out and stuff. The duncun pickups work like a motherfucker still tho.  ;)

@Conny: thnx mate! The guitar on the right is actually my brothers. I borrowed it a little bit.  ;D
For the sound.... to me it doesn't really come close to the sound of Hendrix. But I don't listen all that much to Hendrix so I don't know for sure. The alnico's and the wah work great together so perhaps that's what made this sound pretty nice... Thanks for your comments!  : ok:

Yes, that's me on the guitar, the first parts are done with a volume pedal for the effects. I've been playing for probably four years now.  :)

Thanks, I really appreciate that!!

As for ASS-JAM there is actually a method behind that madness. It is just me and my buddy (usually trashed). People have been calling me TomASS forever, that's where the ass comes from. His initials are J.A.M.  Since all we do is funny shit for the most part, we thought the name fit   ;D .

The Polly cover is actually me and someone else and we hope to have some good stuff coming. We are working on an original now...

Wow that's amazing sound and out of an Epi as well.  I'm very, very impressed.  You're guitar playing is top notch as well!!  I've played acoustic for a number of years now and I'm trying to get into the electric game (it's the solos that have made me sell out, you see) and I just ordered an Epi LP Black Beauty but now I have to think of what amp to get.  I'm thinking a Marshall might be in order.

Cool you ordered such a cool guitar! Marshalls are definetely good amps. Vox is also a good brand. Just go test various amps out and pick the one with suits your style best.  : ok:

hey do you have high action or low action on your guitar....
im trying to set my guitar right> if its(strings) too low i cant bend and if its too high i cant sweep pick!   any measurements??(i have a les paul)

Title: Re: Heretodaygonetofiles + POST SONG RECORDINGS HERE
Post by: Dont Try Me on January 21, 2005, 12:47:24 PM
@Zoso: I've been playing just for 4 years now. Sometimes I practise 3 hours a day and sometimes I do nothing. But in the beginning I practised really really allot everyday. I'm kinda sloppy.
@Sl@sh: I have the action as low as possible. But that's personal taste. The playing goes easyer low. But don't set them too low coz that would cause fret buzz. Just try out different settings. Mine is 2 mm at 12th fret or something round that.

Just added a new demo snippet to my site, check it out:

www.conny-conrad.com/keephardlove.mp3

Hope you like it.? :)

yes, I dig it, the solo thingy on the end sounds good. Has a good vibe. Nice drumloop as well. My only thing is with the vocals. I can't make-out if it's just humming or that those are lyrics? I would suggest making them allot more clearer and more to the surface. Other then that good stuff!  :)

Title: A little guitar riff I've created in 2 minutes....
Post by: nesquick on January 31, 2005, 09:15:48 PM
- ok I created it within 2 minutes just with my ears.
- I don't play guitar, I'm not a guitarist, I just made the riff on one chord on a friend's accoustic guitar. I've been playing guitar for about 20 minutes. I think I touched a guitar twice before in my life. that riff is just a joke! :)
- the sound quality isn't great,
- do you think it could be a good riff or intro to a song? imagine tht riff played with a Gibson with? a killer sound ala "whole lotta love", is it good?
- if you think it sounds good, tell me. if you think it sucks tell me! don't be afraid I'm not a guitarist. That's just a joke guitar riff.

I know.. But you asked me to give an opinion and that's what I did.. I knew what you just said in your post from your original post. It wouldn't be fair from me to say that it rocked if I didn't think so my self. It does sound that you created it in 2 minutes with just your ears (next time try to utilize your hands too.. :) ) and that you're not a guitar player... No need to feel bad about it... Just my opinion.. Not really worth shit.

Yeah backstabbers I wrote. It's just a little idea for now. The other songs with exception of 7even are covers. I play the lead guitar.

Yeah their workin now thanks : ok:

I like? 7even, not as much as Backstabber but its still great, it starts out kinda like Estranged or the end of Locomotive but then the guitar starts getting faster, the faster the better ;).
Im sorry but I didn't like riviera paradise at all, not because of the song but more because or the genre, I don't like Jazz it's too slow for me.
Voodoo Chile is good aswell, the guitarwork is great, the bassline reminds me of Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Cant quit you is good but the bassline is to slow for my liking
But the important thing is that Backstabber and 7even are great : ok:

For the chorus, I've got several voice tracks going, with different eq settings.  The distorted stuff is using Ampltitude (comes with an M-Box), and the preaching stuff is just something I recorded off tv one sunday morning when I was hungover.   : ok:

I'm gonna have a new version of Shadows in the Night (renamed to Shadows) ready soon, I'll send you that in a PM.

Post by: Dont Try Me on May 15, 2005, 12:28:13 PM
thanks :)

I've listened to your Don't Cry version btw HK-47. I think it's pretty cool. I like it cause you made the song your own. The delay effects are nice sounding and goes well with the whole thing. The vocals are pretty good as well, much different but I like it. Kinda reminds me of Nick Cave. From what I can hear on the guitar solo is that sometimes the bending doesn't sound 100% right. But that's not a big thing on this one. This is one of the most interesting covers I've heard on this board.

Did you do all the instruments yourself?

Title: Re: Heretodaygonetofiles + POST SONG RECORDINGS HERE
Post by: HK-47 on May 15, 2005, 08:31:03 PM

Did you do all the instruments yourself?

Nope, the drum track is electronic but the bass/guitars/etc are me.
And yep, some of the bends are a-ways off,  I'm pretty lazy about tuning generally.
I'm glad you liked it though, and thanks for the feedback.  ;D

The reason it doesn't work could be that someone has logged in, and changed the password...

It didn't recognize the old password, or allow me to retrieve the password for the account.

If it doesn't work we can always make a new account, or just use one of the filesharing services available.. Yousendit.com and such.

I've been pretty busy, so I haven't been checking up on this thread for quite some time now.

The HERETODAYGONETOFILES thread will now be locked since somebody (prolly no one from this board) has changed the password and the details so that it's no longer accessible.

From now on, there will not be a common room to put your recordings to, but everyone will figure out a way to post their songs in some other way (through yousendit or something).

A wish of how to post these songs has been stickied to the top of the section.
